Campells Soup Listed As Sponsor of Radical Islamist Conference

November 23, 2010

Campells soup has gone halal with the help of the Islamic Society of North America. ISNA is a Saudi funded enterprise which was founded by Muslim Brotherhood affiliate The Muslim Student Association with the help of Palestian Islamic Jihad leader Sami Al Arian..."ISNA focuses heavily on providing Wahhabi theological indoctrination materials to a large percentage of the mosques in North America". http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6178

MIM:Apparently this cooperation with Islamists has gone beyond halal certification. Campells Soup is also listed as a Gold sponsor of radical Islamist Reviving the Islamic Spirit Conference. http://www.revivingtheislamicspirit.net/

As usual he event will feature numerous extremist speakers including Jamal Badawi, Imam Zaid Shakir, Ingrid Mattson and Tariq Ramadan.http://www.revivingtheislamicspirit.net/speakers/speaker-bios.html

MIM:Ingrid Mattson is the former president of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) the organisation which is being touted by Campbells Soup as a "non political Islamic organisation". In fact ISNA had a now defunct Political Awareness Committee (ISNA PAC) which "sought to promote the injection of Muslim values into American political and social institutions [and]was affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood." http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=7596

In a September 2002 interview with PBS, Mattson stated that she did not see "any difference" between Christian leaders criticizing Islam or al Qaeda on the one hand, and Osama bin Laden citing "Islamic theology to justify violence against Americans" on the other. That is, she believed that the Christians were inciting terrorism in a manner not unlike bin Laden."

Mattson formerly served, along with ISNA's past President Muzammil Siddiqi, on the Board of Trustees of the North American Islamic Trust, which has had close ties to both the Muslim Brotherhood and the now-defunct Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development. http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=1470

Here is an excerpt from what Discover the Networks has to say about Jamal Badawi:

"Badawi is a member of the Fiqh Council of North America, the Islamic Society of North America, the Consultative Council of North America, and the Juristic Council of North America. He is also a Board member of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

At one time, Badawi was a Board of Directors member of the Muslim Brotherhood in the United States and a founding incorporator of the Muslim American Society.

In 2004 Badawi issued a fatwa for Islamonline, outlining six different conditions in which a wife may properly be beaten according to his understanding of "Islamic teaching," because, he stated, "there are cases … in which a wife persists in bad habits."

Badawi played a part in a November 2004 fatwa by the International Union of Muslim Scholars decreeing that it was a religious "duty" for all able-bodied Muslims inside and outside Iraq to wage jihad against the American military.http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=1009

An excerpt from Discover the Networks about Zaid Shakir:

"Shakir is known for having expressed his desire to see the United States eventually become -- "not by violent means, but by persuasion" -- a Muslim country ruled by Islamic law. "Every Muslim who is honest would say, I would like to see America become a Muslim country," he said.

In Shakir's view, Muslims cannot accept the legitimacy of the existing American order, because it "is against the orders and ordainments of Allah." "[T]he orientation of the Quran," he explains, "pushes us in the exact opposite direction."

Shakir also appears to embrace 9/11 conspiracy theories. In October 2007 he described the September 11th attacks as having "occurred under dubious circumstances that have yet to be thoroughly examined."http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=974

MIM: Tariq Ramadan is another radical speaker at the RIS conference.

Caroline Fourest, a French specialist on Islamic fundamentalism who has meticulously studied all of Ramadan's writings and speeches, states, in the 2008 book Brother Tariq: the Doublespeak of Tariq Ramadan, that Ramadan, like his grandfather (Hasan al-Banna), promotes rigid fundamentalism and can accurately be classified as "a war leader."

According to Oliver Guitta of The American Thinker:

"Even though Ramadan cannot be charged with terrorism, it is clear that his speeches and tapes broadcasted in a lot of European mosques constitute an incitement to terrorism against the West. He supplies moral support for terrorism, and therefore should be viewed as a very dangerous man, because of the numerous terrorists his views foster.... There is a danger in bringing Ramadan into our Muslim communities, because, with his smooth double language, he might succeed in radicalizing the Muslim community, while charming our naïve Left, as he did so successfully in France." http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=1884
