Hitler Predicted Holocaust As Early As January 30, 1939

By EMERSON VERMAAT

January 30, 2009 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - "Today, I will once more be a prophet. If the international finance-Jewry inside and outside Europe should succeed in plunging the nations of the world into a world war yet again, then the result will not be the bolzhevization of the earth, and thus the victory of Jewry, but the annihilation of the Jewish race in Europe."1

This gloomy prediction was made by Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler (1889-1945) in a spectacular speech to the German parliament, the so-called "Reichstag", on January 30, 1939. A hysterical applause followed the delivery these menacing remarks. Among those who applauded was Reichstag President Hermann Göring – situated in the President's chair just above Hitler.

It is now precisely seventy years ago that this event occurred, and it was the first time that the so-called "Führer and Reich Chancellor" announced that the "Jewish race" would be annihilated. Hitler's Reichstag speech of January 30, 1939, has often been quoted in history books on the Third Reich and the Holocaust. Less well known, however, is the fact that Hitler publicly repeated his doomsday prophecy six times: on January 30, 1941, January 30, 1942, February 15, 1942, September 30, 1942, November 8, 1942 and February 24, 1943. (He also publicly said his warnings on the destiny of the Jews were "prophetic" - obviously, he regarded himself as a kind Messiah or prophet.)

Why did Hitler choose that cold winter day of January 30, 1939, as the first occasion to announce "the annihilation of the Jewish race in Europe"? It was because this very day marked the sixth anniversary of the Nazi takeover in Germany. It was on January 30, 1933, that Hitler became Germany's Federal ("Reich") Chancellor.

Hitler was a hysterical anti-Semitic fanatic who had written a book called "Mein Kampf" ("My Struggle") in 1925/26. His "National Socialist Workers Party"(NSDAP) really began to make an impact only after the 1929 crash on Wall Street and the subsequent economic crisis resulting in mass unemployment in Germany and many other countries. Hitler, presented by the Nazis as "our last hope" ("unsere letzte Hoffnung"), appealed to the crisis-stricken German people promising the poor and unemployed jobs and money. The October 1929 financial meltdown followed after the credit bubble of the 1920s. 2 Hitler blamed "Jewish capitalism" for the crisis.

On January 30, 1933, the Nazis were jubilant. Their "Führer" (=leader) and Messiah had finally been appointed Federal Chancellor. By the summer of 1933, Hitler and his Nazi Party had transformed Germany into a single party dictatorship. Six years later the Führer predicted the destruction ("Vernichtung") of the "Jewish race" in Europe. And he did repeat this threat twice on two other anniversaries of the Nazi takeover: January 30, 1941 and January 30, 1942. This shows that Hitler himself regarded the annihilation of the "Jewish race" as an essential part of the Nazi program and agenda. Indeed, this was his core business, possibly the real reason why he began wage war against the rest of Europe. The Nazi plans for Europe were Germanization, enslavement and extermination of Jews and other "undesirables". It was a war against civilization and dignity.

In his book "Mein Kamp" Hitler wrote that it would have been far better if "twelve or fifteen thousand of these Hebrew corrupters of the people had been held under poison gas" during World War I (1914-1918). Instead, this was the fate of "hundreds of thousands of our very best German workers in the field."3 (The use of poison on the battlefield during World War I was not uncommon, and Hitler himself, who fought in World War I, had to be hospitalized after one of these poison gas attacks.)

Although Hitler's January 30, 1939, Reichstag speech as well as subsequent reiterations were public speeches, few people in Europe and America really took notice of them - unfortunately. (Many leading politicians and statesmen also ignored Hitler's "Mein Kampf" – and they often did so at their own peril.) . For example, William Shirer, one of the most brilliant foreign correspondents in Berlin, did not make any entry into his "Berlin diary" on that very important day. 4 One year later, on January 30, 1940, Shirer noted: "Hitler made an unexpected speech at the Sportpalast tonight on the occasion of the seventh anniversary of the Nazis taking over power. I had no burning desire to attend." 5 To be sure, Hitler did not make any reference to the annihilation of the Jews on that day. But he did not fail to do so precisely one year later, again in that same Berlin Sport palace. And by that time Shirer had already left Germany – unfortunately. The Second World War had broken out on September 3, 1940, after the Nazi invasion of Poland just three days before. On January 30, 1941, Hitler referred to his previous statement in the Reichstag which he erroneously (or deliberately?) dated September 1, 1939 (the day he invaded Poland):

