Hartelijk dank voor uw reactie op het interview door Ahmet Olgun met Britte Böhler en Victor Koppe in het Zaterdags Bijvoegsel van 7 januari jl. Het aanbod van reacties die ons bereiken overtreft verre de beschikbare ruimte. Zoals u wellicht gezien heeft, hebben wij in het bijvoegsel van zaterdag 14 januari een tweetal reacties geplaatst; uw brief zullen wij nu niet meer publiceren. Het spijt mij u niet anders te kunnen laten weten. Wél hebben wij uw reactie ter kennisneming doorgestuurd naar de auteur van het artikel.
Hopelijk heeft u begrip voor deze gang van zaken.

Witchhunt?
In the NRC Handelsblad of January 7 (Saturday Supplement) the lawyers Britta Bohler and Viktor Koppe labelled the Hofstadgroep trial a "classic witchhunt".
Unlike both lawyers, I have been present at all the hearings of the Hofstad trial and noticed little of this. In the interview it was said that no questions were posed over the eventual plans of the group, no questions about "the boss" of the group, and about orders for attacks and the purchase of weapons. That is total nonsense.
One of the suspects threw a handgrenade at the police, another suspect encouraged him, and a third suspect was arrested and found in the metro station at Lelylaan with a loaded machinegun with the trigger unlocked.
This was all covered extensively at the trial hearing. When the judges questioned the origin of the weapons or about the plans the suspects and witnesses cited the right to remain silent, skirted the issue, or lied, upon the advice of their lawyers.
I also remember that the judges asked several times about Abu Khaled, ("the boss' of the Hofstadgroep). I understand that Koppe and Bohler are concerned that the preventive detention of their client Zacharia T. and Ahmed H. has not been lifted by the judge. What I don't understand is that they gratuitiously publicise accusations against the judges via the media, and to put pressure on the judges in this way. Their motion to indirectly link the Dutch security services to one of the weapons failed. Earlier Bohler had declared that politicians put pressure on judges in terror cases in order to ensure a conviction. In reality this type of lawyer is putting pressure on the judges by speaking about an "inquistion" and "witchhunt"on television, in the newspaper, and interviews.
I find this a form of contempt of court.

Heksenjacht?
In NRC Handelsblad van 7 januari (Zaterdags Bijvoegsel) betitelen
de advocaten Britta Böhler en Victor Koppe het Hofstadproces als een
"klassieke heksenjacht".
Anders dan beide advocaten ben ik bij alle zittingen van het
Hofstadproces geweest
en heb daar weinig van gemerkt. In het interview wordt gezegd dat er
geen vragen zijn
gesteld over eventuele plannen van de groep, geen vragen over "de baas"
van de groep en over
opdrachten tot aanslagen of aankoop van wapens. Dat is grote onzin.
Eén verdachte heeft een handgranaat naar de politie gegooid, een
andere verdachte
stemde daarmee in, een derde verdachte werd op het metrostation
Lelylaan met
een schietklaar en doorgeladen machinepistool aangehouden. Dat is
allemaal
uitvoerig ter zitting behandeld. Als rechters doorvroegen naar de
herkomst van de
wapens of naar de plannen beriepen verdachten of getuigen zich - op
advies van hun
advocaten - op hun zwijgrecht of ze draaiden erom heen of spraken niet
de waarheid.
Ik kan me ook herinneren dat rechters meermalen vragen stelden over
Abu Khaled ("de baas" van de Hofstadgroep).
Ik begrijp dat Koppe en Böhler verontwaardigd zijn dat de voorlopige
hechtenis van hun cliënten Zacaria T. en
Ahmed H. door de rechter niet is opgeheven. Wat ik niet begrijp is dat
zij in hun blinde via de media wilde
beschuldigingen gaan uiten naar de rechters zelf en op die manier die
rechters onder
druk zetten. Hun actie om de herkomst van een van de wapens te indirect
linken aan de AIVD is
mislukt. En eerder verklaarde Böhler dat politici rechters onder druk
zetten om in terreurzaken toch
vooral tot een veroordeling te komen. In feite zetten dit soort
advocaten zelf de rechters onder druk door
in de TV- en kranten-interviews te spreken over "inquisitie" en
"heksenjacht". Ik vind dit
een vorm van minachting voor de rechter.
