Formerly Banned Islamic Radical Tariq Ramadan Tours US, Speaks at CAIR Event and Congress

April 13, 2010

April 12, 2010 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Tariq Ramadan, the grandson of the founder of Egypt's terrorist Muslim Brotherhood [which created the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas] is now near the end of a speaking tour of American cities.

Ramadan who had previously been banned from U.S. entry by the Bush administration because of terror concerns, was quietly cleared for entry in a little discussed State Department action signed off on by Secty State Hillary Clinton in January. [see, Once barred from U.S., Muslim scholar speaks in Chicago area, http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-met-muslim-scholar-ramadan-20100409,0,4511759.story]

See also Dr. Daniel Pipes' running commentary [Tariq Ramadan Give Up then Tries Again, http://www.danielpipes.org/blog/2004/12/tariq-ramadan-gives-up-then-tries-again] which quotes the State Department's thinking on the subject [excerpted below from the original Washington Post article, no longer archived at the newspaper's website.

"Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has signed orders enabling the re-entry of professors Tariq Ramadan of Oxford University in England and Adam Habib of the University of Johannesburg in South Africa once they obtain required admittance documents, department spokesman Darby Holladay said. Clinton "has chosen to exercise her exemption authority for the benefit of Tariq Ramadan and Adam Habib," Holladay said. "We'll let that action speak for itself." In a prepared statement, Holladay noted the change in U.S. posture since both professors, who are frequently invited to the United States to lecture, were denied admittance after making statements counter to U.S. foreign policy. Both the president and the secretary of state have made it clear that the U.S. government is pursuing a new relationship with Muslim communities based on mutual interest and mutual respect."

Seemingly adding substance to claims that Ramadan is a radical, a blurb carried in the Council on American Islamic Relations [CAIR] newsletter, notes that he addressed an assembly organized by it over the weekend in Chicago.

No mention in the msm's coverage of Ramadan's address to CAIR was any mention of the fact that the group was named as an unindicted co-conspirator in the United States' largest Hamas terror fundraising prosecution - U.S. vs. Holy Land Foundation et al.

A piece in the San Francisco Examiner however carried the following about Ramadan, "...In 2009, a university in The Netherlands terminated Ramadan as a result of his extremism and for his work for the Islamic Republic of Iran, currently pursuing nuclear weapons and financing terrorism worldwide...According to The Investigative Project, Judicial Watch and other U.S. organizations, Professor Ramadan told his students that the London subway bombers were justified in acting out against their oppressors because the "British government is helping Iraqi people to be killed." Given this administration's twisted notion of outreach to the Muslim world, Ramadan's scheduled lecture to members of Congress today is altogether fitting.
