Scott Singer: Boca Raton's Own Version of Mamdani

Mayor Singer awards proclamations to radical Muslims and anti-gun, anti-Trump activists.

January 1, 2026 by Joe Kaufman Leave a Comment

When Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer announced his run for U.S. Congress, it was not met with excitement across the city he governs. For many residents, Singer's entry into national politics feels less like an elevation and more like an escape – an attempt to rebrand a local record that has left South Florida voters deeply frustrated and scornful.

While Singer labels himself an "America First" Republican, his actions tell a very different story, including endorsing Jeb Bush for President over Donald Trump for the 2016 Presidential Primary, saying Bush was not "running on anger." In Boca Raton, Singer has earned a reputation not as a conservative leader, but as a Republican In Name Only (RINO).

A Mayor Obsessed With Proclamations

One of the defining features of Scott Singer's tenure has been his fondness for issuing proclamations – symbolic gestures that often align more with progressive activism than conservative principles. Time and again, Singer has deliberately used the authority of his office to bestow official legitimacy on leftist and dangerous organizations and causes, often without regard for community backlash or broader implications.

These proclamations are not benign ceremonial acts. They are politically charged and controversial, and they have consistently affronted the Republican base he now seeks to court in a congressional primary.

Embracing Anti-Gun and Anti-Trump Activists

Perhaps no example better illustrates Singer's ideological drift than his enthusiastic embrace of the activist group Moms Demand Action (MDA). MDA is a nationally coordinated, anti-gun group that openly supports firearm bans, promotes the transgender movement, enthusiastically endorsed Kamala Harris for President, and routinely denounces President Trump.

Singer has issued annual proclamations honoring MDA. In June 2018, a widely circulated photo posted by the group on social media depicts Singer presenting such a proclamation to two of its representatives, at MDA's "Wear Orange" campaign event. All of the participants, including the Mayor, are respectively dressed in orange.

That same year, Singer helped lead the MDA-affiliated March for Our Lives rally, where attendees proudly hoisted anti-gun and anti-Trump signs. At least one sign targeted Republicans themselves, stating, "THE ONLY THING EASIER TO BUY THAN A GUN IS A G.O.P. CANDIDATE." The irony of this quote is unmistakable – Singer aligns himself with activists who openly ridicule the party he now claims to represent.

Furthermore, Singer used his position as Mayor of Boca Raton, to join the effort to sue the State of Florida for the right to enact local gun control measures. Boca's taxpayers footed the bill for Boca's part in the lawsuit, which included other cities and which ultimately was lost in Florida's Supreme Court.

Selling Out Boca's Public Lands?

Singer's troubles at home go far beyond symbolism. Boca Raton residents have long expressed outrage over his record on public land use – particularly his support for proposals that critics say would hand over irreplaceable community assets to private developers.

Most notably, Singer backed efforts to privatize Memorial Park, the largest park in downtown Boca Raton and a site dedicated to World War II veterans, for the construction of high-rise apartments and condominiums. The proposal ignited fierce backlash from residents who viewed it as a betrayal of both the city's history and the public trust.

Critics have warned that these plans would worsen congestion and would permanently damage Boca Raton's quality of life – essentially stripping the city of vital green space while ignoring overwhelming public opposition.

To most Boca residents, Singer is not seen as a steward of public lands, but as a facilitator for developers – willing to sacrifice parks, memorials, and community assets in pursuit of backroom deals. That resentment has not faded, and it now follows him into his congressional campaign.

A "Republican" Who Courts Democrats

Despite claiming the Republican label, Singer's own social media tells a different story. He has publicly posted photos of himself with Joe Biden and members of the Biden administration.

When he was running for Mayor, in 2018, Singer posted a big photo of extreme liberal Congresswoman Lois Frankel (along with his logo) on his social media and said he was "honored" to have her endorsement.

In October 2022, Palm Beach County Republican Executive Committee Chairman Mike Barnett condemned Singer for allegedly endorsing Democrat Andy Thompson over Republican Peggy Gossett-Seidman for Florida State House. Barnett described Thompson as a "woke, tax and spend Biden Democrat" and threatened Singer with Republican "censure." He stated, "By endorsing Thomson, Singer is endorsing open borders, bloated government budgets, and all of Thomson's tax hike votes during his tenure on Boca's City Council."

Jack Furnari, the founder and publisher of the conservative Florida Jolt and President of BizPac, wrote, regarding Singer's support for Democrats, "I've met a lot of slimy, lying politicians, but none of them were as bad as the current Mayor Of Boca Raton, Scott Singer…" Furnari said that his publication has been "documenting Singer's lies and half-truths."

