Nigerian President Jonathan Fires Top Military Brass

January 16, 2014

January 16, 2014 – San Francisco, CA – PipeLineNews.org – As this news source has noted for quite some time, for example,

Boko Haram and Forced Conversion to Islam

Nigeria Continues To Disingenuously Claim That Boko Haram Is On The Ropes

the African nation of Nigeria has been under siege by the Islamic terror group Boko Haram [Shari'a forbids Western education] since at least 2010.

In this period of time the organization has waged a particularly brutal, atrocity laden jihad, attempting to impose the Shari'a on the country.

Despite thousands of deaths, many of them civilians who were butchered like swine, President Goodluck Jonathan [no, that is not a typo] had ordered his military spokesmen to downplay the war and to even suggest that Nigeria was on the verge of destroying the group.

Presumably under pressure from the government, headlines in African newspapers routinely carried inflated body counts of enemy dead, but the violence only increased.

However all of that appears to have changed; over the last 48 hours, Jonathan has fired his military leaders.

"Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan has sacked his military high command, his spokesman Reuben Abati has said. No reason was given but the dismissals come amid growing concern about the military's failure to end the Islamist-led insurgency in northern Nigeria." Whether these actions constitute a new commitment by Jonathan to defeat the terrorists remains a questionable proposition. The president's unexpected actions should however be seen, short term at least, as a necessary precursor to increased action in the field.
