Ali Mazrui - lecturer at Bin Laden funded ICPI in South Africa -should be disinvited to speak at Rochester Institute of Technology

January 3, 2005

MIM: It is a travesty of the war on terror that calls for halting of the lecture of Dr. Daniel Pipes, the distinquished Middle East expert , and board member of the United States Institute of Peace, are being heard while no one is demanding that the RIT administration scrutinize the scheduled lecturer Ali Mazrui's associations with Ahmed Deedat and the Bin Laden funded ICPI, as well as his leading roles in other radical Islamist organisations and withdraw his invitation to speak.

Ali Mazrui is a radical Islamist who lectured last year at the Bin Laden funded ICPI - International Center for the Propagation of Islam, whose founder and director , Ahmed Deedat is directly funded by the Bin Laden family and has boasted about meeting Bin Laden personally several times. Mazrui is also on the board of the Association of Muslim Social Services, the sister organisation of the IIIT - The International Institute of Islamic Thought, which is a Wahabist Saudi funded Islamic propagation front which was raided by the FBI and the JTTF in 2003.. The executive secretary of the AMSS is Kamran Bokhari ,the North American spokesman for the Al Qaeda offshoot group, Al Muhajiroun, which Dr. Pipes cites as "one of the most extremist groups operating in the west today" For more information on the AMSS and the CSID http://www.militantislammonitor.org/article/id/214

A left wing paper written by students who are opposing Dr. Pipes right to free speech have even started a media campaign of hysterical disinformation which states that students at RIT will be forced to listen to Dr. Pipes lecture or not be able to graduate (!).

Left Hook, Canada - Dec 27, 2004
... of Technology (RIT) in New York State where in order to graduate, seniors will be forced to listen to a lecture by Daniel Pipes,... http://www.lefthook.org/Interviews/AlamCANreps122704.html

MIM: Update 1/5/04 The Left Hook paper has distorted the situation using a quote by Monique Dols, the Mid Atlantic CAN (Campus Anti War Network) representative, by failing to note the fact that some RIT senior students are required to attend the lecture series as part of their required coursework and have the same obligation to attend the lecture of Dr.Pipes as that of Ali Mazrui. One of the interviewees was the CAN representative on the RIT campus Josh Karpoff, who did nothing to rectify Dol's false claim about the lecture series.

The communications director of RIT has clarified the situation and informed MIM that The Gannet lecture series which is inviting Dr. Pipes and Ali Mazrui are part of at the curriculum of a senior course. The attendence requirement pertains to all of the lectures in the series , although any students who are not able to attend will be accomodated according to circumstances.

MIM:While Dr. Grebinger's and the RIT Provost Simone are on the defensive justifying their invitation to Dr.Pipes the real focus of condemnation should be their invitation of Ali Mazrui. who is probably regarded by the 'Left Hook' crowd as a paradigm of academic freedom and integrity.

Mazrui's statements regarding ex USF professor and Florida jailbird Sami Al Arian are indicative of his committment to aintellectual honesty. The voluminous indictment against Sami Al Arian which included the names of nearly 100 murder victims of terrorist attacks, including that of Brandeis University student Alisa Flatow, financed by him and his group Palestinian Islamic Jihad, was dismissed by Mazrui who lamented that: http://news.tbo.com/news/MGAC3EONFCD.html

"...al-Arian was just a "victim of prejudice and of popular ill will..."http://www.campus-watch.org/article/id/556

MIM: Indeed RIT's hosting of Ali Mazrui under the guise of giving the lecture series' balance' is similiar to the disingenuous excuses given by the administration of Duke University, who defended their hosting of an Islamist conference under the guise of giving a forum to 'other views'. The conference ended up being not only a terrorist recruiting event , but the Duke administrations defense of the groups involved emboldened them to unleash a wave of anti semitism and conflict which is still engulfing the campus. The situation at Duke was summed up in this opinion piece in today's Wall Street Journal article entitled: "The Intifada Comes to Duke :

"...Moreover, and whether or not a university has a duty to license the unfettered expression on its campus of every venomous notion under the sun, the real issue at Duke was always the refusal of the licensing authorities to call such notions by their proper names--in this case, bald anti-Semitism and incitement to the murder of innocents. That refusal on the part of the university and its president, a mark not of "constructive" liberality but of cowardice and complicity, is what led infallibly to the postconference outbreak of anti-Jewish hatred. Once the guardians of the citadel granted permission to open the gates, is it any surprise that the marauding hordes came storming through?..." http://www.opinionjournal.com/extra/?id=110006102

MIM: It appears that the RIT administration is turning a blind eye to Mazrui's documented anti semitism and the fact that he lectured twice at an institute whose director is a personal friend of and is funded by Osama Bin Laden . On his own campus of Binghamton University, Mazrui turned a political science class into a vicious anti semitic and Israel bashing diatribe.

Mazrui 's Jew baiting is not surprising for someone who has no qualms about working for enterprises funded by Osama bin Laden. Just as the Americans are to blame for anti Americanism , Mazrui blames the Jews for anti semitism . Obviously Mazrui is not well versed in history, since one need only go back to 1948 before the existence of Israel (when the real geographical entity of Palestine existed) to see that anti semitism has existed from the time the Jews emerged as a nation centuries ago .But Mazrui's revisionist pseudo scholarship cannot take details like historical fact into account, as the title of this essay makes clear:

"The State of Israel as the Cause of Antisemitism" http://www.swahilionline.com/features/articles/mazrui/mazrui11.htm

MIM: In 2002 Mazrui turned an invitation to speak in the poliitcal science department of his university to deliver an anti semitic diabtribe It is worth noting that Mazrui, who shows such cynical concern for Jewish security by explaining that Israel should dissappear to save Jews from anti semitism, then turns around and refers to Israel as a facist state and compares it's prime minister to Hitler (!) http://www.meforum.org/article/pipes/424

SUNY-Binghamton: Robert Ostergard of the political-science department converted his course into an anti-Zionist platform. One guest speaker, Ali Mazrui, presented a lecture that a student called "a 45-minute diatribe against Israel" equating Zionism with fascism, Israel with apartheid South Africa and Prime Minister Ariel Sharon with Hitler.

