9/11 Mosque Gets Go Ahead from New York Landmark Panel

August 3, 2010

August 3, 2010 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - By unanimous vote, a New York City panel has rejected an application for landmark status for the building slated to become the site of a controversial 13 story mosque which is scheduled to open on 9/11/11, the tenth anniversary of the Muslim terrorist attack which killed nearly 3,000 Americans. In its decision, the panel rejected granting landmark status to the old Burlington Coat Factory [in which space the new mosque will occupy] which was severely damaged by the fuselage section of one of the planes used in the 9/11 attacks and which still contains artifacts of that event.

The mosque is a project of the Cordoba Initiative run by Faisal Abdul Rauf, an Islamist who supports making the U.S. Shari'a compliant and who has refused to condemn either Hamas or the Muslim Brotherhood as terrorist organizations.

Even the liberal Jewish group, the Anti Defamation League came out against the building of the mosque near Ground Zero saying that "some legitimate questions have been raised." about the project's funding and, raising further concerns, that those associated with the effort could have links to "groups whose ideologies stand in contradiction to our shared values."

The cost of constructing the mosque has been estimated to be in excess of $100 million dollars and Rauf has refused to disclose the source of the funding, which many fear will be coming from radicals in the Middle East.

Several years ago Imam Faisal Abdul Rauf wrote a book called "What's Right with Islam is What's Right with America" whose title was translated in Malaysian into "A Call to Prayer from the World Trade Center Rubble: Islamic Dawa in the Heart of America Post 9/11."

A special edition of the book was published by two terror-linked organizations according to information provided by Andy McCarthy, the former federal prosecutor who was responsible for putting the "Blind Sheikh," Omar Abdel Rahman away for life - a major terror conviction.

"Now it emerges that a "special, non-commercial edition" of this book was later produced, with Feisal's cooperation, by two American tentacles of the Muslim Brotherhood: the Islamic Society of North America and the International Institute of Islamic Thought...Both ISNA and IIIT have been up to their necks in the promotion of Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood's ruthless Palestinian branch, which is pledged by charter to the destruction of Israel...both ISNA and IIIT were cited by the Justice Department as unindicted co-conspirators in a crucial terrorism-financing case involving the channeling of tens of millions of dollars to Hamas through an outfit called the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development. For the last 15 years, Hamas has been a designated terrorist organization under U.S. law." The 9/11 mosque is a symbol of Islamist triumphalism. Building a 13 story Islamic Center at Ground Zero is a slap in the face to all Americans.

As Andrew McCarthy put it: "The Ground Zero project is a test of America's resolve to face down a civilizational jihad that aims, in the words of its leaders, to destroy us from within." MIM: Daisy Khan is the wife of Islamist Imam Faisal Abdul Rauf who is the driving force behind the 9/11 mosque project.

Daisy Khan on Islamic supremacist mega-mosque at Ground Zero:

"the building came to us, which goes to show that there is a symbolism there, and that there's a divine hand in it.That it's so close to the tragedy, that its close proximity is very symbolic for the fact that we really want to reverse what happened on 9/11."

"So just to meet the needs of the people's, you know, worship needs, we decided to look for a larger building. And actually, the building found us, because it's been abandoned for the last nine years. Just sort of sitting vacant. It was struck by a plane, a piece of the fuselage fell into the building, and it was shut down since then. And it's been vacant for nine years."
