Netherlands, A Nation In The Grip Of Stockholm Syndrome

Dutch Journalist, Raped By Taliban Defends Treatment

By BEILA RABINOWITZ

May 28, 2009 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Dutch journalist Joanie de Rijke has just published a book entitled "In The Hands of the Taliban " in which she recounts being repeatedly raped by Taliban Commander Ghazi Gul after being kidnapped together with her translator in 2008.

She was only released as a result of her magazine paying a ransom.

In an interview about her ordeal de Rijke demonstrated understanding for her captors and her rapist in which she, "asked for understanding for the Muslim fighters who kidnapped her. 'I don't want to paint the Taliban as monsters. I am also not mad at Ghazi Gul. He had after all allowed me to live.'" The matter seemed custom made grist for a parliamentary debate in which MP Geert Wilders, the leader of Holland's Party for Freedom, was excoriated when he mentioned the de Rijke matter as an example of leftist dhimmitude towards Islamists.

In an article entitled "House furious about Wilders rhetoric" the Volkskrant reported that, "Wilders used the rape of the journalist Joanie de Rijke by the Afghan Taliban leader as symbol of the 'moral decay of the leftist elite'. She showed understanding for the terrible deed and got tea and cookies too' said Wilders in the Lower House. ' The whole of the Nederlands elite is suffering from the Stockholm- syndrome. The only moral gauge is that we don't step on Muslim toes."