MIM: In an Islamonline Q&A Mazrui disingenuously implied that American Muslims were being kept out of the political process by 'pro Israeli anti-Muslim New Yorkers' http://www.militantislammonitor.org/article/id/365

"...In the case of Hillary Clinton for example she was under pressure from pro-Israeli anti-muslim New Yorkers. It was vital that American Muslims should not let those forces prevail and should keep on trying to enter the system..."

Dr. Pipes has commented on the upcoming event and the controversy surrounding his lecture in a recent weblog:

My Unwillingness to Be "Balanced" at Campus Talks Although still over three months off, my talk on April 14, 2005 in the "Globalization, Human Rights, and Citizenship" series at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York, is already generating more heat than light.

In particular, I note the topic of balance, raised in a letter to the president of RIT:

he is to be the only speaker this year on the current schedule that will not have a counterpoising view on stage with him to provide balance and perspective. How can the Gannett Lecture Series purport to be promoting the academic principles of debate and discussion when it allows his ideas to go without criticism by his peers? … Also if the Lecture Series is going to select someone with as far right extreme views as his to have a forum, then I think the far left should be given equal opportunity.

This issue arises from time to time, and most notably at my talk at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in April 2003, when a minor tempest brewed up over my unwillingness to be "balanced" by someone with an opposing point view.

Here is why I reject that proposal: My major purpose in going to universities like UW-Madison and RIT is to offer a different point of view from what students usually hear (at RIT, for example, the talk before mine is by Ali A. Mazrui). I dislike the idea of balance because (1) it cuts into my time and (2) it implies that my views need to be wrapped and controlled. Or, as Rush Limbaugh puts it, "I don't need equal time, I am equal time!"

Instead of "balance," I offer a lengthy question and answer period. I typically speak for 20-25 minutes and then entertain questions for about an hour. I find that this procedure most interests the audience (and myself) while making best use of our time together through interaction, not potted statements.

Paul Grebinger, organizer of the RIT series in which I will speak about "Militant Islam and the War on Terror," made this point in his own way in replying on behalf of the RIT president:

It is often valuable to hear from individuals whose ideas we may oppose and whom we may not even like. I expect that Pipes will draw representatives from the Islamic community here on campus and from Rochester. They will no doubt be asking very pointed questions. So, I don't expect any lack of debate.

I don't either. (December 31, 2004) Permalink

MIM: This is the response from President Simone of Rochester Institute of Technology to the false accusations being made against Dr.Pipes and attempt to prevent the right of free speech on campus . It was posted on the RIT website : https://my.rit.edu/portal/askthepresident/question.cfm?id=225

Q: I have heard that Daniel Pipes was invited to speak as part of the Gannet Lecture Series, is this true? Daniel Pipes is an individual who makes broad stereotypical generalizations about people of the Muslim faith, such as "15% of Muslims are terrorists," as well as supporting the concept that the only road to middle east peace is "Total Israeli victory," with an Israeli state from the Nile to the Euphrates. This is a very far right extremist view, even further to the right then the Bush Administration or Sharon's government. On top of his views, which I feel to be racist, he is to be the only speaker this year on the current schedule that will not have a counterpoising view on stage with him to provide balance and perspective. How can the Gannet Lecture Series purport to be promoting the academic principles of debate and discussion when it allows his ideas to go without criticism by his peers? If Daniel Pipes does not want to appear with another speaker, then as I see it he doesn't have to come and get paid. Also if the Lecture Series is going to select someone with as far right extreme views as his to have a forum, then I think the far left should be given equal opportunity.
A: For this question, I turned to Professor Paul Grebinger, Gannett Lecturer and Coordinator of Senior Seminar.

Here is Professor Grebinger's response:

"Let me try to explain the context of
our invitation to Pipes. First, he is the second speaker in the spring term
series. The first is Ali A. Mazrui, Albert Schweitzer Professor in the
Humanities and Director, Institute of Global Cultural Studies at SUNY
Binghamton. We had hoped to have a debate between Mazrui and Pipes, who are on opposite ends of a spectrum on the question "has a clash of civiliations begun?: Islam and the West," the tile under which Mazrui is lecturing.

Mazrui agreed to a debate, while Pipes would not. Further, Mazrui agreed to have discussants following his talk while Pipes would not. Pipes is willing to answer questions from the audience, which I believe will generate fruitful discussion.

Two thirds of the lectures/discussions/panels in the Gannett Series this year were suggested by faculty teaching Senior Seminar.

It is often valuable to hear from individuals whose ideas we may oppose and whom we may not even like. I expect that Pipes will draw representatives from the Islamic community here on campus
and from Rochester. They will no doubt be asking very pointed questions. So,
I don't expect any lack of debate.

Finally, I feel that I should mention that the regular use of discussants and panels in the Gannett Series is an
innovation of the last two years. Previously, we typically brought a prominent individual, they lectured and the audience asked questions."

Paul Grebinger
Gannett Lecturer and
Coordinator of Senior Seminar

MIM : It is indeed remarkable that students are clamoring to silence Dr. Daniel Pipes but are silent about the decision to invite the radical Islamist Ali Mazrui to speak on the RIT campus . Before Mazrui is lectures at RIT the university officals who are hosting his lecture should check with law enforcement and hold Mazrui accountable for his ties to Ahmed Deedat- Bin Laden- Al Qaeda - the International Center for Islamic Propagation- which is housed in a building named 'The Bin Laden Centre' in Durban South Africa and inquire into his role as board member and purveyor of the Ibn Khaldun Chair at the Graduate School for Islamic and Social Sciences (GISSS) which was recently raided by the FBI in connection with terrorist funding for Al Qaeda.

CSID chairman/director and AMSS board member Ali Mazrui meets Achmed Deedat's cronies at the ICPI in the Bin Laden Centre in Durban. Deedat has been in ill for years and receives visitors at home.(see article excerpt below).

SA activist's Bin Laden ties

War on America

Buddy Naidu

A SA Islamic activist has forged strong ties with the Bin Laden family, receiving substantial funding from them and, in the process, meeting Osama bin Laden, the man named as prime suspect in this week's terror attacks.

Yousuf Deedat, 45, who triggered a storm when he distributed thousands of anti-Semitic handbills featuring a picture of Adolf Hitler during the World Conference Against Racism in Durban last week, said he first met Bin Laden in 1989.

