Boston Marathon Bomber Sentenced to Death
After deliberating for more than 14 hours, jurors sentence 21-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev to death over 2013 bombing.

A jury on Friday sentenced Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev to death, CNN reports.
The jury deliberated for more than 14 hours over parts of three days before reaching its decision on Friday afternoon (local time). They were tasked with deciding whether Tsarnaev should be sentenced to life in prison or death.
The jurors thus refuted the 21-year-old lawyers' argument that he was pulled into the plot by his radicalized Muslim older brother, Tamerlan.
Tsarnaev said nothing when the verdict was announced at about 3:30 p.m., reported NBC News. Several jury members wept as Judge George O'Toole thanked them for their service, the report said.
After he is formally sentenced by O'Toole, Tsarnaev will likely end up at the U.S. Bureau of Prison's death row in Terra Haute, Indiana, where he is expected to embark on an appeals process that could last years before he is finally killed by lethal injection. At 21, he will become the youngest person on federal death row, noted NBC.
Tsarnaev was convicted in April of 30 counts. He was found guilty of conspiring and detonating weapons of mass destruction at a public event as an act of terrorism resulting in death.
Tsarnaev has confirmed that his older brother Tamerlan was behind the 2013 attack and that he "wanted to defend Islam from attack."
Following the bombings, the FBI discovered that Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who was killed in a shootout with police, had sent text messages to his mother as early as 2011 suggesting he was willing to die for Islam.
The interfaith group Americans for Peace and Tolerance said after the attack that the mosque attended by the two brothers "has a curriculum that radicalizes people."
