Adnan el Shukrijumah KSM's Designated Sucessor And Al Qaeda Bombing Plotter Killed In Pakistan

Pakistan's military on Saturday said it eliminated Al-Qaeda's global operations chief, Adnan el Shukrijumah, who had planned bombing attacks on trains in New York and London.

Shukrijumah was taken out in a raid in South Waziristan in the country's northwest, a region bordering Afghanistan, reports BBC. Two other terrorists were killed in the Saturday raid according to the Pakistani military, while on the other side one soldier was killed and another wounded.

The "intelligence-borne operation" was conducted in the region's Shinwarsak area bordering Afghanistan according to an army statement; the area is a base for the Pakistani Taliban.

According to the FBI, Shukrijumah was Al-Qaeda's global operations chief, a position which previously was held by Khalid Sheikh Mohammed - infamous for planning the 9/11 attacks.

Shukrijumah was born in Saudi Arabia but lived over 15 years in the US after his father began working at a mosque in Brooklyn. Later the family moved to Florida, and in the late 1990s he is believed to have left for Afghani terrorist training camps.

The senior terrorist was indicted for his part in planning a suicide bomb attack on New York's subway system in 2009, and is also thought to have planned attacks in Panama, Norway and the UK.

America has had tense relations with Pakistan lately over its drone strikes on terrorist targets in the state, as Pakistan is trying to hold peace talks with its local Taliban terror group that has been staging a years-long insurgency.

There have been signs of rapprochement of late, with the nuclear-armed country's army chief Gen. Raheel Sharif recently returning from a week-long visit to the US, which is the first such visit in the last four years.

Likewise, US Congress last Thursday gave $1 billion in operational support to Pakistan's army.
