The West's Cultural Malaise and its Bearing on Resisting External Threat

August 13, 2012 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Multiple Internet searches over a number of days reveals that no major news organization will go anywhere near what is one of, if not the, most important story in a very long time, announced last Wednesday at a DC PR event.
As of 07:30 August 12, exactly 63 pieces had been aggregated by Google News, with the major media's contribution nowhere in evidence, i.e. no filings by the usual suspects, CBS, MSNBC, CNN and the rest.
The story is toxic.CSPAN however, to its credit, was there shooting video of the entire event.
The news to which the above refers was "broken" [shards of this story have been seriously floating about for months] at the National Press Club in DC.Ok, enough teasing of the story...
On August 9, the highly respected former Federal Prosecutor Andrew C. McCarthy headlined a major press event during which he presented a wealth of information [including documents in a press kit] regarding the influence/infiltration operations currently underway - undertaken by the Muslim Brotherhood [MB] - which have targeted this White House. This cultural jihad is being coordinated by the domestic representatives of the Brotherhood.
To be accurate the MB has been engaged in these efforts since well before Mr. Obama came to town. Refining that statement; the degree to which previous administrations were compromised was nil as compared to the welcoming arms of Team Obama such as the administration's endorsement of the Muslim Brotherhood coming to power in Egypt and its choice of the most radical domestic MB front groups as partners.
By way of quick background; the Brotherhood created in Egypt by Hassan al-Banna Egypt in 1928 is almost universally understood by non-politicized [therefore excluding nincompoops such as Obama's counter terrorist advisor, John O. Brennan and Secretary of State Clinton] national security professionals as being the ideological and logistical motive force behind the current resurgence of Islamic jihad.
Al-Qaeda, Hamas and similar terrorist groups were birthed by the Ikhwan [Arabic for Muslim Brotherhood]. Its early intellectual powerhouse, Sayyid Qutb's many Islamist tracts are required reading by jihadists around the world, especially his most well known work, Milestones, which is a fiery but thoughtfully constructed Islamist refutation of Western values as well as a call for making "God's religion" [Islam] supreme through jihad.
In an August 8 PIpeLineNews.org filing, Former Federal Prosecutor Andrew McCarthy and Frank Gaffney's Presser On Possible Muslim Brotherhood Influence Operation Inside White House we showed why Mr. McCarthy has special credibility in this area of study. He is the party responsible for prosecuting and convicting Omar Abdel Rahman, the "Blind Sheik," on terror charges relating to the first [1993] bombing of New York's World Trade Center and related conspiracies to bomb New York landmarks.
Rahman is now serving a life sentence, however at a medical facility because of his many infirmities, benevolent treatment indeed.
Rahman is perhaps the perfect case illustrating the degree to which this WH has been rolled by Islamist pressure groups.
For example, the State Dept. recently gave an Egyptian member of the designated terrorist group, Jama'a al-Islamiya [the group led by Rahman in Egypt before he was deported] clearance to travel to the U.S., whereupon despite his publicly declared FTO membership, he was permitted to pitch "senior level" WH team members on the idea of freeing the convicted terrorist Rahman, presumably as a gesture of good will.
It goes deeper than that - in September Mr. Obama has made plans to roll out the red carpet for Mohammed Morsi, the president elect of Egypt and a top official in the MB. This is an unprecedented action granting legitimacy to a government whose first order of business is to "reconsider," Egypt's long standing peace treaty with Israel. It also has the effect of enhancing the stature, especially in the Muslim world, of an ideology that has been devoted for the better part of 80 to promoting a fundamentalist Islamic revolution by whatever means necessary. It's very difficult not to conclude that the administration is actively engaged in promoting the Ikhwan's goals.
The centerpiece of Mr. McCarthy's presentation dealt with, absent any suggestion of guilt, allegations that the family of Mrs. Clinton's Assistant Chief of Staff [Huma Abedin] appears to have had [in the case of her father] and now maintain [in the case of Abedin's mother Dr. Saleha Abedin and her brother] substantial ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and/or its front organizations. These relationships have been maintained over a very long period of time and therefore do not appear to be a passing dalliance.
In other circumstances such a major announcement - suggesting the possibility of a serious national security breach - would have injected the story more fully into the national consciousness and the presidential contest.
To a certain degree the most rabid members of left, their media assassins, did take up the hue and cry, mainly charging...what else...bigotry and Islamophobia, but the MSM looked the other way...it wasn't even pushed by MoveOn. It was however mentioned by some of the Sorosbot websites, aside from the crazies in Berkeley.
The news didn't register even a ripple within the Romney camp.
That's probably best understood as being the result of a tactical decision...too hot....don't want to go there. Perhaps this is understandable given the direction this race is taking, what with the scorched earth campaign being directed by the WH.
Already the "charges" are as ridiculous as they are irresponsible lies.
Mindful of Obama's early intensive training as an Alinsky disciple, his opponent must be "fixed," "pinned" and then "killed." Why give these people, so the thinking might go another weapon? Already the WH is suggesting that Mr. Romney is a murderer, felon, tax cheat, animal abuser and "vulture" capitalist. Re that last tag, Warren Buffet might be able to provide some mirthful insight, assuming he isn't out on a plundering safari right now.
