Eboo Patel Again Reveals His Duplicity

July 21, 2008 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - In a July 15 op-ed posted on the ABC News website [see, http://www.abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=5380577&page=1] Eboo Patel, a Muslim da'wa practitioner operating out of Chicago writes, "Driving through central Illinois on a business trip, my wife could not believe what she was hearing on right-wing radio talk shows...Do you know what they're saying about Muslims on the station I'm listening to now?" she asked. "Basically, that we're a bunch of fundamentalists intent on suffocating people of other religions, and the only way to stop us is to get us all to convert to Christianity."

In the course of delivering this non-sourced, anecdotal broadside as fact, Mr. Patel goes on to opine that, he is "not easily offended," a claim undercut a short while later, by his own words.

Patel's roadshow must be understood in proper context, which these authors provided in Eboo Patel, The Media's Newest Da'Wa Darling:

"Though feted in many circles as one of the rising "moderate Muslim" voices, from his pulpit in the Washington Post's blog, "On Faith" [see, http://newsweek.washingtonpost.com/onfaith/eboo_patel] Patel routinely proves himself to be offering nothing of the sort, and examining his methodology and ideas reveals all of the undertones which taken together prove Muslim interfaith dialogue to be a fraudulent endeavor.

Patel's world view is familiar to anyone versed in this game. That flawed and disingenuous vision is unfortunately typical of those involved in promoting these Islamic faith propagation dog and pony shows.

  • It rests heavily on a thoroughly specious, Western friendly [couched in terms chosen to ingratiate itself into Judeo/Christian traditional thinking] presentation of Islam that is at odds with historical fact and reality.
  • It posits "Islamophobia" as a root cause of the rift between Islam and the rest of the world.
  • It attacks well-meaning critics of Islam - suggesting they are racists - merely because they raise troublesome issues.
  • This outlook is reflected by Patel's choice of allies, heroes and associates, many of whom are Islamists.
  • Unfortunately for Mr. Patel, his ABC piece does nothing to disprove our core analysis.

Patel is incensed that the New Yorker Magazine, a usually reliable house organ of the left, would caricature Barak Obama, drawing from his numerous dalliances with hard-core revolutionary communists such as Bernadine Dohrn and Bill Ayers to portray him as being a fellow traveler.

Paraphrasing Harry Truman, "the New Yorker cartoon was not unfair, it just told the truth and people like Patel thought that was unfair."

All one has to do to understand the depth of Patel's need to distort reality to accommodate his agenda is to examine his claims in the piece regarding Daniel Pipes, whom Patel and his Islamist ilk continually depict as being Islamophobic.

Patel states, "Claiming that Obama is secretly a Muslim -- a rumor that Daniel Pipes has nurtured through an essay on his Web site..."

The facts of this matter clearly show that Patel's claim is a complete fabrication, as Dr. Pipes has done exactly the opposite, stating, "If I were a Muslim I would let you know,' Barack Obama has said, and I believe him. In fact, he is a practicing Christian, a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ. He is not now a Muslim." [source, http://www.meforum.org/article/pipes/5286]

May we suggest that instead of proving his groundless assertion, Patel is rather displaying the classic signs of anti-Semitism, Pipes being Jewish, that are the hallmark of the Islamist mindset.

Rhodes scholar or not, if this is the quality of Patel's analytical ability perhaps he should be more circumspect, rather than so visibly demonstrating his duplicitous nature. http://www.pipelinenews.org/index.cfm?page=patelid=721.08%2Ehtm
