Gulshair Shukrijumah:Deceased Wahabi missionary and progenitor of "Mohamed Atta's sucessor" will be sorely missed by Muslim community

Saudi funded dad and family told fugitive 'dirty bomber wannabe' son to "stay away"
June 17, 2004

Gulshair Shukrijumah died in Miramar last week allegedly as a result of a stroke brought on by seeing his son's as yet thwarted attempts to follow in his terror tainted footsteps .

Some sources attributed his demise to "the will of Allah".

His funeral was attended by around 1,000 people who "prayed for Allah to accept their departed Sheik into his arms".

The press described Gulshair as an"esteemed Islamic teacher" and Ibrahim Dremali, the Imam of the Boca Raton Islamic Center, fondly recalled that "He,(Shukrijumah), had a positive effect on people".

Having a son who is accused of being an Al Qaeda terrorist operative is ample proof of Dremali's Islamist weltaanshaung about what is considered as"having a postive effect on people"

. Dremali's own son, Abdulrahman, was convicted in 2003 of stabbing a fellow Boca Middle School student with a pair of scissors, before he was transferred to an Islamic school which could better accomodate him.

The publicity surrounding Gulshair's son Adnan generated interest in ' Sheik Gulshair's' 'Master Arabic' course website.

Gulshair's son used his computer training to start a website to sell his dad's "MasterArabic" course.

The course got millions in free advertising after 2001 when son Adnan became one of America's most wanted, as a'dirty bomber wannabe".The national media showed close ups of the "MasterArabic" website sticker on the door of the Shukrijumah home .

The website guestbook was deluged with entries, which included one from Islamist and family friend Bilal Philips, an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 WTC bombings, who congratulated Shukrijumah's son on the site and referred to Gulshair as "my first teacher and dear friend".

Bilal Philips currently runs a large Islamic school in the UAE, which would be good place for Adnan to go to hone the 'missionary training' his father gave him.

Another post showed the FBI website with the AMW poster of Adnan and urged the Shukrijumah's to turn him in.

Other postings mocked Adnan's height and asked:

"Does your brother need a booster seat when he pilots a plane ?"

A poster who gave their location as "Whistling Dixie", eloquently summed up the perversity of the Shukrijumah's having a 'Master Arabic' website sticker pasted on their front door after Adnan became America's most wanted Al Qaeda terrorism suspect:

" you really wanted to draw attention to yourselves & this site? do you think this is a f--king game? I mean who in the hell (see flaming baghdad) are you thinking we want to learn Arabic at this point in this country? are you serious? sticker on your door for the cameras...nice trick."

The poster proffered this health tip to the Shukrijumahs:

"I suggest you idiots put Michael Jackson to shame with drastic cosmetic surgical measures, for this will be your only chance of hiding & and not getting your asses blown to hell in Florida. only a complete family of fools would flaunt this below the mason-dixon line."

It was signed: " a fan of shock and awe"

One poster who listed his name and email address as "Allah" plastered one and a half pages of the guest book with this timely message for the Shukrijumah's to pass along to Adnan:

"Tell your brother he is a dead motherf--ker".

Over the past two years, the Shukrijumahs have issued a slew of contradictory statements to the media regarding Adnan's whereabouts ,his activities, and when he left Florida, which indicate that they know alot more then they are telling.

In March 2003 Gulshair said that Adnan had phoned the family from Trinidad and instructed them,"Do not get panicked and stay cool ,and people will come to question you."

Shukrijumah insisted that Adnan "was a nice boy", adding, "I trained him to be a Islamic missionary".