"Not to be forgotten is the comment I have made in the Reichstag, on September 1, 1939 (actually January 30, 1939), that if the world were to be pushed by Jewry into a general war, the role of the whole Jewry in Europe will be finished. Today, they (the Jews) may still be laughing about (that statement), just as they laughed earlier about my prophesies. The coming months and years will show that I was right once again." 6

Göring's secret letter on the "Final Solution of the Jewish Question"

The year 1941 was a crucial year for the Nazi planners who intended to exterminate the Jews. On May 20, 1941, Field Marshall and Airforce Commander-in-Chief Hermann Göring referred to the "doubtless imminent final solution" ("zweifellos kommende Endlösung"). 7 This was probably the first time that a high ranking Nazi used the sinister term "Endlösung" or "Final Solution". It was only one month later that Göring wrote a highly secret letter Reinhard Heydrich, the notorious chief of the German secret police and security service, saying, inter alia:

"In completion of the task which was entrusted to you in the Edict of January 24, 1939, of solving the Jewish question by means of emigration or evacuation in the most convenient way possible, given the present conditions, I herewith charge you with making all necessary preparations with regard to organizational, practical and financial aspects for an overall solution ('Gesamtlösung') of the Jewish question in the German sphere of influence in Europe. In so far as the competencies of other central organizations are affected, these are to be involved. I further charge you with submitting to me promptly an overall plan of the preliminary organizational, practical and financial measures for the execution of the intended final solution ('Endlösung') of the Jewish question." 8

Initially, the Nazis planned to emigrate as many Jews as possible - even to a place like Madagaskar! It was sometime in 1941, however, that Hitler personally ordered the physical extermination of the Jews. Göring's letter to Heydrich had been drafted by Heydrich's assistant Adolf Eichmann, an expert in preparing texts camouflaging real intentions. "Final Solution", was a coded term meaning extermination. The Nazis would also continue to speak of "resettlement" ("Umsiedlung"), meaning mass deportations to the ghettos and the death camps. "Special treatment" ("Sonderbehandlung") meant sending Jews (and gypsies) to the gas chambers. It seemed that only Hitler himself openly talked about the "annihilation of the Jewish race", even more so after he had authorized the measures to be taken to realize this evil and demonic plan.

Thus, on January 30, 1942, Hitler again referred to his 1939 Reichstag speech saying that "the war will either result in the extermination ('Ausrottung') of the Arian peoples or the disappearance of Jewry from Europe."

"This war is not going to end the way the Jews imagine, namely that the European Arian peoples will be exterminated, but the outcome of this war will be the destruction of the Jews ('Judentum' or Jewry). For the first time, the ancient Jewish rule will be applied: 'An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth'."9

"They will stop laughing altogether"

This was ten days after the "Wannsee Conference" in Berlin where high ranking Nazi officials discussed and authorized detailed plans for the extermination of 11 million European Jews. The conference had been convened by Reinhard Heydrich, chief of the Reich Security Head Office (RSHA) and Adolf Eichmann, a fanatical but highly efficient "Jew hunter". Eichmann was the man chosen by Heydrich to execute and coordinate this unprecedented genocidal program, later known as "the Holocaust". To be sure, the first phase of the Holocaust had already been initiated during the previous year – in 1941, that is. More than 200,000 Jews had been shot by Heydrich's notorious "SS Einsatzguppen" or "SS Operational Groups", bloodthirsty killing commandos which focussed on executing Jews in the months following the German invasion of the communist Soviet Union (June-December 1941; these executions continued throughout the war, though). 10 Moreover, the first 700 Jews had been deported to the death camp at Chelmno in Nazi occupied Poland on December 7, 1941. It was at Chelmno that the Nazis started their program of systematically "gassing the Jews". Indeed, not only was December 7, 1941, the day on which Japan attacked the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor, it also happened to be the first day of the "Final Solution" or Holocaust. 11

By the summer of 1942 all the death camps, Auschwitz-Birkenau included, were fully operational. It was no coincidence, therefore, that Hitler reiterated his threat to exterminate the Jews (but unfortunately even fewer people in the West took notice now). On September 30, 1942, he ominously said:

"Once, the Jews have been laughing at my prophecies. I don't know whether they are still laughing or whether they are now laughing on the other side of their face. But I can assure you now once again: They will stop laughing altogether - anywhere. And these my prophecies will come to pass also."12

And November 8, 1942, Hitler stated that the "National Socialist prophecies" were no idle threat. Again, he referred to his Reichstag speech of January 30, 1939, adding:

"I am a prophet and people have been laughing at me continuously. But very many of those who laughed previously do not laugh anymore and those who are still laughing today perhabs won't do so in the near future. This fact will be known throughout Europe and the rest of the world."13

This was a clear reference to the many Jews who had already perished in the death camps. Hitler knew what was going on in the death camps.

