ISIS claims Orlando gay nightclub massacre

The Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist group's official media wing has released a statement claiming credit for the deadly shooting attack at an Orlando, Florida gay nightclub on behalf of the jihadist organization.
In a statement published in the last few minutes, the al-Amaq agency - which functions as ISIS's propaganda and media wing - claimed that "the attack that targeted a nightclub for homosexuals in Orlando, Florida and that left more than 100 dead and wounded was carried out by an Islamic State fighter."
50 people were murdered in the worst shooting spree in American history, and a further 53 were wounded, many of them seriously.
The attack was carried out by a Muslim American named by authorities as Omar Mateen, who swore allegiance to ISIS shortly before carrying out the attack.
ISIS has been encouraging its followers to carry out terrorist attacks throughout the Western world in "honor" of Ramadan, which began last week.
However, despite Mateen's reported pledge of allegiance to ISIS it is unclear at this point whether he acted alone or under orders from ISIS's central leadership. Previous gun rampages carried out on behalf of ISIS - including the 2015 San Bernardino attack - were committed by cells acting independently, with ISIS formally claiming responsibility shortly afterwards.
Even prior to the statement by ISIS's media wing, jihadists took to social media to celebrate and gloat over the attack.
Some ISIS supporters used the hashtag #Orlandoisburning, modeled after a similar hashtag used by ISIS social media accounts following recent terrorist attacks in Paris and Brussels

Acquaintances say that Omar Mateen, the terrorist who murdered 49 people in a Florida LGBT club, was himself not straight.
Ty Smith, a regular at the club, spoke with the Orlando Sentinel about seeing Mateen at least a dozen times. "Sometimes he would go over in the corner and sit and drink by himself, and other times he would get so drunk he was loud and belligerent.
"We didn't really talk to him a lot, but I remember him saying things about his dad at times," Smith added. "He told us he had a wife and child."
Others from the area say that Mateen frequently used Grindr and other apps designed to connect people for romantic or other encounters. One told the Los Angeles Times that he and Mateen used such an app to message each other for a year.
Mateen's father claimed that the shooting was in response to his son's anger over seen two men kissing several months ago.
Omar himself called police during the attack and told them that he was with ISIS. The terror group happily claimed credit for the attack in the aftermath.

The wife of Orlando attacker Omar Mateen has told federal agents she tried to talk her husband out of carrying out the attack, NBC News revealed on Tuesday.
According to the report the wife, Noor Zahi Salman, told the FBI she was with her husband when he bought ammunition and a holster, several officials familiar with the case said.
She also told the FBI that she once drove him to the gay nightclub, Pulse, because he wanted to scope it out.
Mateen opened fire at Pulse early Sunday, leaving 49 dead and 53 injured. 27 seven victims remained hospitalized Tuesday. Six were in critical condition, according to hospital officials who said the death toll was still at risk of rising because one or two of those patients were "profoundly ill."
According to NBC News, authorities are considering filing criminal charges against Noor for failing to tell them what she knew before the brutal attack, but no decision has been made.
She is cooperating with investigators, several officials told the network.
Mateen's father has claimed that the shooting was in response to his son's anger over seen two men kissing several months ago.

I heard Jarir bin 'Abdullah (Praising Allah). On the day when Al-Mughira bin Shu'ba died, he (Jarir) got up (on the pulpit) and thanked and praised Allah and said, "Be afraid of Allah alone Who has none along with Him to be worshipped.(You should) be calm and quiet till the (new) chief comes to you and he will come to you soon. Allah's Apostle replied, "No, unless you want to give alms of your own." And then that man retreated saying, "By Allah! I will neither do less nor more than this." The Statement of Allah: And 'When we have recited it to you (O Muhammad through Gabriel) then you follow its (Qur'an) recital' (75.18) means 'listen to it and be silent.' Then it is for Us (Allah) to make It clear to you' (75.19) means 'Then it is (for Allah) to make you recite it (and its meaning will be clear by itself through your tongue). Afterwards, Allah's Apostle used to listen to Gabriel whenever he came and after his departure he used to recite it as Gabriel had recited it."

Sometimes the Angel comes in the form of a man and talks to me and I grasp whatever he says." Narrated 'Umar bin Al-Khattab:
I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "The reward of deeds depends upon the intentions and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended. So whoever emigrated for worldly benefits or for a woman to marry, his emigration was for what he emigrated for."