Ignoring the candidates - we do note here that President did make some remarks regarding Ms. Abedin at his annual Iftar dinner - the feast celebrating the breaking of the Muslim fast during Ramadan, there are many explanations regarding how the media, political parties, radio talkers and activists dealt with this issue.
The first that comes to mind is that that as far as the cable Goliath, Fox News is concerned, this and related topics simply scare the hell out of them. It is always uncomfortable to observe Bill O'Reilly, who has a solid background as a hard hitting real journalist, puts on two sets of kid gloves whenever a member of CAIR is invited to appear. This despite CAIR's having been associated with Hamas.Similarly it's been ignored by the nation's major conservative talkers.
Blood in the waters, fear in the air...
On the left, the overwhelming majority of the press conceives its role to act as defenders of this administration regardless of cost, consequence, plummeting circulation and accumulation of debt.
As Rush has often sagely observed, the MSM news industry [such as it is] is the one business sector which has no interest in generating sufficient revenue to be independent, nor does it seem concerned that the majority of its potential viewer base won't tune in because the MSM's leftist bias is so clearly displayed.
So the MSM Fourth Estate is heavily invested in the President's reelection and are largely responsible for putting him in office in the first place.
It must be allowed though that the Obama/media team [which did indeed run a brilliant if shamelessly deceitful campaign] had considerable help in this mission provided by the hapless, increasingly unstable Senator John McCain, who unfortunately is veering even further out of orbit.

Over the last few months McCain has abruptly shifted his strong position on the Muslim Brotherhood. Where not too long ago he was a vigorous critic of the group, shuddering at the thought of it ever coming to power in Egypt, he has reversed course, now viciously assailing members of his own party who have made entirely proper inquiries - Congressional Letters of Inquiry - through proper channels regarding the same allegations as were detailed during the McCarthy presentation.
Mr. McCain is now hopelessly damaged goods because of his calculated, across the aisle, chummy relationship with Secretary of State Clinton. A few months ago, this wasn't much of an issue - just McCain being McCain - but when Mr. McCarthy and others, significantly Frank Gaffney of the Center for Security Policy, stepped to the fore, pointing out the impropriety of a completely unvetted Huma Abedin serving in such a highly sensitive position.
McCain's not too artful zigzag makes clear that above all he is a self-aggrandizing, irresponsible dupe.
Despite such antics the reality is that Ms. Abedin would be hard pressed, absent her very long relationship with Mrs. Clinton which has essentially shielded her, 'grandfathered' her past the normal security protocol, to pass even the most cursory background security check, let alone the FBI's "full monte," which is necessarily as invasive as it gets.
Additional information was recently published by Walid Shoebat, himself a former radical Islamist. A week ago he issued a 37 page memorandum on the subject, presenting new details on the matter. Importantly, much of it in Arabic sources, [see Shoebat research]
Preceding conjecture aside, we believe that something larger is at work here though seldom discussed [outside of "rightist" intellectual circles - that being the nexus between the hard/neo-Marxists and the IslamoFascists - in David Horowitz' apt coinage, "the Unholy Alliance."
This partnership of sorts [the parties disagree on the most basic of issues] is based upon on the age-old dictum that the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
The goal of both is the overturning of American society, but the results intended out of phase with each other.Given this predilection still the leftist major media avoided the subject, perhaps they didn't want to call attention to it and thus make the information potentially viral.
Underlining the media's general reticence to examine the Brotherhood, its roots, goals, impact and the like, likewise, there have been very few "serious" media probes of the MB's American front groups, despite there being undeniable proof that they exist in large numbers.
The notable exception here was a groundbreaking article courageously published in 2004 by the Chicago Tribune, which notes in part that the Muslim Students Association, which has chapters on nearly every major American college campus, is one of the Muslim Brothers creations, "While the U.S. Brotherhood was influential from its beginning---in 1963 it helped establish the Muslim Students Association, one of the first national Islamic groups in the U.S.--Elkadi thought the group could expand its reach." But there is a larger and in many ways more serious issue floating around all of the give and take on this matter [regardless of the paucity of coverage] and that involves a deep cultural problem that has spread through the West over the past 100 or so years.
At this level, the most basic challenge facing America and Europe, the loss of confidence in the culture which has provided both the highest standard of living in history, but as a byproduct made America powerful enough to have served as the arsenal of democracy, numerous times pulling our European forbears out of the jaws of totalitarianism. In many quarters this inability to take pride in the West's accomplishments is accompanied by a deep sense of shame - an inferiority complex - about our history, traditions and even our basic organizing principles.
A significant byproduct of this state of affairs is very basic; in large measure, the West is unwilling to defend itself against a more aggressive, culturally ascendant - read Muslim - world.
It is also evidenced and fueled by the wide institutional acceptance [near devotional in a religious sense] to a pathological form of multiculturalism which is ruthlessly enforced. Another chief component of this ideology [which is rooted in Marxism] is the of our long tradition of American exceptionalism1
This is the pervasive stifling environment in which America's editorial boardrooms operate.
