Wikileak - Why isn't Julian Assange in Custody? Where is Team Obama's Outrage?

August 19, 2010

August 19, 2010 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - It has been nearly a month since Julian Assange and unknown conspirators leaked over 90,000 mostly classified documents [the "Afghan War Diary"] pertaining to the war in Afghanistan and yet - with the main perp already having been self identified - a fully committed leftist and convicted amateur hacker, he remains free to cause further havoc in the waging of an increasingly problematic conflict.

Question: Why aren't extradition proceeding being brought against him?

Question: Where is Eric Holder's vaunted Justice Department?

Where is CIC Obama's outrage?

Where is the media's curiosity?

Yes, of course these are rhetorical questions. There is no smoke and fury on this issue because Mr. Assange might as well be a member of this WH team, his take on the projection of U.S. military power appears to be in complete alignment with that of team Obama. The only reason this president is in Afghanistan at all is because he painted himself into that corner during the 2008 campaign. He doesn't believe in the Afghanistan effort in the slightest and only pursues it with any constancy at all is because he wishes to minimize the effect that a decisive defeat - in the country which spawned 911 - would have on his already shaky legacy.

Assange's leak is unprecedented in U.S. history, consisting of 200,000 pages of documents, the majority of which had been classified and all of which were presumably not intended for public viewing.

By comparison, the 1971 Pentagon Paper leak by Daniel Ellsberg was minor, only 10,000 pages, about 5% of that made public by Wikileaks.

So far the administration's response has been frighteningly benign. The Pentagon's response so far has been typical, they have instituted a "robust" investigation, which more likely than not will simply fade away as the spotlight shifts to other issues. Mr. Holder continues to show far more outrage over Arizona's Maricopa County Sherriff Joe Arpaio than over this extraordinarily serious breach of U.S. national security.

Considering the sheer volume of information that has been maliciously outed and the obvious danger it puts U.S. intelligence resources one might imagine that by now, Congress would be abuzz with special investigations and that fed investigators would be combing the last known whereabouts of Mr. Assange [Sweden] desperately attempting to stop further disclosure.

But it's not going to happen for the simple reason that Mr. Assange is really kith and kin to Mr. Obama, Holder and most of the significant players in this WH. They are brothers in the same ideological army and with this bunch at least, ideology trumps everything.