Gulshair cried crocodile tears to the local media about being "fired" from his position as "spiritual leader " of the Al Hijrah mosque in Miramar because of the attention the presence of the progenitor of one of "Muhamed Atta's sucessor" would bring to their house of worship. http://web.archive.org/web/20021003125917/http://web.archive.org/web/20021003124842/http://web.archive.org/web/20021003125917/http://web.archive.org/web/20021003124842/http://web.archive.org/web/20021003125917/http://web.archive.org/web/20021003124842/http://web.archive.org/web/20021003125917/http://web.archive.org/web/20021003124842/http://web.archive.org/web/20021003125917/http://web.archive.org/web/20021003124842/http://web.archive.org/web/20021003125917/http://web.archive.org/web/20021003124842/http://web.archive.org/web/20021003125917/http://web.archive.org/web/20021003124842/http://web.archive.org/web/20021003125917/http://web.archive.org/web/20021003124842/http://web.archive.org/web/20021003125917/http://web.archive.org/web/20021003124842/http://web.archive.org/web/20021003125917/http://web.archive.org/web/20021003124842/http://web.archive.org/web/20021003125917/http://web.archive.org/web/20021003124842/http://web.archive.org/web/20021003125917/http://web.archive.org/web/20021003124842/http://web.archive.org/web/20021003124842/http://web.archive.org/web/20021003124842/http://web.archive.org/web/20021003124842/http://web.archive.org/web/20021003124842/http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/03/27/60II/main546325.shtml

The Al Hijrah mosque doubles as the Caribbean American Islamic Association's headquarters, which is lead by Maulana Shafayat Mohammed, the Imam of Dar Ul Uloom, and the head of the Hollywood Interfaith council.

Maulana'sDar Ul Uloom Islamic Institute was also a local terrorist hangout, and in addition to Gulshair and his son,was frequented by jailed Jihadi wannabes Imran Mandhi,Shueyb Jokhan, and Jose Padilla.

In 2003 Gulshair intimated that losing his $500 dollar a month position as Imam at Al Hijrah would bring financial hardship to him and his family . He sniveled to the press that "I feel very said because I have done no wrong", and declared that "if my son is suspect in something it does not mean that I too am also suspect."

According to Michael Isikoff's and Mark Hosenball's April 2004 Newsweek investigative articles into Saudi government terror funding :

"The Florida based Imam (Gulshair Shukrijumah),has been on the FBI radar screen for some time."

"In response to the U.S. calls for tighter controls the Saudi government terminated payments to Gulshair El Shukrijumah, along with a number of other clerics being supported by the embassy."

Gulshair Shukrijumah collected $19,400 dollars in checks from the Saudi embassy between 2000 and 2003 . He also acted as interpreter for the 'Blind Sheik' Omar Abdel Rahman who masterminded the 1993 WTC bombings,as well as plots to bomb other U.S. landmarks, and instigated attacks abroad."

(The Shukrijumah's said that Adnan "disappeared" a few months before 9/11 .Neighbors claim to have seen him after the attacks. )

Gulshair was also listed as a director of the Shamshuddin Islamic Center, which is connected to the AMANA ,(American Muslim Society of North America), which is run by "close family friend" Sofian Abdelaziz Zakout, aka Abdelaziz, who implied that if his own son were one of America's Most Wanted terrorism suspects, "I would be very depressed", I don't think my health could take it. "

Americans who get "very depressed" about the prospect of a dirty bomb being detonated by Gulshair's son, or someone else's, and are wondering whether "their health could take it",should be very moved by the Shukrijumah family friend's empathetic sentiments.

In Sunni South Florida, the Muslim community is just one big Jihadi family.

"These are very hard times ... trust in the Lord to deliver us from such trials," 72-year-old Gulshair El-Shukrijumah told reporters on Wednesday.

His son, Adnan, 27, is being sought by the FBI on suspicion of plotting terrorist attacks inside the United States. But El-Shukrijumah insists his son is not a terrorist, and he says he is being punished before his son has even been accused of any crime.

"I feel very sad because I have done no wrong," El-Shukrijumah said.

El-Shukrijumah said his family has endured multiple interrogations by federal authorities, who believe Adnan may have ties to al-Qaida, and he said the Miramar mosque where he has served as spiritual leader for several years has asked him to step down.

"They are afraid the mosque may be implicated in problem," he said. "I myself feel it is not right. If my son is a suspect in anything, (it) does not mean to say I am a also suspect."

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Poor old Gulshair was lucky he got married to a 16 year old in when he was 44 in Saudi Arabia , or he might be facing with other charges as well.

After the manhunt for Adnan made national news,Gulshair tearfully declared he was asked to "step down" from his post as leader of Masjid Al Hijrah' and implied that he would face financial hardship as a result.