Bowing to Radical Islam

Most alarming is Singer's documented engagement with radical Islamic figures and institutions.

In June 2022, Singer issued an official City of Boca Raton proclamationdeclaring July "Muslim Heritage Month" on behalf of the Islamic Center of Boca Raton (ICBR) – a mosque with a long and widely reported record of terrorist ties. The proclamation did not merely recognize the group; Singer personally encouraged residents to "visit ICBR."

ICBR received approximately $600,000 in seed funding from the Global Relief Foundation (GRF), an organization designated by the U.S. Treasury Department for ties to Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda. ICBR's own website previously featured violently antisemitic essays, including material describing Jews as "people of treachery and betrayal," labeling them "enemies," and invoking calls for Muslims to "fight the Jews and kill them."

ICBR's leadership history is equally disturbing. Co-founder Syed Khawer Ahmad worked as a website developer for Hamas while attending Boca's Florida Atlantic University (FAU). Founding imam Ibrahim Dremali was placed on the federal no-fly list and, during a May 2021 live interview, openly urged viewers to financially support Hamas while calling for jihad, saying "[I]f the Arab leaders open the borders of Palestine… the Jews, they'll be inside that ocean."

Another ICBR founder and current Secretary, Bassem Alhalabi, previously served as an assistant to Sami al-Arian, a convicted leader of Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). Alhalabi collaborated with al-Arian on written materials and even listed him as a professional reference when applying for a teaching position at FAU. In 2003, Alhalabi was charged by the U.S. Commerce Department for illegally exporting a $13,000 thermal imaging device to Syria.

According to the South Florida Muslim Federation – of which ICBR is a member – Alhalabi played a key role in securing Singer's mayoral proclamation.

Singer has repeatedly posed for photographs with Alhalabi. He has also been photographed next to Hasan Sabri, a radical South Florida imam who has publicly denounced the United States as an "enemy" and threatened Muslims who accept American assistance.

When confronted directly by this author at a synagogue event in East Boca, Singer dismissed all concerns, insisting that I was mistaken and that Alhalabi was a "good man."

Alhalabi, for his part, has returned the favor – publicly and repeatedly urging his followers on social media to vote for Singer.

A RINO with a Record He Can't Escape

Scott Singer's congressional ambitions rest on the hope that Republican voters will ignore his record. But the citizens of Boca Raton and South Florida remember. They remember the proclamations. They remember the developer deals. They remember the photo ops with anti-gun activists, Biden officials, and Islamic extremists.

Singer's problem is not messaging – it is a record that contradicts it. His record reflects a politician far more comfortable with progressive causes, Democrat leaders, and radical Islamic associations than with the conservative principles he now claims to champion.

In Congress, voters deserve clarity, courage, and conviction. Scott Singer has shown none of these. What he has shown, repeatedly, is that when given power, he uses it to please the Left, alienate his community, and legitimize the unacceptable. Republican voters don't need another dishonest RINO in Congress pretending to be a conservative. They should take him at his record – because it tells the truth he would rather run from.

MIM: The article above about ICBR's ties to terrorism was written in 2003. In 2000 the then imam of the Islamic Center of Boca Raton, Ibrahim Dermali a prominent Hamas leader who came to the United States from Gaza, lead a rally and urged his fellow Muslims; 'not to be sad for those who were martyred, and to not be afraid to die for what they believe in'. The crowd chanted "We don't want negotiation, with jihad we'll claim our nation," and "With jihad we'll claim our land, Zionist blood will wet the sand." A five year old Muslim child clad in combat fatiques 'grabbed a megaphone and lead the crowd in screaming 'Allahu Akbar! As can be seen below and in the report about a rally in support of terrorism in 2000 the jihad lead by the Islamic Center of Boca Raton continues, aided and abetted by 'Jews4Jihad' and useful idiots like Boca Raton's Mayor Scott Singer.

South Florida Protest Calls For Jihad - October 18, 2000

by Um Ahmad

MIAMI (IslamOnline) - Pro-Palestinian demonstrations in South Florida are gradually taking on a more aggressive tone. Last Saturday protestors in Miami gathered for the fifth time since the beginning of the current intifada sparked by a controversial visit by Ariel Sharon to the al-Haram al-Sharif.

This is the fourth of such protests held in front of the Israeli consulate in Miami, the other was held in front of the Holocaust Memorial as a counter protest to a pro-Israeli rally.