Deedat and his father, Muslim scholar Ahmed Deedat, met Bin Laden on several other occasions in Saudi Arabia that year and in the 1990s while they were drumming up support for the Islamic Propagation Centre International in Durban.

"He was quiet-spoken, respectful and humble. When he met my father, he did not look him in the eye. That is the greatest honour an Arab can bestow on an elder," said Deedat.

The Deedats have had close links with the Bin Laden family since first meeting Osama's elder brother, Sheikh Bakr bin Laden, in 1986. Since then, many of the 27 Bin Laden brothers have contributed generously to the centre. Sheikh Bakr alone gave the centre $3.1-million over eight years to buy a building, print the Koran in English and Zulu, and print and distribute Islamic literature.

In appreciation, the Deedats named their building in Durban's Victoria Street after the family in 1988.

During his tenure as secretary-general of the propagation centre, the Bin Ladens reportedly paid Yousuf Deedat a monthly salary of R900 000.

Deedat said Bin Laden had invited him on a number of occasions to attend his lectures in Saudi Arabia. "He moved me to tears. He was a man of few words, but when he spoke in public, he had this magnetic effect on all who listened to him." Whether he was guilty or not, Deedat said, the US would always use him as a scapegoat".

The Bin Laden Centre became the Ahmed Deedat Centre after 9/11

MIM: Excerpts from the article 'Greetings from Shaikh Ahmad Deedat" which quotes Deedat describing his affection for Osama Bin Laden, and close financial and fraternal ties with the Bin Laden family.

Then came September 11, 2001. The western world had long known that the building housing the offices of the IPCI on Grey Street, Durban, used to be called Bin Laden Centre (although for many years now it has been called Shaikh Ahmad Deedat Centre). In the aftermath of September 11, 2001, everyone seemed to remember that old name of the centre. A plethora of broadcast and print journalists from all over the world descended on Shaikh Deedat's Durban home, wanting to know the Shaikh's relationship with the Bin Laden family and, ostensibly, with Osama. (It was speculated on the South African media that Yusuf, the Shaikh's son, was a personal friend of Osama's.)

And so it was that I was visiting Shaikh Deedat when a French television network arrived early October, 2001. The first question was: did Shaikh Deedat know the Bin Laden family? "Yes", said the Shaikh in answer to the French television interviewer's question. "I did know the Bin Laden family quite closely. In fact, the most senior Bin Laden, Shaikh Muhammad, had contributed the largest chunk of money during the building of the IPCI. Therefore, when the building was completed, we felt that we should name it Bin Laden Centre after the family, and we did. Many years later, I met Shaikh Muhammad bin Laden and told him what we did. The senior Bin Laden humbly declined the honour, saying were that the family donated one hundred percent of the building's expenses, they would have accepted. So we reluctantly had to remove the family's name".

"But has Shaikh Deedat personally ever met Osama bin Laden?" At this question, the Shaikh's eyes shone and he smiled before he answered, using his eyes, interpreted by Yusuf. "Yes", Shaikh Deedat said, "I did meet Osama, a rather shy, respectful young man. One day when I was visiting Shaikh Muhammad bin Laden, his brother Osama was sitting not too far away. He showed interest in what we were discussing, but did not utter a word, since his comments were not sought. Such decorum, such respect to elders. It was after our conversation that the senior Bin Laden called Osama closer and introduced him to me as his brother just back from Afghan jihad. That was the first and last time I met Osama".

When that interview was broadcast, Yusuf Deedat and his father became hot media stuff in Europe, North America and locally in South Africa. Tour guides made brisk business shepherding visiting journalists to the Shaikh's home, which became a major tourist attraction of Durban. During my few visits, I met various types of visitors: Muslims, Christians, Jews, Europeans, Asians, Africans. Shaikh Deedat's memory was still very sharp, as he could remember that many Nigerians, including Kabiru Yusuf of Trust who was in Durban for the 1999 Commonwealth Summit, and another brother who had also published a similar story in a past Weekly Trust, had visited him not too long previously.

MIM: Yousef Deedat's Hitler handbills ask : "What if I had won?"

Buddy Naidu

A South African who claims to have close links to international terrorist Osama Bin Laden has admitted responsibility for printing anti-Semitic handbills - featuring a picture of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler - which caused a storm at the World Conference Against Racism in Durban this week.

Yousuf Deedat, the son of fiery Muslim scholar Ahmed Deedat, said he distributed the handbills to encourage debate on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The handbill, which infuriated Jewish delegates, features a picture of Hitler and poses the question: "What if I had won?"

The answer below reads: "There would be no Israel and no Palestinian's blood shed. The rest is your guess."

The wealthy Deedat family admitted being "good friends" with billionaire Bin Laden after the bombings of US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania three years ago.

Ahmed Deedat admitted that the Bin Laden family had contributed "generously" to the coffers of his organisation, the Islamic Propagation Centre (IPCI).

A report at the time said that Yousuf Deedat, 45, in his capacity as secretary-general of the IPCI, was paid a monthly salary of R900 000 by the Saudi family to propagate Islam in South Africa.

Over the years, about $3-million (R25-million) has been channelled into the centre's bank accounts by the Bin Laden family.

Bin Laden is the FBI's most-wanted terrorist with a $5-million (R42-million) price on his head.

The US State Department called the wealthy terrorist "one of the most significant sponsors of Islamic extremist activities in the world today".

He has also been linked to the 1993 World Trade Centre blast and the bombing of a US naval ship in Yemen last year. He is believed to be living in Afghanistan where he enjoys the protection of the Taliban regime.

Yousuf Deedat is unrepentant about the handbills . "I encourage open debate. That is the beauty of democracy ," he said.

Referring to this week's walkout by the US and Israel, he said people should not be "dogmatic and walk away from discussion like cowards".

"With regard to the picture of Hitler, whether it makes sense or not, I want people to think, thus stimulating the mind to debate issues ."

He said he did not hate Jews but rather the "injustices done to others, like my brothers and sisters in Palestine".

Deedat, who spends hundreds of thousands of rands a month promoting his father's books, said the Bin Ladens had sponsored his family over the years.

He admitted being paid a salary by the Bin Laden family but refused to confirm whether he had received close to R1-million a month from them during his tenure at the IPCI.

Yehuda Kay, of the SA Jewish Board of Deputies, lambasted Deedat's "concerted campaign" against the Jewish people.

