Naturalized Pakistani Charged in VA Terror Case

October 27, 2010

October 27, 2010 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Farooque Ahmed, 34, a naturalized American citizen of Pakistani origin was arrested today in Virginian on charges that he sought to aid al-Qaeda in attacking DC area metro passengers. He was the subject of a Federal Grand Jury three count indictment.

Farooque thought he was dealing with an al-Qaeda contact instead on an FBI undercover agent when he delivered intelligence [surveillance and photographic] on activity at VA metro stations.

The bust was carried out by the Washington Field Office of the Joint Terrorism Task Force.

The case will be prosecuted by U.S. Attorney Gordon Kromberg as well as Trial Attorneys Joseph Moreno and Paul Casey.

About the case U.S. Attorney Neil MacBride stated, "It's chilling that a man from Ashburn is accused of casing rail stations with the goal of killing as many Metro riders as possible through simultaneous bomb attacks...Today's arrest highlights the terrorism threat that exists in Northern Virginia and our ability to find those seeking to harm U.S. citizens and neutralize them before they can act. We are grateful for the outstanding work of the FBI in detecting and disrupting this plot." Today's terror arrest follows by 24 hours another terror arrest in Hawaii where Abdel Hameed Shehadeh was charged with lying to the FBI about his intent to travel to Pakistan to join the Taliban.