Saturday's demonstration was not a call for peace with the Israelis. Rather, the demonstration specifically called for a jihad (holy struggle).

Muslims representing several countries joined together in chanting pro-jihadi slogans, such as "We don't want negotiation, with jihad we'll claim our nation," and "With jihad we'll claim our land, Zionist blood will wet the sand."

Karima Rahim, an American Muslima, said, "I think what the Israeli Jews are doing is a crime against humanity. They [the Israelis] need to get out of that land [Palestine]. If the U.S. is so worried about it, they should just give them [Palestinians] a state."

Five-year-old Jibreel S., clad in military fatigues and holding a sign reading "Jewish values: Kill women and children," took the lead in an all children's demonstration held behind the adults. Another child led the group in chanting, "U.S. taxes paid the bill, Israelis used it all to kill."

This was Jibreel's second protest in one week. At the first protest he attended, during a public reading of the names of the shuhadaa (martyrs), he cried out, "Why? Why? Why are they killing those kids? What did they do wrong?" While adults tried to keep their tears back, Jibreel grabbed the megaphone on his own and shouted "Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar!"

Turnout at Saturday's protest indicated that what is occurring in Palestine is not just a concern for Palestinians, but for Muslims from around the world as well. Not only were there Palestinian, but also Bosnian, Chechen, Egyptian, Moroccan, Hezbollah, and various African and other green Islamic flags waved throughout the day in solidarity.

The crowd cheered loudly as a car passed with a Saudi Arabian youth holding a sign that read: "I have a dream... that one day Palestine will be free." When questioned by reporters, he emphatically stated: "Make sure you let people know that I am from Saudi Arabia. I want people to know that Saudi Arabians are standing up for Palestine!" People from all backgrounds seemed to share the same sentiment.

The demonstration took on a more solemn tone when the crowd gathered together around a mock cemetery with cardboard "gravestones" for each of the Palestinians killed since the beginning of the current intifada.

The scene was grim as children laid down in between the graves without moving while Ibrahim Dremali, the Imam of the Islamic Center of Boca Raton, urged the crowd not to be sad for those who were martyred, and to not be afraid to die for what they believe in.

The crowd then joined in following a mock funeral procession amidst shouts of "Haya 'ala al-jihad," occasionally stopping to burn Israeli flags.

Before the crowd dispersed, Muslims from all backgrounds loudly chanted "Muslims united, will never be divided".

Observers have stated that if the Israelis were to be credited with anything these past two weeks, it would be for uniting the Muslim and Arab world against them.

Another demonstration is scheduled for October 21st at the Holocaust War Memorial in Miami. (for more details and directions, contact www.free-jerusalem.com)

The Islamic Center Of Boca Raton's Terrorist Reunion - Dremali, Alhalabi, Ahmad, Hamza & Qureshi

ICBR Remains A Hotbed Of Terror - Should Be Shut Down Immediately - Alhalabi Declares "We're Not Going Anywhere"

Boca Raton Terrorist Reunion

20 years of ties to Hamas, Islamic Jihad and al-Qaeda.

January 17, 2019 Joe Kaufman

This past November, the Islamic Center of Boca Raton (ICBR) held its 20th Anniversary celebration, and with it came a number of Muslim extremist faces from the past. Honored was ICBR co-founder and former web designer for Hamas, Syed Ahmad. Attending, along with Ahmad, who should have been barred from entering the US, were his fellow co-founders, who were and are no less dangerous. It was a reunion of terror.

The notice found on ICBR's website read: "Please join us for a special event to honor Br. Syed Khawer Ahmad a founding member of ICBR who relocated to UK in 2001. We will also take this opportunity to celebrate ICBR 20th Anniversary with the presence of all 5 founding members including Imam Ibrahim Dremali."

ICBR was established by those involved in the Muslim Student Organization at Florida Atlantic University (MSO at FAU), including then-MSO advisor Khalid Hamza. The three founding directors of the ICBR corporation were FAU graduate Syed Ahmad, travel agency owner Khalid Qureshi, and FAU professor Bassem Alhalabi. The founding imam was Ibrahim Dremali.

Of the founders, only Alhalabi is still active in ICBR. He is the President of the mosque.

Prior to arriving at FAU, Alhalabi was located in Tampa at the University of South Florida (USF), working as an assistant to USF professor Sami al-Arian. This, while al-Arian was actively creating an American infrastructure for Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). In May 2006, al-Arian would plead guilty to providing services to PIJ. Alhalabi co-authored publications with al-Arian and, when applying to FAU, he used al-Arian as a reference.