"It is the most vile, disgusting and racist material that has been seen since the Nazi propaganda period. It just stirs up racial and religious tension," said Kay.

Israeli Peleg Reshef, the chairman of the Union of Jewish Students, said the attack epitomised what the Israeli delegation had seen and been subjected to during their stay in the country.

American Stacy Burdett, of the Anti-Defamation League, a Jewish lobby group, said the handbill implied that the only way to maintain Palestinian rights would be to exterminate Jewish people.

"The conflict in Israel is over land, not the extermination of one group over another," she said.

Besides offering the favorite books of Ahmed Deedat on the ICPI website such as "Suicide Bomber or Martyr?" the ICPI offers a selection of Sheik Ahmed Deedat writings including : Crucifixion or CRUCIFICTION? Was Christ Crucified ? and a video tape of a "wonderful seminar" with Ahmed Deedat and Paul Findley , director of the CNI (Council for the National Interest Director) . The tape is entitled "Is Israel Set Up for Destruction?" http://www.ahmed-deedat.co.za/homepage.asp

MIM: The ICPI publishes a monthly "score card" of how many people they converted to Islam, which begs the question if Osama and the Bin Laden family give them a commission...Note that the conversions are referred to as 'reversions' since, according to Islam, every person and everything on earth including animals are Muslim, and it is the obligation of every Muslim to see to it that the world is turned back to it's original 'Islamic' state both physically and geographically.

MIM: While Muslims complain about discrimination it is interesting to note that the ethnicity and racial background of all of the reverts is listed below since the 'reversion' to Islam by certain races and nationalities is considered more of a 'prize' then the conversion of others.

A total of 9 people accepted Islam in August 2004.
5 coloureds, 1 white American, 1 Ugandan & 3 local Africans.

MIM:This notice listing Sheik Jaffar Idrees as Dean of the OU in the USA neglects to mention that Wahabist lackey Idris was deported from this country on terrorism related charges last year. It is interesting to note that an American'revert' to Islam has now become a Saudi tv personality who is involved in Da'wa -Islamic Propagation- and teaches english in Riyadh. Another example of the Islamist ideal of multi kulti...

Center for Balanced Development

Vienna, 6 November 1999/P/K/16656c-is

The President of the International Progress Organization, Professor Hans Koechler (Austria), has been appointed as member of the International Advisory Board of the newly-established Center for Balanced Development (CBD).

The Center is dedicated to helping emerging communities by studying the goals and consequences of developmental strategies, providing educational support, and advocating balanced development that combines economic growth with civic empowerment and political maturation.

The Center intends to generate cross-cultural dialogue among intellectuals of different cultural and religious backgrounds to bring about understanding and reform. One of the major research projects of the Center for Balanced Development is entitled "Global Governance: Who Speaks for the South?" This study is focused on the structure, the decision-making processes and the major actors in international organizations such as the UN, WTO, IMF, World Bank. The study attempts to find out the extent to which the interests of the peoples of developing countries are represented in the plans, policies, and programs of international organizations.

Other research projects deal with "Unequal Development: Sources, Remedies, and Consequences," and "Islam and the West: Civilizational Clash or Cultural Dialogue?"

The Center for Balanced Development is located at Sterling, Virginia (United States of America). Among the members of the International Advisory Board are Prof. Ali Mazrui, Director of the Institute of Global Cultural Studies at the State University of New York, Professor John Esposito of Harvard University, and Mr. Mustafa Ceric, President of the Islamic Council of Bosnia (Sarajevo).

Ten Reasons why Israeli Jews are Kosher Targets

www. FreeArabVoice.org

1. They are occupying by force land which doesn't belong to them

2. They have ethnically cleansed the Palestinians from that

3. After more than fifty years, they still refuse to let the Palestinians
return to their land and property

4. They are objectively part of an imperialist colonial base in the
heart of the Arab World

5. They continue to kill and oppress the Palestinians daily

6. They must understand somehow that Palestinian blood is not cheap

7. They have been using the so-called peace process to
consolidate their gains on the ground. 95 more colonies were built
since the Oslo Agreement in 1993, not to mention bypass roads, in
the West Bank and Gaza

8. They can lend the Palestinians some Cobras and F-16's if they
don't like human bombs and rocks

9. They have managed to convince the U.S. government and
media that killing "Isreali" Jews is terrorism whereas the
point-blank killings of Palestinian children and the assassinations of
Palestinian freedom fighters are just 'mutual violence' and
'conflicting heritage claims'. Reality Check!

10. They can always choose to LEAVE if they don't like the few
methods left to the Palestinians to liberate their land

Note: This is not some 'extremist' position. Palestinian and Arab
opinion polls, on Al Jazeera.net for example, indicated in the past
that support for the human bombs tactic runs upwards of ninety
percent on the Arab street. Indeed, such human bombs are not
only justified. Much more of them is needed.

MIM: In 2003 it was reported that Ali Mazrui was asked to explain his thoughts on Jihad to US officials when returning from a trip abroad . http://www.campus-watch.org/article/id/783

Last month, two well-known Muslim scholars who live in the United States were questioned for several hours at U.S. airports after traveling abroad. Ali A. Mazrui, 70, a professor at the State University of New York at Binghamton, said he was detained for more than seven hours at Miami International Airport and asked to explain his ideas on jihad.

MIM: Masri wrote an account of his experience ironically entitled "Are All Muslims Terrorists" and admitted he had tried to visit a known radical Islamist on the grounds that it was for educational purposes (!) He also said he was a member of "the old Muslim American Council" which begs the question if that means before or after the arrest on terrorism charges of AMC leader Alamoudi- or after he was sentenced to 23 years in prison on terrorism related charges... http://www.omanforum.com/threads/showflat.php?Cat=1&Board=politics&Number=142693

"..I was interrogated by (a) immigration; (b) customs; and
(c)Homeland Security and the Joint Terrorism Task Force in that order.
They all focused on security. Paradoxically, the last interrogators were the most apologetic and the most courteous. But they still questioned me behind closed doors. Of course, I was truthful about all the Muslim organizations I belonged to, including the Muslim American Congress, the old American Muslim Council and the Center for the Study of Islam and Democracy [CSID).

"...Since I was coming from Trinidad and Tobago, had I seen
Yaseen Abubakar, the Islamic militant who had held the whole cabinet of
Trinidad hostage in the Parliament building nearly fifteen years earlier? That was a much more sophisticated question.

