South Florida Terror Mosques Celebrate ‘Suicide Prevention Month'-Advertise Mental Health Resources While Glorifying Jihad & Martydom

September is Suicide Prevention Month, and the South Florida Muslim Federation (SFMF) wants the public to believe that it is committed to assisting those in crisis. Through its Florida Muslim Mental Health Initiative, the Federation is promoting a campaign carrying the message, "Together, we can save lives." Its new flyer advertises mental health resources and an upcoming event emphasizing assistance for those in need. But behind SFMF's compassionate façade lies an embrace of overseas terror that is a genuine threat to all of us here at home.
SFMF is not merely a group arranging mental health programs. It is a major umbrella organization representing a large network of South Florida's most dangerous mosques and community groups across Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties.
One of these Federation entities is the Council on American-Islamic Relations(CAIR), a group that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis recently moved to designatea terrorist organization due to its associations with Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood. SFMF has affiliated with CAIR, since the Federation began nearly a decade ago. In fact, SFMF's first Executive Director, Nezar Hamze, had just left his position with CAIR-Florida to join the Federation.
SFMF's annual conferences have also provided a platform for promoting and championing Hamas. Its 2024 conference, which this author successfully led efforts to shut down, was scheduled to feature speakers who had glorified Hamas terrorists following the October 7 massacre. At its 2025 conference, merchandise celebrating Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and other terrorists was offered for sale. Both conferences listed Islamic Relief, an organization Israel has accused of being a Hamas front, as a "Platinum Sponsor."
Last September, SFMF's mental health project, under the title "Breaking the Silence," held webinars at different mosques – all members of the Muslim Federation.
One of the institutions involved in SFMF's mental health programming is the Islamic Center of Boca Raton (ICBR), a mosque with deep ties to Hamas, al-Qaeda and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). The mosque received its seed moneyfrom the Global Relief Foundation (GRF), an al-Qaeda-linked charity shut down by the U.S. after 9/11. ICBR's website published violently antisemitic material. Its co-founder, Syed Khawer Ahmad, was a website developer for Hamas, and its founding imam, Ibrahim Dremali, publicly called for the annihilation of Israel's Jews.
Another radical mosque involved in the project is the Sunrise-based Islamic Foundation of South Florida (IFSF). IFSF has hosted speakers linked to terror, including Mazen Mokhtar, a former administrator for the now-defunct al-Qaeda financing/recruitment site, qoqaz.net, and supporter of suicide bombings. The mosque's former youth director (and ex-SFMF Facebook Manager) Abdurahman al-Ghani used social media to: refer to Jews as "children of Satan," label the U.S. the "World's Number One Terrorist Organization," and praise Hamas as "the real hero."
Yet another SFMF mosque participating in the project is Cooper City-based Nur Ul-Islam (NUI), whose affiliated school is Nur Ul-Islam Academy (NUIA). Former NUI Islamic Affairs Council and NUIA vice president Raed Awad served as the Florida representative of the Hamas-linked Holy Land Foundation (HLF). HLF was shut down by the U.S. government following 9/11. NUIA's website also previously linked to Islamway.com, a website cited in a federal terrorism indictment as containing material promoting violent jihad and soliciting contributions for Hamas.
Addressing the different venues and serving as the main face of this initiative is licensed mental health counselor Waheeda Saif. Less than two weeks after the October 7 massacre, Saif promoted terror-related groups "offering relief" to Gaza. One, SFMF member Islamic Relief, was banned by a number of nations, and Israel has labeled it a front for Hamas. Another, Baitulmaal, is headed by suicide-bombing supporter Mazen Mokhtar – the same man one of the host mosques for the suicide-prevention programming, IFSF, invited to speak.
The contradiction is stark and cannot be dismissed as coincidence. A campaign that claims to prevent suicides is being staged at a mosque that invited a man who has called suicide bombings "an effective method of attacking the enemy," while its public face promotes the charity he leads. One cannot preach the sanctity of life in South Florida while platforming those who treat suicide as a weapon.
This is not compassion. It is camouflage. Suicide Prevention Month should never become a public-relations shield for groups that platform Hamas apologists, sell merch honoring October 7 masterminds, and partner with charities accused of funneling aid to terrorists.
Floridians who care about both mental health and public safety should demand that SFMF repudiate its alliances with the ideology of suicide terror. SFMF cannot be permitted to play both arsonist and firefighter. The lives it claims to save here are not safer while it cheers the taking of lives over there.