Among many things ,Gulshair did not reveal that he is a director of the Shamshuddin Islamic Center in North Miami Beach, which is connected to AMANA, The American Muslim Society of North America ,whos goal is the "preaching and teaching of Islam".

One advisor to AMANA, is Ibrahim Dremali, an Imam at the Islamic Center of Boca Raton and a professor at Broward Community College.the school which was attended by Jihadis Adnan Shukrijumah, Jokhan ,and Mandhi.

The director of AMANA, Sofian Abdelaziz Zakout had this to say about the South Florida Islamist scene.

"I saw (El Shukrijumah, Padilla and Mandhai) at different times in different mosques, and I always said hello," says Sofian Abdelaziz, director of the American Muslim Association of North America, a community services group in North Miami Beach.

"Does that make me a terrorist?"

Gulshair Shukrijumah on the Wahabi payroll:

But other transactions raised eyebrows at the FBI. The Riggs accounts showed a number of checks to flight schools and flight-school students in the United States as well as 50 separate $1,000 American Express travelers checks issued by Bandar to Saudi employees between July 9, 2001 and Aug. 28, 2001—including seven that were deposited that summer at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas. Riggs also reported $19,200 in payments from the Saudi Embassy to Gulshair al-Shukrijumah, a Florida-based imam who once served as an interpreter for the "blind Sheik" Omar Abdul Rahman, who was convicted in 1996 of a plot to blow up New York City landmarks. Gulshair al-Shukrijumah's son, Adnan al-Shukrijumah, also known as "Jaffar the Pilot," is a suspected Al Qaeda operative who is the subject of a worldwide FBI manhunt. (In response to U.S. demands to impose tighter controls, the Saudis have since terminated the payments to Gulshair al-Shukrijumah, along with a number of other clerics who were being supported by the embassy

"New Questions about Saudi Money and Bandar "

MIM:Investigative reporter Michael Isikoff documents Saudi payments to Maulana Shafayat Mohammed's colleague and neighbor, Gulshair Shukrijumah.

The federal commission investigating 9/11 was also recently briefed on developments, sources say. U.S. official's stress that they have identified no evidence of any knowing Saudi aid to terrorist groups. But they express frustration at their inability to penetrate a number of large and seemingly irregular transactions.

"There's a lot of money moving in a lot of directions—maybe not all that carefully," said one senior law-enforcement official.

"Everyone wants to get to the bottom of it "

Among the payments that have drawn scrutiny, documents show, were $19,200 in checks between December 2000 and January 2003 from the Saudi Embassy to an Islamic cleric, Gulshair Muhammad al-Shukrijumah. The Florida-based imam has been on the FBI's radar screen for some time: he once testified on behalf of convicted terrorist Clement Hampton-El. The imam's son, Adnan G. al-Shukrijumah, also known as "Jafar the Pilot," is a suspected Qaeda operative who is the subject of a worldwide FBI manhunt. A Saudi spokesman said Gulshair al-Shukrijumah was a Saudi-funded "missionary" whose payments were terminated last year.

Another area of FBI inquiry involves $70,000 in wire transfers on July 10, 2001, to two Saudis in Massachusetts. One of the Saudis wrote a $20,000 check that same day to a third Saudi who had listed the same address as Aafia Siddiqui, a microbiologist who is believed to have been a U.S. operative for 9/11 mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed. A Saudi spokesman said the wire transfers had no connection to Siddiqui and were used to pay educational and medical expenses for Saudi families in the United States. But bureau officials say the matter remains under active investigation; a government document shows the bulk of the funds were wired to an account in Saudi Arabia...

Guests to the Shukrijumah home and next door Islamic center have included ,Imran Mandhi, who was jailed in 2003 for planning to wage Jihad with explosives in Florida, and Cheri Stultz, Jose' Padillas ex wife . One wonders if Adhan Shukrijumah was plotting his dirty bomb strategy and saving Saudi money by living at his parents.

It is still' business as usual at Masjid Al Hijrah' and Maulana Shafayat Mohammed's Caribbean American Society which is housed in the same building next door to the Shukrijumah family home. Gulshair is still a regular at the Al Hijrah mosque despite his claims that he was "fired" as its prayer leader .