I replied at Miami Airport that I had not met Abubakar,
but I had tried to see him in Trinidad. After all, I was teaching a course at Cornell on "Islam in the Black Experience". I had also taught "Islam in World Affairs" at Binghamton. It was my business to study the Abubakars of this world!..."

MIM: For anyone concerned about Homeland Security threats it should be reassuring to note that Ali Mazrui's son Jamal "works for the FCC under the chair of Michael Powell the son of the Secretary of State Michael Powell."

MIM: Powell might also be interested to know that Mazrui thinks that America is a 'sadistic' country which is to blame for the anti Americanism directed against it because of their "readiness to hurt others abroad".

"There is also suspicion that some members of the Bush administration in collusion with Israel are more than ready to plunge the Middle East into turmoil in the hope that the final outcome would be to the territorial advantage of Israel and the strategic advantage of the United States. All this is part of the emerging external sadism of the United States, a readiness to hurt others abroad."

MIM: In 2003 Mazrui delivered this whimisically titled lecture at the Islamic Society of Central Florida

African American Muslims - from Enslavement to Counter Terrorism"
February 9, 2003
The Islamic Society of Central Florida, Orlando, FL
Guest Speaker: Professor Ali Mazrui, Schweitzer Chair at Binghamton University, NY. Sponsored by the Islamic Society of Central Florida, UCF's Global Perspectives Office and Global Connections for Central Florida.

MIM: A letter from Louay Safi the president of the AMSS bashing neo conservatives and 'pro Israel evangelists' for being anti Islam and reveals that the true purpose of the AMSS is the same as Ahmed Deedat's Bin Laden funded International Center for the Propagation of Islam. In this case the AMSS is funded by the Wahabis. The logo and slogan of the AMSS reveals the Islamist agenda of their organisaton in both arabic and english : "Thee Do We Worship: "Thine Aid Do We Seek" http://www.amss.net/Home.asp

Louay Safi's invitation letter to AMSS conference delegates.

You are well aware that a tight network of neo-conservatives have embarked on a crusade to defame Islam and American Muslims, and to equate them both with terrorism. The Association of Muslim Social Scientists (AMSS) recognizes the danger posed by Islam-bashers and the need to better inform our fellow Americans about Islamic values and the profound passion Muslim Americans have toward the noble principles that lie at the foundation of the United States.

I am inviting you as a scholar of Islam and the Middle East to participate in a project entitled Examining Islam. Please find attached a copy of the proposal outlining this project. Please feel free to comment on all aspects of the proposal and return your comments to me at your earliest convenience, but no later than March 28, 2003.

Please indicate the topics to which you can best contribute. If none of the listed topics are of interest to you, or if you feel that are more important issues to address, please add them to the list. I know that my request will add a new commitment to your already busy schedule, but you are among the very few who can help enlighten the American public through a scholarly and systematic discourse.

Upon receiving your feedback and that of other scholars, a committee will be established to follow-up on the editorial development of this project and to oversee its implementation.

I would like to thank you in advance for your time and cooperation, and look forward to hearing from you soon.

Louay Safi, President

The recent tide of anti-Islam rhetoric is a source of concern to all Muslims and people of good will. It is particularly of great concern for American Muslims, as it is clearly a prelude to violence against Arab and Muslim American communities.

The campaign to discredit and defame Islam takes advantage of the knowledge-gap between the narrow and one-dimensional presentation of Islam in western literature, and the multi-faceted and complex manifestations of Islamic worldview in modern society. Media coverage of Islam that focuses on violence, while leaving out half of the truth about Muslim realities, has added to the distortion. Most recently, pro-Israel evangelists have made unsparing attacks on Islam, thereby putting fear in the heart of people and adding more confusion to an already confused public.

In its efforts to educate the public and inform leaders of public opinion, AMSS plans to produce 10 small-to-medium monographs, addressing some of the misunderstandings about Islam and Muslims. The project, tentatively entitled "Examining Islam" aims at mobilizing Muslim scholars and scholars of Islam to counter the disinformation campaign, and to promote a true understanding of Islam.

The monographs to be produced as part of this project are not intended to advance theoretical issues, but rather address issues of practical significance written in a language accessible to the general public. Upon completion of the work, the monographs are to be published in large quantities, and distributed to political leaders, journalists, religious leaders, churches, and civic organizations.

MIM: Ali Mazrui is also involved with the "Minaret of Freedom Institute' Their logo leaves no doubt as to Islamist intentions for the US. The torch of the Statue of Liberty is visible here while the rest appears to have been engulfed by the mosque and Minaret. The message being that the 'light of Islam' will ultimately outshine that of the torch of liberty.

Dr. Taj Hargey, Prof. Ali Mazrui, and Dr. Imad-ad- Dean Ahmad were among the discussants making
plans for a new Islamic Uiversity in America at a

MFI President Imad- ad-Dean Ahmad addressed the conference on the need for Muslim goups to speak to the non-Muslim world with the same openness and candor with which they speak to one another.

MIM The delegation to the conference included Abdulrahman Alamoudi who was jailed for 23 years on terrorism charges which included receiving funds from Libya to get a hitman to assassinate King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia . Ahmed Yusef who ran the UASR -United Arab Studies Institute fled the United States knowing he would be arrested on terrorism related charges and the media described the UASR a terrorism HQ located just miles from the nation's capitol.

MIM :Imad Ad Dean Hamad has this to say at the conference , where he apologised for his ignorance of Arabic because he claimed his family 'fled' the Middle East in 1948.Here ad Dean Hamad shows that the aims of the conference at which he posed with known Hamas member and now fugitive Achmed Yusuf and recently convicted terrorist and political assassin reruiter Abdulrahman Alamoudi, was to spread anti Israel propanda to undermine support for Israel in the US by 'educating' the US public about the 'true nature of Zionism'.

