Participants in Canadian Jihad Fest - Ottawa's Just and Sustainable Peace Conference - Stoked With Hard Line Islamists

October 29, 2010 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - As noted by the Investigative Project on Terrorism RCMP Ordered Away from Radical Conference, IPT a "Just and Sustainable Peace," conference which took place yesterday in Ottawa, Canada appears to have been devoted to propagandizing on behalf of Iran's Islamic dictatorship, given the panel's makeup.

So great is the level of concern in the country that according to IPT, "Canada's public safety minister has ordered members of a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) community outreach unit not to attend a conference in Ottawa today featuring Iranian professors closely tied to the Islamic Republic's regime." The event was sponsored by the Green Party of Ottawa [see, http://cmmgreens.ca/node/126, the link to the Green Party announcement is no longer active, though it is available in Google's web archives however].

In examining the conference's participants, the degree to which they reflect the Iranian line is remarkable.

One of them is Dr. Davood Ameri, Director General, Islamic World Peace Forum. [IWPF].

In researching Dr. Ameri we find that the IWPF website is registered giving a Tehran, Iran contact number. The IWPF website's lead article as of this writing is, "US, Zionists main conspirators of sacrilege: Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei on Sunday expressed abhorrence at desecration of Holy Quran in the U.S. and said that the US government must punish those responsible for the great crime to prove its innocence." Another participant is Dr Saeid Ameli who is closely associated with the Islamic Human Rights Commission [IHRC].

According to the IHRC website [http://www.ihrc.org.uk/show.php?id=3717] Ameli, "is Professor and Director of the Institute for North American & European Studies at Tehran University." Ameli has written extensively for IHRC arguing that Islamophobia is endemic in Western culture.

Apparently typical of IHRC's view of peace and justice is its claim that, among others, Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman [source, http://www.ihrc.org.uk/show.php?id=4255] and imam Jamil Al-Amin are "prisoners of faith" [http://www.ihrc.org.uk/show.php?id=3063].

Omar Abdel Rahman is probably better known as the "Blind Sheikh," now serving a life sentence for his part in the first World Trade Center bombing in 1993. IHRC's pitch for Rahman reads in part, "Prisoner of Faith: Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman, USA, 13 September 2007 Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman is the elderly Egyptian sheikh, imprisoned in the US in 1995 under sedition laws last used during American civil war. In a IHRC "Campaign Pack" [http://www.ihrc.org.uk/attachments/5355_PFOmarAbdelRahmanFinal.pdf] Rahman is quoted, " 'I am being tried because of my beliefs in Islam…I am honoured to join those in jail…for a just cause."

Jamil Al-Amin, was born Hubert Gerold Brown - aka H. Rap Brown - and is the notorious 60s era proponent of revolutionary race war against the white majority. In 2002 he was convicted of murdering Alabama policeman Ricky Kinchen and wounding a fellow officer. Al-Amin is serving a life sentence. As IHRC sees it though, ..."Imam Jamil is yet another prisoner of faith who has been imprisoned for the past seven years merely because he spoke out against many injustices prevalent in his society..." IHRC also champions Dr. Sami Al-Arian, now a confessed terrorist.

Dr. Ameli is a professed expert on Islamophobia, defined in much of his writing as just about anything which might reflect poorly on or be seen as being critical of Islam.

Editor's Note: Extreme penalties accruing to criticizing, insulting or besmirching of Islam is a fundamental element of Shari'a, Islamic law. The offense is usually covered under Shari'a's proscription against blasphemy, the penalty for which is death.
It is a standard Islamist practice to define Islamophobia so as to conform to the dictates of Shari'a. The imposition of Shari'a in Western and non-Muslim societies is the ultimate goal of both the violent and the stealth jihadists. Moreover it is the intent [so far partially successful in Europe] to have speech critical of Islam classified as a hate crime, punishable by stiff fines as well as jail time.
The strategy here is to criminalize the West's methods of self defense, equating resistance to the dictates of Shari'a to Islamophobia. Examples of this are not hard to come by, witness the relentless legal persecution of now deceased Italian journalist Oriana Falacci and Holland's Geert Wilders who has been targeted by the Dutch government, despite the reluctance of its prosecutors to go forward with the case.
An egregious example involves Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff who will be tried in an Austrian court next month for "hate speech" for her comments about Islam, which often consisted of her simply reading from the Qur'an [see, Elisabeth's Voice, In Defense of Free Speech].

In a 2003 PowerPoint presentation laden with Marxist jargon, Dr. Ameli argues that the United States is a corrupt power which has a foreign policy based upon domination that is all encompassing. He stipulates that America by its very nature, economically, politically, culturally and in a religious sense can never be anything but an enemy of Islam.

"Why is it that America or Western governments are continually insulting Muslims for not having democracy in Muslim lands? Why always are they encouraging us to establish liberal democracy in our lands because to do otherwise would mean that we are an uncivilised people with a barbaric culture. I feel that there is a connection between the democracy they want us to practice and the imprisonment of faith i.e. the terms of democracy that they put forward for us to follow and the isolation of faith, of religion from society. Another participant in the "Just and Sustainable" conference is Dr. Elham Aminzadeh, Associate Dean, Faculty of Law, Tehran University.
In a 2009 speech on women's rights in Iran [see, http://www.women.gov.ir/en/pages/?cid=371] reprinted on an Iranian government website she stated:

"Iranian women have become a focal point since 1979 Islamic Revolution of Iran is the active participation of women and their pioneering role in the achievement of victory. The Islamic republic of Iran emphasizes the necessity of women's efficient participation in national policymaking. Through the eight-year Iran war, which ended in 1988 Iranian women played a determining role...The advancement of women's role in development of the country and strengthening the family institution are paid special attention to on the twenty year outlook of Iran. The Islamic government of Iran emphasizes its commitment to Implement the legal rules regarding women's rights by encouraging respect and dignity for women at different levels in the family and society during the second decade of the Islamic revolution and period of reconstruction a new institutions such as the women and families' bureau, affiliated to the office of the president was a stepping stone in assessment and implementation of plans on women's issues...

Aminzadeh's claims regarding the place of women in a fundamentalist Islamic society, suggesting that they somehow are in accord with anything approaching a modern definition of women's rights [i.e. full equality] is beyond the pale.
The presence of speakers of this ilk at this faux peace conference demonstrates that outside the confines within which the American media is willing to examine Islam's proponents, lurks a threat which is existential in nature and not likely to respond positively to the type of genteel discourse so often recommended when looking across the chasm between Islam and the West. In such protected venues as the Ottawa Green Party's Sustainable Peace event, claimed moderate Muslims openly display a devotion to a political Islam with its attendant push to make the West Shari'a compliant. This should be of concern to all.
