Duka Brothers Get Life In Prison For Ft. Dix Muslim Terror Plot

April 28, 2009 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - U.S. District Judge Robert Kugler today sentenced Dritan, Eljvir and Shain Duka to life in prison for conspiring to wage jihad against military personnel at the Ft. Dix military base located in New Jersey.

The three brothers along with two accomplices [Mohamad Ibrahim Shnewer and Serdar Tatar] were convicted in December 2008.

The Dukas are illegal immigrants, natives of Albania.

The defendants were arrested on May 7, 2007, in Cherry Hill as Dritan and Shain Duka were meeting a confidential government witness. They believed the witness would supply them with four automatic M-16 rifles and three semi-automatic AK-47 rifles which were to be used in the planned attack on Ft. Dix.

About the case, the prosecution stated:

"These men planned, trained and ceaselessly talked unambiguously about their intention to ambush and kill U.S. soldiers…The word should go out to any other would-be terrorists of the homegrown variety that the United States will find you, infiltrate your group, prosecute you and send you to a federal prison for a very long time."

In his sentencing statement, Judge Kugler noted the severity of the defendants' crimes, saying that nothing has a more severe effect on society than terrorism.

The Duka brothers each made long, disjointed statements proclaiming their innocence, alleging that they were victims of a government campaign of "lies" and deception, with Eljvir stating that, "Me and my brothers are innocent." http://www.pipelinenews.org/index.cfm?page=dukaid=4.28.09%2Ehtm