"..I inform you that the support of Zionism which is the policy of the American government is not the result of a disposition toward Zionism by the American people but because of the their ignorance... "...Without American aid to Israel, Israeli intransigence would become impossible. The education of the American people is an invaluable element of the work before us. I came here in the hopes that this organization could play a role in that education. If this organization will abandon the duplicitous and heirarchical modes of operation that have plagued the Muslim world for hundreds of years and operate as the open and transparent agency of afraid of no one and nothing but Allah subhana wa ta'allah, then my hopes, including the liberation of Palestine, may yet come to pass. http://www.minaret.org/beirutconference.htm

    For more on Alamoudi see:

MIM: Ahmed wrote a diatribe against Dr .Pipes and Steven Emerson in which he, like Mazrui, dimissed the terrorism allegations against the now jailed organiser of the American branch of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. Sami Al Arian had also been a speaker at the MFI. in 2001 about civil rights(!)

Ahmad ended his 2001 letter to the Wall Street Journal cecrying the calls for the arrest of Al Arian l in what could not be seen as perverse comic irony

" You can't fool all of the people all of the time..."

Sami Al-Arian and Merve Kavakci spoke at our Fifth Annual Dinner on the Threat of Secular Fundamentalism to civil liberties in Turkeay and in the United Statesof America

"...What are thinking people of good will to make of their op-ed piece entitled "Rolling Back the Forces of Terror," published in The Wall Street Journal on August 13, 2001? The occasion of the bombing of a pizza parlor in Jerusalem that "pushed the total of Israeli deaths by Palestinian terrorists since September 1993 to more than 450" was launch pad for a call to "give Israel the green light to protect its citizens." Protect its citizens how? By accelerating the Israeli's provocative state terrorism against the Palestinians until it reaches the level of "final solution" proportions? The Israelis have already killed at least three times as many Palestinians as Palestinians have killed Israelis in the period cited. Will a ration of 10:1 satisfy Pipes' and Emerson's thirst or must it go to millions to one?

"... Their aim is also to persuade the American people to submit themselves to a frenzy of fear and hatred aimed at enabling the persecution of Muslims in America who engage in no terrorism whatsoever. Pipes and Emerson associate certain groups with other groups identified with the killing of civilians, although the FBI, which has investigated these groups, has never found grounds to charge any of them. With a carefully scripted McCarthyite strategy they end their list with a man whose only crime is to criticize and expose Israeli apartheid and terrorism, Dr. Sami Al-Arian..."

Pipes and Emerson call for a crackdown on Al-Arian, and by implication on all who dare to speak out against Israel's continuing ethnic cleansing policy. They want him fired from the University of South Florida. They ignore the fact that, prompted by earlier such smear campaigns, the University administration had already sponsored an investigation of Prof. Al-Arian's organization, WISE and concluded that it was a benign institution.

..". However, I think Abe Lincoln will be proven right in the end: "You can't fool all the people all the time."

    The Devil's Deception

    By Beila Rabinowitz

As Salamoalaikum Ittaqallah Ya Abu Khadaja !!!!!!!

"For Allah's sake stop attacking HizbutTahrir and Al-Muhajiroun and instead
attack these rulers in the muslim world that are responsible for the misery of
the ummmah and the world at large. These kufr regimes are the obstacles to
the rise of Islam as the dominant way of life in the world".

    The internet posting was signed,

    Yours -in- Islam Kamran Bokhari,

    Springfield Missouri, USA.

The subject of the message was "Devil's Deception"....

A few short years after this letter was published, Kamran Bokhari, head of the Al Muhajiroun in the United States, went on to become the secretary of board of directors of the AMSS , the Association of Muslim Social Scientists, part of the largest conglomerate of Islamist propagation institutions in the United States and the UK http://amssuk.com/frames-mainpage.htm

Bokhari's membership switch from Al Muhajioun to the Association of Muslim Social Scientists is merely a continuation of his previous affilitation under the guise of moderation .(see ) http://www.militantislammonitor.org/article/id/39

But his work as a geopolitical analyst for Stratfor Strategic Forecasting Inc. shows that a militant Islamist who proclaims to be reformed as a "post Islamist" can be seen as a valuable resource by Strategic Forecasting Incorporated..

Stratfor CEO George Friedman considesr Bokhari's personal involvement with a militant Islamist group to be valuable work experience. According to Stratfor VP Ron Moore ,

    "We (at Stratfor), knew of Bokhari's background and make sure he doesn't write anything which is extremist". Statfor's analysts work by region and do not get bylines on their work, and a recent item on their website headlined;

"Al Qaeda and Bin Laden Too Easy to Blame?", on the bombings in Istanbul , opined that; "the subsequent investigation suggests an emerging trend , to blame Al Qaeda for any and all such attacks".

This analysis bore an eerie similiarity to an article which Bokhari wrote as Al Muhajiroun's spokesman in 1999 while at SMSU entitled "Freedom Fighters Now Being Called Terrorists", in which he wrote that; "Bin Laden is no more than a suspect in the bombings of U.S. embassies in East Africa .But the media, dancing to the tune of Federal Agencies has already indicted him ".

On May 14, , in a press release describing themselves as the" nation's largest private intelligence service", Stratfor proudly announced that, "former State Department counter terrorism expert William "Fred" Burton had joined the firm as Vice President for Counter terrorism and Corporate Security." http://stratfor.com/corp/Corporate.neo?s=MED

The press release noted that Burton had "investigated the Al Qaeda bombing plots in New York City.. and orchestrated the arrest of Ramzi Yousef ." Burton will doubtless have a lot to discuss with his Stratfor colleague Kamran Bokhari, who has led rallies in support of Jihad in New York and the U.K, and written articles defending Bin Laden..

Kamran Bokhari's documented involvement with Al Muhajiroun can thus far be traced to 1997, where the introductory speaker at their "Rally Against Opression", in London together with the group's leaders Omar Bakri and Anjem Choudary. Bokhari was listed on a flyer as 'the chairman and spokesman for Al Muhajiroun in the U.S.A.. In 2001 Bokhari led chants calling for Jihad and Bin Laden, at an Al Muhajioun rally near Israeli consulate in New York.

According to a transcript of a tape of the event:

"Kamran Bokhari, head of the US branch of Al Muhajiroun, says that jihad is
the only solution. He explains, "we are only a few here, but we have a
billion muslims behind the jihad. They support the jihad in Palestine,
they support the Jihad in Chechnya, they support the Jihad in Kosovo and in
Kashmir. And although you may see a few before you, one day we will
liberate all Muslim lands. One day you will see the flag of Islam over the
    White House! Allahu Akhbar!"

Bokhari then leads his followers in chanting, "HEZBOLLAH, HEZBOLLAH! AND
want? JIHAD! What do we want? JIHAD! JIHAD! JIHAD!"