In June 2003, the US Department of Commerce charged Alhalabi with illegally shipping a $13,000 military-grade thermal imaging device to Syria, a state sponsor of terrorism. Alhalabi has, as well, been arrested for assault.

As the ICBR notice mentioned, Syed Ahmad relocated to the UK. Today, he is a Senior Product Manager for Spectralink Corporation, and he is the owner and director of Experticom. Previous to that, he worked for the UK division of Panasonic from June 2002 to March 2013.

Around the time that he co-founded ICBR, Ahmad designed the first website for the Islamic Association, al-Jamia al-Islamiya, the Gaza-based parent organization of Hamas. The site contains a letter asking for funds for children's schools and camps, signed by then-Director of the Islamic Association, Hamas leader Ahmad Bahar.

Bahar has since called for the annihilation of Jews and Americans, stating "Kill them all, without leaving a single one." Ahmad also did the site for the Islamic Association's Gaza Quranic education affiliate, Dar al-Quran al-Karim.

Ahmad was the webmaster for the official website of the Islamic Circle of North America's South East Region (ICNA-SE), while the site's homepage featured prominent links to the main websites for Hamas, Hezbollah and the Taliban and called on its web viewers to provide "material support" to groups affiliated with Al-Qaeda. And he was the webmaster for free-jerusalem.com, a site that mourned the killing of and featured numerous photographs of the former spiritual leader and founder of Hamas, Ahmed Yassin.

Ibrahim Dremali is currently located in Fort Worth, Texas, where he and his latest wife, convert Annie Lin, run the Dremali Foundation.

From March 2000 to September 2001, Dremali was listed as one of eight local contacts for ICNA-SE, on the same web page as the aforementioned links to terrorist groups. In October 2000, Dremali spoke at a rally where Israeli flags were burned and the crowd shouted, "With jihad we'll claim our land, Zionist blood will wet the sand." Dremali told the audience "not to be sad for those who were martyred and to not be afraid to die for what they believe in."

In August 2002, Dremali was a character witness at a hearing for Adham Hassoun, an al-Qaeda operative who would later be convicted of providing material support to terrorist groups. Hassoun had been a fundraiser for the Global Relief Foundation (GRF), a terrorist charity that was shut down by the US government in December 2001. ICBR gave close to $17,000 to GRF, and in January 2000, ICBR received $600,000 from GRF as seed moneytowards the construction of a new 27,000-square-foot ICBR mosque.

In an April 2006 article in the Des Moines Register, Dremali claimed that his name had been added to a federal 'no-fly' list. In October 2010, Dremali and his then-wife, Safaa Eissa, were arrested by federal immigration agents on charges of engaging in fraudulent marriages to others to gain US citizenship. The woman who Dremali was accused of marrying, Lamyaa Hashim (aka Um Ahmad), was the President of a now-defunct Hamas-related charity, the Health Resource Center for Palestine (HRCP), of which Sayed Ahmad was Secretary/Treasurer.

From October 1999 through September 2001, ICBR published a violently anti-Semitic essay on its website, titled'Why can't the Jews and Muslims live together in peace?' It described Jews as "people of treachery and betrayal" and "enemies." It quoted the 'Prophet' Muhammad, saying a "Day of Judgement" will come when Muslims will "fight the Jews and kill them." Dremali claimed that the website article was the result of hackers. It was a lie, as the ICBR website contained much material from the same place the offending article originated from, the site Islam Q&A.

The imam who replaced Dremali at ICBR, Muneer Arafat, was arrested, in November 2002, by INS and FBI agents in Sarasota, Florida for overstaying his visa. Prior to Sarasota, Arafat lived in Saint Louis, where he became acquainted with Sami al-Arian and where he roomed with al-Qaeda operative Ziyad Khaleel, the man who delivered the satellite phone that was used by Osama bin Laden to plan the 1998 bombings of US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. In June 2005, while giving courtroom testimony about al-Arian, Arafat stated under oath that he himself was a member of Palestinian Islamic Jihad and that he was in favor of "destroying Israel."

The terrorist links of those who established ICBR are widely documented, as are their criminal activities. Yet, despite this, ICBR recently was allowed to purchase another 91 acres of land for $4.91 million. Concerning the purchase, ICBR President Bassem Alhalabi belligerently stated, "The Muslim community is part of this community, part of the fabric of this society. We're not going anywhere."

The Islamic Center of Boca Raton started as a terror hotbed and remains one to this day. It should have been shut down years ago.
