Dhimmi Archbishop Of Canterbury Bows To Sharia

February 7, 2008 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Claiming that changing British perceptions regarding sharia was important, today the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Rowan Williams, advocated the acceptance of Islamic law, at one point in his speech calling it "unavoidable."

"It seems unavoidable and, as a matter of fact, certain conditions of Sharia are already recognised in our society and under our law, so it is not as if we are bringing in an alien and rival system."

Critics of Williams were quick to condemn his comments, with Alistair McBay speaking for Britain's National Secular Society:

"In a plural society, all citizens are equal under the law and the Archbishop's comments directly undermines this…We have segregated schools, segregated scout groups and even segregated toilets for Muslims, and now the Archbishop says we should have different laws, it's madness. On the one hand religious groups say they want to integrate, but actually they want to segregate."

The controversial Dr. Williams was chosen to lead the Anglican church in 2002 by Tony Blair and has since then gone out of his way to advance a leftist agenda including support for lesbians and gays in the clergy and extreme criticism of American/British foreign policy.

In a recent interview with the British Muslim magazine Emel, he accused the United States of being a worse imperialistic power than Britain was at the height of her world empire.

"It is one thing to take over a territory and then pour energy and resources into administering it and normalizing it. Rightly or wrongly, that's was the British empire did -- in India, for example. It is another thing to go in on the assumption that a quick burst of violent action will somehow clear the decks and that you can move on and other people will put things back together -- Iraq, for example."

In that same interview Williams' criticism of Islamic terror was nonexistent. It is precisely that lack of balance which has prompted critics to dismiss his stewardship of the Anglican church as a disaster.

For example Dr. Peter Mullen, Rector of Saint Michael's Cornhill in London, says of Williams:

"Christians are being beaten up, robbed, illegally imprisoned -- their churches burnt to the ground -- in Muslim countries all over the world...yet all Williams can do is return to his leftie America-bashing. He ought to be ashamed of himself."

If Williams' policy of accepting sharia is followed, rather than serving as an olive branch extended to a "misunderstood" religious minority it will be interpreted as a sign of weakness by the Islamists, proof positive that the West has lost its will to resist and that Christianity, at least as manifested by the Church of England, is so internally contradictory as to be contemptible. http://www.pipelinenews.org/index.cfm?page=sharia2.7.08%2Ehtm