In 1999 Bokhari was the planning coordinator for the Muslim Students Association at Springfield University. Al Muhajiroun had come under media scrutiny and the group issued a press release in response to allegations that they had received money from Osama Bin Laden, declaring that ; "Brother Kamran Bokhari, who is the spokesperson for Al-Muhajiroun and is a respected member of society and a student of political science in his final year of undergraduate studies."

The press release ended with a mission statement calling for "Bonding the Muslim community in the west with Muslims globally in order to create an unbeatable bond within the Ummah and for them to be part of the preparations for the world wide Islamic revolution". http://www.meij.or.jp/new/Osama%20bin%20Laden/muhajiroun2.htm

Kamran Bokhari ,currently at Howard University in Washington DC. said he came to the U.S. "to get a good education because the country I come from measures your social status by your profession" . http://www.southweststandard.com/93-22/spotlight.html

Kamran Bokhari also led the Muslim Student Association at Springfield University. In the year 2000 the MSA received an $800 dollar grant from the school's Public Affairs Program to host a symposium entitled "Islam and the West". He invited Anjem Choudry, the Al Muhajiroun spokeman from the UK.. Choudary was billed as "The Chairman of the Society of Muslim Lawyers.""Faiza Noor, also from the UK was slated to speak about "Universal Human Rights". http://cicero.smsu.edu/how/pagrant/PAexamples.html .In 1998 Anjem Choudary had called for Muslims to demonstrate outside of the American embassy, stating,"whatever we do against the enemy of Allah will not be in vain". http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/fr/672306/posts . Choudary named himself as the leader of Al Muhajiroun in the U.K.

Bokhari had come to America from Pakistan at age 3 and settled in New York. His father was an employee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Pakistan worked at Pakistan's permanent mission to the United Nations.http://www.southweststandard.com/93-22/spotlight.html

In 2003 the Al Muhajaroun group published a rhetorical piece entitled; The U.N.: A Legitimate Target ? The writers began by praising the "tremendous operations in Palestine and Baghdad" in reference to the bombing of the UN headquarters in the Iraqi capitol. It concluded with Al Muhajaroun credo "Let it be known that all regimes... are rejected by Muslims...and the only legitimate authority...is that of the Islamic State I e Al-Khalifah ...which must be established by Muslims and which will carry the message of Islam to the world...the total domination of the world by Islam-through it's divine foreign policy of Jihad". http://united-states-of-earth.com/article.asp?MenuID=775

The Al Muhajiroun group is based in the UK and closely linked to Hizb ut Tahrir. and Al Qaeda . Both UK groups received international attention in 2003 when they celebrated the :anniversary" of the 9/11 attacks as' A Towering Day in History', and referred to the hijackers as, The Magnificent 19". In 2002 Sheik Omar Bakri aligned with Sheik Abu Hamza Al Masri, aka Abu Hamza, the Imam of the Finsbury Park mosque in London. http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/europe/01/20/uk.hamzaprofile/

Hamza's (who is now in jail awaiting extradition to the United States ) claim to fame were his congregants, which included Richard Reid, the Shoe Bomber, Zacharias Mossaoui, called the 20th hijacker, his co conspirator, Joshua Cortelellier, and James Ujaama, an American who pleaded guilty to aiding the Taliban . http://www.usdoj.gov/opa/pr/2003/April/03_crm_237.htm http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/europe/01/20/mosque.raid/
    http://haganah.org.il/resources/gavalt/ http://haganah.org.il/jihadi/viewAllInfo-16.html

Kamran Bokhari's work is also influential in the UK . A journalist who interviewed Sheik Omar Bakri and members of Al Muhijaroun related that ; "they recommended the writings of Kamran Bokhari".http://www.jpost.com/Editions/2000/05/30/Features/Features.7480.html

On February 23,2003 the American Academy of Social Scientists, AMSS, held" a landmark 3rd conference " which they claimed "broke new ground by dispelling the popular image that Muslim extremists are engaged in a holy war with the west", Syed Ashani, the former Ambassador to Pakistan, who had co-chaired the event, issued a press release headlined ;:"Texas blazes New Trail ; "Jamal Badawi reinterprets misunderstood Quranic Terms". The Event was billed as "Extremism A Threat to Global Peace". http://www.mcc-hs.org/community/events.html

The press release quoted a statement by Kamran Bokhari, board member of the AMSS ,who warned that; ;"neo conservatives and right wing fundamentalists influenced the Bush Administrations policies. Bokhari underscored "the threat they posed to intercivilization dialogue and harmony". He explored methods for overcoming these challenges". http://www.servetus.org/resources/newsarticles/articulos/articulo200308291.htm

Bokhari's' neoconphobism' is consistent with the ideology of Al Muhijaroun, which advocates the establishment of an global Islamic State through" ideological, political, and revolutionary means".http://www.southweststandard.com/93-22/spotlight.html . His Islamist "weltaanshauang" must make his conclusions as "a geopolitical researcher for Strategic Forecasting Incorporated", for an Austin based research group a foregone conclusion http://www.globalsecurity.org/wmd/library/news/pakistan/2004/pakistan-040102-35e756a1.htm

The past president of the AMSS Louay Safi, who is also a director of the Center for the Study of Islam and Democracy, is also a neocon phobe. http://www.islam-democracy.org/safi_bio.asp , In 2003 he sent out an invitation to an AMSS conference entitled ;"Examining Islam" and wrote, "You are well aware that a tight network of neo-conservatives have embarked on a crusade to defame Islam and American Muslims and equate them both with terrorism" .The Association of Muslim Social Scientists (AMSS) recognizes the danger posed by Islam-bashers and the need to inform our fellow citizens about the profound passion Muslim Americans have toward the noble principles that lie at the foundation of the United States".http://www.amss.net/AmssMonographSeries.html

Louay Safi's comment is noteworthy because it's clumsy wording inadvertently reveals the AMSSS's true agenda, which is to undermine the foundation of the United States. In 2002 Safi wrote that;Islam is essential for the development of a better future for human society because it's adherents constitute one-fifth of the world population." http://www.faithandvalues.com/tx/TAM-4/1/

The motto on the AMSSS website in both Arabic and English articulates the fundamentalist Islamist ambitions of the institute and it's members .

