20,000 Libyan Missiles Go Missing

September 28, 2011

September 27, 2011 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - We reported on these pages [see, Libyan Shoulder Fired Missiles Already In Jihadist's Hands?, PipeLineNews.org, http://www.pipelinenews.org/index.cfm?page=libya8242011101%2Ehtm] a month ago, that the threat of Libya's stockpile of 20,000 missiles [ground to air and air to air] ultimately falling into the hands of North African based jihadists was such a distinct possibility that it might have already taken place at the time of that writing.

With the country now in complete turmoil and absent a significant U.S. ground presence, the possibility of corralling the shoulder fired missiles is impossible. In fact there is reason to suspect that the most advanced missiles are already in the hands of North African al-Qaeda operatives.

"...al-Qaeda's offshoot in North Africa has snatched surface-to-air missiles from an arsenal in Libya during the civil strife there, Chad's president said in an interview to be published March 28.

Idriss Deby Itno did not say how many were stolen, but told the African weekly Jeune Afrique that he was '100 percent sure' of his assertion.

'The Islamists of al-Qaida took advantage of the pillaging of arsenals in the rebel zone to acquire arms, including surface-to-air missiles, which were then smuggled into their sanctuaries in Tenere..." Today, multiple sources are reporting that Libya's rocket arsenal has disappeared in the tumult ensuing from Team Obama's ill-planned military adventurism. [see, Nightmare in Libya: 20,000 Surface-to-Air Missiles Missing, ABC News, http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/nightmare-libya-20000-surface-air-missiles-missing/story?id=14610199]

"U.S. officials had once thought there was little chance that terrorists could get their hands on many of the portable surface-to-air missiles that can bring down a commercial jet liner.

But now that calculation is out the window, with officials at a recent secret White House meeting reporting that thousands of them have gone missing in Libya."

One can only imagine the incompetence on display during the high level intel briefings which led this administration conclude that Libya's weaponry could be secured in the wake of the Ghadafi regime.

Noting the extraordinary efforts being taken by US based jihadis to secure just a few shoulder fired missiles, the thought of thousands of them showing up on the terror black market is a shocking prospect, giving the al-Qaeda's of the world a force multiplier of untold proportions.
