March 8, 2017 Joe KaufmanTamim Chowdhury, a Contracting Officer and Project Manager at the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in Washington, DC, recently exited from his position as leader of a radical Muslim organization, Emerge USA. He conveniently left his relationship with the group off his LinkedIn page, while only mentioning his government affiliations. Now, after this extremist part of his life was exposed in FrontPage, he has taken callous postings he had made in Facebook denouncing President Trump and portraying racist stereotypes and hidden them, as well. Tamim Chowdhury once boasted, during an interview, that he was the first National Executive Director of Emerge USA, an organization headquartered in South Florida with a small number of local chapters around the country. Yet, since he departed the group last year, he does not appear to be so keen on sharing the experience. This is indicative of the fact that he left any and all mention of the group off of his LinkedIn page. Why? Emerge USA, despite its innocuous name, is a radical Muslim outfit masquerading as a political advocacy organization. Emerge holds events at radical mosques, including those associated with al-Qaeda, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), and co-sponsors events with other radical Muslim groups. One such group Chowdhury, in his leadership capacity, participated in different events with was the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA). ICNA is the American affiliate of South Asian Islamist group Jamaat-e-Islami (JI). JI's militant wing, Hizbul Mujahideen, owned the Pakistani compound where Osama bin Laden was hiding out and where he was eventually killed by US Navy Seals. ICNA, itself, has been linked to terrorist financing and has used the web to promote different terrorist groups, including Hamas, al-Qaeda, Hezbollah and the Taliban. In July 2014, ICNA co-sponsored a pro-Hamas rally held in Downtown Miami, where rally goers shouted, "We are Hamas" and "Let's go Hamas." The founder and Co-Chairman of Emerge, Khurrum Wahid, is a South Florida attorney who has built his reputation on representing high-profile terrorists prosecuted by the US government. They include operatives from al-Qaeda and the Taliban. Previously, Wahid served as a legal advisor for the national office of the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). According to the Miami New Times, Wahid himself was placed on a federal terrorist watch list in 2011. This month, this author exposed this info in an article for FrontPage Magazine, entitled Anti-Trump Activist, Former Leader of Islamist Group Working at the VA.' Also exposed were troubling postings Chowdhury had made on Facebook attacking President Donald Trump and depicting negative and racially offensive stereotypes. In February 2015, Chowdhury posted an anti-Trump diatribe written by Islamist lecturer Yasir Qadhi, referring to President Trump as "Donald Trump, a fascist demagogue who appeals to the basest instincts in fundamentalists and fanatics." In May 2015, Chowdhury posted a link to an article titled, An Open Letter to My Children About Donald Trump' along with a graphic depicting an angry looking Trump with the words "MAKE AMERICA HATE AGAIN." The article paints the President as an intensely bigoted and power hungry individual. It states, "Being Donald Trump means that you are afraid. That you are afraid of people who are not like you... And that fear makes you hate those people. All of those people." And in October 2015, after actress Jennifer Lawrence conspiratorially said that President Trump would be "the end of the world," Chowdhury wrote, "Glad to know I'm not alone." What was more disturbing than the postings, themselves, though, was the fact that Chowdhury kept them on his Facebook page while working for the Trump Administration. He began his job with the VA as Contracting Officer and Project Manager in August 2016 and has been there ever since. However, Chowdhury's postings are no longer in existence (except as screenshots). Following this author'sFrontPage piece, Chowdhury removed them all of them. In addition, Chowdhury removed an April 2016 Facebook posting he made containing a map of South Florida, labeling different areas using ethnicities, stereotypes and racial slurs. The cities Margate, Sunrise and Lauderhill are circled and labeled in red marker "The f*****g hood." Davie and Cooper City are circled and labeled "Rednecks." Hialeah is circled and labeled "Cuba." And Surfside and Miami Shores are circled and labeled "Jews." In deleting his Facebook postings, it is clear that Tamim Chowdhury is concerned about them, just as he was concerned enough about his time spent employed at Emerge USA to keep any mention of it off of his LinkedIn page. But the fact is he should be concerned, and so should everyone else. Even though Chowdhury scrubbed his postings from his Facebook page, and even though he left his time with Emerge off his LinkedIn page, that does not mean that these things have been erased from Chowdhury, himself or that he has repudiated his Islamist ideology. Indeed, all of it his time spent involved with radical Muslim groups and his bigotry and attacks against the President only took place within the last few years and ought to raise a giant red flag. Tamim Chowdhury should not be working in any capacity for the United States government, let alone a military apparatus such as the VA. His extremist background and his documented hostility toward President Trump preclude him from being anything but an infiltrator and should render him a threat to the President and to society. He should be terminated by the VA without delay. Beila Rabinowitz, Director of Militant Islam Monitor, contributed to this report. |