Thee do we worship, and Thine aid we Seek". http://www.amss.net/home.asp

    Muqtedar Khan, president of AMSS,and a member of the CSID .Khan echoed Safi's sentiments regarding Islam's potential power through sheer force of numbers. In a 2001 article Khan declared;

"There are over three and half million American Jews in New York, nearly as many as in Israel. No one can hope to win in New York without their money and their votes... But Muslims of New York and the US in general need not despair. The lack of moral spine in American politicians will eventually work for them sooner than later. There are already six million Muslims in America and Islam is by far the fastest growing religion in the US. At the present rate of growth there will be over 25 million Muslims in the US by the year 2025. Muslims have already overcome their moral inhibitions about bribing politicians (called campaign finance in the US). Soon they will not only be able to out-vote, but also out- bid the Jewish and most other ethnic lobbies." http://www.themodernreligion.com/jihad/hilary-mkhan.html

Both the AMSSS and the CSID are linked ideologically and financially to the International Institute of Islamic Thought a Saudi financed "think tank" which came under FBI scrutiny in 2003. http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=27199

The IIPT is connected to the Institute of Islamic Political Thought in London run by Ali Al Tamimi, a Hamas activist with ties to Hizb ut Tahrir. John Esposito is on the IIPT board of advisors as well Sheik Yusuf Abdullah Qaradawi ,who was linked to Al Qaeda funding together with Abdulrahman Alamoudi, who was arrested in December of last year.www.ii-pt.com http://www.ii-pt.com/web/cv.htm http://www.danielpipes.org/blog/115

http://www.ii-pt.com/web/advisors.htm The Institute of Islamic Political Thought, IIPT, is headed by Azzam Tammimi, a Hamas activist in the who runs the sister organisation of the IIIT in the UK . . http://www.ii-pt.com/web/advisors.htm

In 2003 the IIPT director, Basher Nafi, was arrested for his ties to Palestiniian Islamic Jihad . The webmaster for both the IIPT / IIIT which is linked to the AMSS is Iqbal Asaria , a London based economist, who is an adherent of Hizb ut Tahrir and the militant Saudi group the CDLR, the Committee for the Defense of legitimate Rights which calls for the overthrow of the Saudi Royal family as betrayers of true Islam". . Asaria Iqbal ran two pro Al Qaeda websites called Ummah.org and Jihad. org. . . http://www.campus-watch.org/article/id/599

In 2001 Iqbal Asaria was a guest at 10 Downing Street where he met James Wolfensohn of the World Bank .In 2003 Iqbal Asaria was instrumental in having the HSCB bank in Britain implement a program for banking according to Shar'ia law. Asqaria Iqbal is chair of the business and finance committee of the Muslim Council of Great Britain.

Louay Safi,on the board of directors of the Center for the Study of Islam and Democracy,is also a board member of the Center for Balanced Development aka the IPO along with Ali Mazrui, (an AMSS and a CSID board member), and John Esposito of the AMSS, IIPT, and CSID. http://i-p-o.org/cbd.htm http://www.islam-democracy.org/board.asp

Louay Safi, and John Esposito, are two examples of Islamists in the United States who hold official positions on numerous "think tanks',, committees, and institutions, and research projects, aimed at furthering their militant Islamist agenda .

The key words for these projects are' pluralism', 'diversity' ,'justice'.' peace', and outreach. .These enterprises are infused with with millions of dollars , much of it from the Saudis, and related donors. The PEW charitable trusts, named after the family who made their fortune through the Saudi Sun Oil company is one of the biggest donors to Islamist projects in the United States today. http://www.pewtrusts.com/about/index.cfm

Islamists in the United Nations and the World Bank have also set up different organisations to promote the anti West agenda. The network of donors and sponsors runs the gamut from UN funded NGO's such as the Red Crescent and Human Rights organisations to institutes like the LaRouche and Zayed foundations . http://www.schillerinstitute.org/lar_related/2002/lar_abu-dhabi.html http://www.oic-oci.org/english/fm/25/final25.htm

Louay Safi ,John Esposito, and Ali Masrui of the AMSSS are also on the board of directors of The Center for Balanced Development . The CBD was started in 1999 by Hans Koehler, who is also the founder and director of the IPO, The International Progress organisation ...Hans Koehler is an Austrian Islamist who works for the U.N. He defended Kurt Waldheim, when he was charged with being a Nazi officer in WWII . Hans Koechler was also a UN observer at the Lockerbie bombing trial in the in the Hague and protested that that the US had rigged the case.

In an essay entitled,"Global Justice Not Revenge" presented by the 'Center for Balanced Development', Louay Safi attacks Danell Pipes, Steve Emerson, Moses, and Jesus. . http://i-p-o.org/global_justice-safi.htm

"Still many, particularly in the media, continued to make both subtle and direct attacks on Islam's beliefs and values... Occasionally, the blame is laid at the doorstep of Islam by self-appointed experts on terrorism, à la Daniel Pines and Steven Emerson, who find it convenient to point fingers at all practicing Muslims in order to push their narrow political agenda. Beneath Safi's article is a link labelled "Terrorism" which connects to a pro Taliban/ Al Qaeda website headlined :"The So Called War on Terror ". http://www.themodernreligion.com/terror/wtc-global.html

At a 2002 symposium entitled: 'Islam's Relevance to Democracy and Pluralism', Louay Safi. advised the journalists in the audience "to keep a watchful eye on Muslim Americans whose numbers of late have increased rapidly". Safi acknowledged the "presence of radical groups in Muslim societies ,and stressed that these were fringe groups on the margin of society". He further stressed that the radicalization of Islam is linked, at least partly, to US foreign policy towards Muslim countries" . http://www.amsss/AmssNews_Islam.htm

His words echo those of the new AMSS president Muqtedar Khan, who stated that :America's exclusively self-regarding outlook, its arrogant unilateralism, its unwise and untrustworthy rhetoric and its belligerent posture, is alienating and angering people in the East and the West." http://www.islamfortoday.com/khan11.htm

Louay Safi and Muktedar Khan's hatred of America, and the emphasis on Islam as a force to be reckoned with, is at the core of Al Muhajiroun's ideology. Al Muhajiroun leader, Kamran Bokhari's AMSS executive board position shows that their agendas have merged and that the devil no longer needs to use deception.