Some examples:
Guidelines have been drafted by trade groups representing journalists on these matters including such august bodies as the, Society of Professional Journalists, which have rather successfully blindered the press when writing about "sensitive," subjects, of which there are many.
- Refusing to identify the perpetrators of often heinous crimes by their ethnicity.
- Abusing the language by calling illegal aliens, undocumented workers, though many of them are on some form of government assistance and have no intention of working.
- Banning of any linkage between religion and acts of barbarism.
Consider the following and note the date, only 3 weeks after the U.S. sustained the worst domestic act of terrorism in its history:
"Diversity - Guidelines for Countering Racial, Ethnic and Religious ProfilingOn Oct. 6, 2001 at its National Convention in Seattle, the Society of Professional Journalists passed a resolution urging members and fellow journalists to take steps against racial profiling in their coverage of the war on terrorism and to reaffirm their commitment to:
Use language that is informative and not inflammatory;
Portray Muslims, Arabs and Middle Eastern and South Asian Americans in the richness of their diverse experiences;
Seek truth through a variety of voices and perspectives that help audiences understand the complexities of the events in Pennsylvania, New York City and Washington, D.C." [source, Guidance: Society of Professional Journalists ]
Putting forth false narratives about the richness and diversity of cultures which haven't displayed much of either for hundreds of years represents fairness? This isn't guidance, rather it's evidence of intentional media bias and journalistic malfeasance. Yet this is the West's operative media tone.The overall effect is one of thought control.
In government this willful ignorance is exemplified by such things as the Department of Homeland Security banning the use of the quite correct and descriptive term, "Islamic terrorism," and in its place substituting remarkably twisted linguistics:
"The program's overall goal is to better prepare buildings and infrastructure to recover from manmade...disaster events such as explosive blasts; chemical, biological, and radiological (CBR) agents..." [source, DHS website High Performance and Integrated Design Resilience Program.]
In the secular religion of the left, this is cannon law and its violation constitutes the equivalent of a mortal sin. In practice such transgressions are punished by labeling the offender a racist, bigot, homophobe...or Islamophobe.Imagine some future breathless talking head announcing that manmade disaster Mohammed has leveled DC.
As a result, it has become ideologically unforgivable to judge other cultures by Western standards. Doing that would involve making a qualitative determination upon which would follow a judgment that some cultures are inferior to ours.This conclusion however in the real world, outside the leftist cubicle, would not be made on the basis of some inward sense bigotry, because it would be based upon said cultures or societies denying the existence of what we take as self-evident, basic human rights and freedoms, most of which are notated in our Bill of Rights, and which used to imbue every fragment of this society.
This is the ugly bludgeon which the left has successfully used as a battering ram to rape, pillage and burn its way to the seat of power.
This is Mr. Obama and his cohorts' buckler and shield.
The Italian Communist theoretician, Antonio Gramsci, in the early part of the 20th century, identified the process of cultural transformation, which is entirely what the left is about, as "marching through the institutions," slowly taking over the mechanisms whereby culture is created and molded; the print and electronic news media, the arts, the law, the universities, government, organized religion...nothing that contributes to the nature of a society is left untouched by this process.
When this happens we are fully in line with Dostoevsky's contention, a truism it seems, that if God does not exist, then everything is permitted.
This is a rejection of revealed truth, of immutable moral precepts which originate at a level above man's existence. Under this construction both Judaism and Christianity entirely lose their ability to provide guidance in human affairs.
Why not kill, or covet your neighbors wife or goods. Why set aside a time of contemplation of things larger than yourself?
If there is no ultimate set of precepts upon which actions may be judged and evaluated, then all bets are off - which is precisely we find ourselves - stranded, operating upon principles concocted out of whole cloth largely by European philosophers and transplanted to our shores by various methods.
One of these was the wholesale emigration of hand selected European intellectuals who fled pre World War II Europe and were grabbed up by academia.

This instant professoriate was almost uniformly "progressive" in its ideology and ultimately served establish the imprint of neo-Marxism on higher education.Successful cultures are not naturally inclined to partake of such a feast because it is based upon suicidal intent.
For the much of the political right this presents a quandary - they appear to be short sighted and have little grasp of cultural dynamics. As a result they unknowingly risk losing the society over the fear of contemptuous charges of bigotry rather than demonstrating that often those hurling these verbal grenades are the true bigots.
The only defense against these efforts to abridge First Amendment rights is to become entirely comfortable with such specious charges if need be and not be deterred.
The real import of this tactic is that it means that you have drawn blood in this very real battle.
These are the charges most feared by not only mainstream GOP types but many who are genuinely conservative in the sense used by the Founding Fathers, preserving tradition because it has not only been produced in an organic manner, one block built upon another over the ages, but simply because it works and competing philosophies which preach some manner of utopian "master planned" design, always meet the same demise, piles of skulls, ovens of death, Gulags of unbelievable brutality.
The ghost of Neville Chamberlain is writ large here.
