Amsterdam neighborhood gets radicalisation expert
The Amsterdam district of Slotervaart is hiring an expert who will be specifically engaged with the extremism and radicalisation of the mainly Moroccan community in the neighborhood.
The expert was hired at the request of the district council. The chairman of the district council Ahmed Marcouch (PvdA) (Labor) says that he is worried about all the Moroccan youth who are hate filled and very radical. Radicalisation is becoming an increasingly bigger problem especially in the neighborhood of the Overtoomse Veld in the Slotervaart district.
The problem is significantly manifest, you see it with the youth, you hear it everywhere in the mosques and from parents.I am worried, claims former policeman Marcouch.
"These Moroccan youth look up to people like Mohammed Bouyeri (the killer of filmaker Theo Van Gogh) and Samir Azzouz who both come from the Overtoomse Veld. Family of both Bouyeri and Azzouz still live in the neighborhood."
Action program
The expert who was brought in is also a Moroccan who knows the problem. He will be paid with extra money that was made availablee by the B&W of Amsterdam. The expert, who is selected but has not yet become his work, has to produce an action program at the end of the year.
In this way we want to analyse what we think is going on, which groups and movements are active and what their thought processes are. You can notice something, but if you dont know the problem you cant come with a solution" according to Marcouch.

Het Amsterdamse stadsdeel Slotervaart neemt een deskundige in dienst die zich specifiek zal gaan bezighouden met extremisme en radicalisering onder vooral de Marokkaanse gemeenschap in de buurt.
De deskundige wordt aangesteld op verzoek van de deelraad. Stadsdeelvoorzitter Ahmed Marcouch (PvdA) zegt zich zorgen te maken over de vele Marokkaanse jongens die haatdragend en zeer radicaal zijn. Vooral in de wijk Overtoomse Veld in stadsdeel Slotervaart is radicalisering een steeds groter probleem aan het worden.
In stadsdeel Slotervaart werd vorig jaar oktober een terreurverdachte opgepakt
'De problematiek is significant aanwezig, je ziet het bij jongeren, je hoort erover in moskeeën en van ouders. Ik maak me zorgen,' aldus voormalig politieagent Marcouch.
Deze Marokkaanse jongens kijken op tegen figuren als moordenaar Mohammed Bouyeri en terreurverdachte Samir A., die allebei ook uit Overtoomse Veld komen. In de buurt woont nog steeds veel familie van zowel Bouyeri als A.
Actieprogramma
De expert die in de arm wordt genomen is ook een Marokkaan, die de problematiek kent. Hij zal worden betaald uit extra geld dat beschikbaar is gesteld dor B&W van Amsterdam. De expert, die al wel is geselecteerd maar nog niet is begonnen met de werkzaamheden, moet voor het einde van het jaar een actieprogramma uitbrengen.
'We willen op deze manier analyseren wat we denken waar te nemen, welke groepen en bewegingen er zijn en welke gedachtegangen die hebben. Je kunt wel iets signaleren, maar als je het probleem niet precies kent, kun je ook niet met een oplossing komen,' zegt Marcouch.
