Filibuster Kagan: End This Charade

June 28, 2010 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNew.org - As noted here last week in Kagan's Tolerance of Creeping Shari'a While at Harvard Should Trouble Gays

Drawing upon a line of inquiry developed by Senator Jeff Sessions [R-Al] the Center for Security Policy's Frank Gaffney challenged the suitability of Ms. Elena Kagan - Obama's nominee for the Supreme Court - to serve in that capacity, "Her attitude towards the repressive legal code authoritative Islam calls Shariah and her enabling of efforts to insinuate it into this country." [source, Frank Gaffney, Dir. Center for Security Policy, Courting Shariah, June 21, 2010, http://www.centerforsecuritypolicy.org/p18432.xml]

Kagan's situational ethics were first called into question by Sessions in a floor speech delivered by him on June 16.

"Information has come to light suggesting that Ms. Kagan may...have been less morally principled in her approach than has been portrayed. Around the same time that Dean Kagan was campaigning to exclude military recruiters - citing what she saw as the evils of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell - Harvard University accepted $20 million from a member of the Saudi Royal family to establish a center for "Islamic Studies" and Shariah law.

An Obama State Department report concerning Saudi Arabia and the Shariah law concept noted: 'Under Shariah, as interpreted in [Saudi Arabia], sexual activity between two persons of the same gender is punishable by death or flogging.'

Ms. Kagan was perfectly willing to obstruct the military, which has liberated countless Muslims from the hate and tyranny of Saddam Hussein and the Taliban, but it seems she was willing to sit on the sidelines as Harvard created a center funded by - and dedicated to - foreign leaders presiding over a legal system that would violate what would appear to be her position." [source, ibid]

Bin Talal, the funder of Harvard's thinly disguised domestic jihad center - the Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Islamic Studies Program at Harvard [see, http://islamicstudies.harvard.edu] - is a notorious figure. His offer of $10 million to Mayor Giuliani immediately after September 11, was refused because of his support for Palestinian terrorists.

As widely reported, bin Talal, used telethons held in Saudi Arabia to raise funds to support the families of Palestinian suicide bombers.

For these and a host of other reasons, including preservation of the Second Amendment, we urge the GOP to filibuster Kagan's nomination, it's the right thing to do for the country and not so coincidentally, the right thing to do politically. We certainly don't need another Sonia Maria Sotomayor on the court who abjectly lied during her confirmation hearings, claiming that she believed that the Second Amendment was an individual right, then reversed herself when the opportunity presented itself in the DC gun ban case.

While lying may be a prime qualification for a Democrat nominee to ascend to the high court, we certainly hope that the GOP is capable of setting a higher standard.
