January 8, 2014 – San Francisco, CA – PipeLineNews.org – Senator Robert Menendez [D-NJ] holds a very important position in DC, he's the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
According to numerous reports, Menendez might have more than a bit personal experience regarding "foreign relations" than meets the eye.
The main allegations facing the Senator are:
1. That he might have had "relations" with hookers [possibly underage] in the Dominican Republic, though the current Dem talking points claim that the entire matter was part of an elaborate setup.
2. That he accepted gratuities without reporting them as campaign expenses. He has since made restitution to the tune of nearly $60,000 for junkets to the Dominican Republic which apparently slipped his mind.
3. That he peddled influence on behalf of one or more acquaintances. [for a synopsis of Menendez' "difficulties" regarding these matter, please refer to Dana Milbank's excellent piece, Bob Menendez, senator of the evening , Washington Post].
Please consider the aforementioned information merely background, helpful in establishing the nature of Mr. Menendez' character, such as it may be.
Bob Menendez is in the news for other reasons though. It seems that the Senator has placed a hold on vital military equipment [Apache helicopters] destined for Iraq, which is under intense siege by cadres of al-Qaeda mujaheed.
Sunni jihadists captured the cities of Fallujah and Ramadi recently and beleaguered Iraqi forces are involved in a counter strike, first hoping to retake Ramadi and then the more difficult proposition of driving al-Qaeda out of Fallujah.
During U.S. operations in Iraq – before Team Obama booted it – Fallujah was liberated at great cost – over 100 American lives lost - so the reclaiming of these key cities is of strategic importance as well as for purposes of morale building among Iraq's questionably motivated armed forces.
As result, Menendez is now under a withering assault to release his hold on the military hardware, with the State Department, the Vice President and others now turning the screws on this self-important little man.
To be fair, members of both Houses of Congress have been reticent to provide Iraq's President Maliki with all of the weapons he has requested but the recent surge by the Sunnis has evaporated what opposition there was.
Adding to Menendez' grief, even the usually rock-solid Dem propaganda outfit, the New York Times is savaging him editorially over his actions.
"Senator Robert Menendez was never a distinguished choice for chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the position he ascended to this month by virtue of seniority…" [source, Mr. Menendez's Ethics Problem, New York Times]
So why is Menendez acting this way?
The first and most obvious answer is because he can. The second in probably a little more probative; it's our guess that he is using the desperately needed hardware as a bargaining chip to force an end to the DOJ's investigation of him.
That seems to have the ring of truth to it.
It's what cornered Rats do…
This bloated parasite on the Federal dole is perhaps betraying his culpability in the crimes of which he is suspected by engaging in this game of hardball. In such a confrontation he is a dead man bluffing to save himself.
What he doesn't seem to realize is that this is a game that he can't win. He will eventually be forced to release the Apache helicopters because his position is untenable and his colleagues are quickly turning on him. Menendez has poisoned his own nest and therefore in short order this game will end and a new and very dangerous one - for him - will begin.
When that happens the Senator will find in short order that the Feds don't like being screwed with, regardless of party and the resulting expedited inquiry could rapidly lead to his undoing.
