May 21, 2009 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Law enforcement has disrupted a plot in New York to bomb two synagogues and shoot down National Guard aircraft. Four Muslim men were arrested three of whom had converted to Islam while in prison. The perps were identified as James Cromitie, David Williams, Onta Williams and Laguerre Payen.
According to Reuters, "The FBI and New York police arrested the four Muslim men on Wednesday night after they planted what they believed to be explosives in two cars -- one parked outside each synagogue -- and planned to head to an air base with what they thought was an activated stinger surface-to-air missile." New York Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly stated that the four plotters had intended to commit jihad and were motivated by events in Afghanistan and Pakistan and that in their opinion it, "would be alright," if Jews were killed in the planned bombings.
During court proceedings today U.S. prosecutor Eric Snyder stated that "These are extremely violent men. They pose an extreme risk of danger to the community. These people were eager to bring death to Jews."
So far there is no indication that those arrested had any direct links to al-Qaeda.
The planned attack seems to be the most serious effort ever made in the United States to target American Jews, a group which has up to this point, not universally adopted a tough stance on the war on Muslim terror. In an article entitled "A History of Muslim Terrorism against Jews in the United States" Middle East historian Dr. Daniel Pipes wrote that "Even though most Jews resist acknowledging it, the Muslim threat is changing Jewish life in the United States.