Nazi Propaganda Minister Goebbels and "SS-Reichsführer" Himmler

Nazi Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels was also very well informed about the death camps and the gassing of Jews. His Propaganda Ministry published a widely distributed poster showing a quote from Hitler's September 30, 1942 speech: "THEY WILL STOP LAUGHING ALTOGETHER - THE JEWS." And on March 27, 1942, in his personal diary, Goebbels referred to "the prophecy of the Führer":

"A punishment is being meted out to the Jews that is indeed barbaric but that they however completely deserve. The prophecy the Führer gave to them should they bring about a new world war is now beginning to be realized in the more frightful manner. One cannot allow any sentimentality in these matters. (...) The Führer is the steadfast champion and spokesman of a radical solution, which this situation demands and which therefore appears to be unavoidable. (...) Jewry has nothing to laugh about."14

In June 1942 Goebbels wrote in the Nazi paper "Das Reich" that the Jews "were pursuing in this war a sacrilegious game, and they will pay for it with the extermination of their race in Europe and perhabs even beyond Europe as well." 15

Hitler's infamous 1939 Reichstag speech was also quoted by SS-Reichsführer Heinrich Himmler in a secret speech delivered in 1944. Himmler said that "the Jewish question" in Germany and the occupied territories had now been solved. 16 He meant to say that the extermination program had now (nearly) been completed.

A year before, in 1943, Himmler said: "It will not take long for us to get rid of the lice." ("Wir sind bald entlaust."). "There are still only 20,000 lice in Germany, but soon these will be dead, too." 15 The "lice", of course, were the Jews. It was in Auschwitz that Himmlers SS used the poison gas "Zyklon B", normally a product designed as a fumigant for the purpose of pest and vermin control. Jews were seen by leading Nazis as "Ungeziefer" (vermin) to be eliminated in gas chambers camouflaged as huge shower rooms. These defenseless victims of the Nazis were told that they just needed a shower to get rid of their lice.

Himmler told his followers in 1943 not to be too sentimental by sparing women and children. It was better to kill all of them, otherwise the children of these Jews will later seek revenge. "It was a very hard decsion to take - to decide that this people should be eradicated from the face of the earth," Himmler said. 18 In another speech he referred to those mass killings as "a page of glory in our history which has never been written and never is to be written." 19

Serious warnings about Holocaust ignored by British and Americans

As we indicated above, Hitler's repeated threats to annihilate Europe's Jews were largely ignored by many who should have taken heed at the time. It was on August 1, 1942, that Gerhart Riegner, the representative in Switzerland of the World Jewish Congress, learned from a leading German industrialist that Hitler had ordered the extermination of all Jews in Europe. Riegner's German source had proven to be reliable on previous occasions. Riegner learned, among other things, that "ways of extermination are being discussed including the use of prussic acid" (Zyklon B). When Riegner passed this information on to the British and American governments he encountered disbelief. They demanded more proof. Riegner, who had himself fled from Nazi Germany, said his source was absolutely reliable. 20 A British member of parliament named Sidney Silverman asked British Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden for a parliamentary debate on German atrocities. But Eden responded: "I don't see why the House of Commons should have a debate." 21

Eden should and could have known better. Declassified British intelligence documents show that as early as June 1941 the "Government Code and Cypher School" (GCCS) at Bletchley, which decoded and analyzed secret German coded messages, was aware of Nazi mass executions of Jews. In 1942/43 there were British intelligence reports about daily killings in the concentation camps of Auschwitz, Dachau and Buchenwald. On August 24, 1941, British Prime Minister Churchill referred in a radio speech to "thousands of executions, an unprecedented crime." 22

On July 7, 1942, the "New York Times" carried a report stating that more than one million Jews had been exterminated. The allies were urged to persecute the Nazis for their crimes. 23

Nazi dictator Hitler did, so it seems, not like the fact that his own warnings went largely unheeded. He felt he was not taken seriously. His "prophecies" regarding the Jews, he said angrily in November 1942, were no idle threat.

Some people might think, there won't be another Hitler. I am not so sure. We should never forget that Hitler came to power after a severe and world wide economic crisis which directly affected the German people. After the defeat of the Nazis in 1945, the demons of anti-Semitism and genocidal policies were not banished, they sought new victims. 24 And they will seek new victims today. The lessons of history can only be ignored at our own peril
