ANTI-HATE GROUP TO CALL FOR DAVIE, FL COUNCILMEMBER'S RESIGNATION

GROUP WANTS REMOVAL OF TERROR-RELATED STREET SIGN AND APOLOGY FOR ANTI-SEMITIC STATEMENT

(Davie, FL) Americans Against Hate (AAH), the anti-bigotry, terrorism watchdog group, will be holding a demonstration outside the Davie, Florida Town Council tomorrow to call for the removal of a terror-related street sign and the resignation of a Davie Councilmember.

The sign, an Adopt-a-Street sign located in Davie outside a number of educational institutions, was given to the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), an organization that the United States Justice Department has shown to be affiliated with the terrorist group Hamas.

In 2007 and 2008, CAIR was named a co-conspirator for a federal trial dealing with the financing of millions of dollars to Hamas. According to the FBI, CAIR was part of an umbrella organization for Hamas-related groups in the U.S. led by then-global Hamas leader Mousa Abu Marzook.

The sign contains both Broward County's and the Town of Davie's logos on it. CAIR's full name is clearly shown, as well. Broward County says that the responsibility falls on Davie to remove or not to remove the sign.

The Davie Councilmember in question is Susan Starkey. Last month, in front of a group of people, which included an AAH member, Starkey defended CAIR, stating that the sign would not be removed because the FBI has a working relationship with the organization. Her statement has been proven false, as the FBI has recently cut ties with CAIR. That information was sent to Starkey and was ignored.

As well, in front of that group, Starkey complained that "Jews are trying to convert everybody."

AAH Chairman Joe Kaufman stated, "Councilwoman Starkey's lack of judgment regarding the security of Davie's citizens and her apparent animosity towards members of the Jewish faith, many of which make up Davie's community, make her unfit to govern those citizens. We therefore will be calling for her resignation tomorrow."

When: 6:00-7:00 PM, Wednesday, January 6, 2010

Where: Davie Town Council, located at 6591 Orange Dr., east of S. University Dr. and west of the Ronald Reagan Turnpike

All are invited to attend. American flags and signage will be provided by Americans Against Hate.

Joe Kaufman is available for interview. E-mail: [email protected].
