List of Terrorists to be Released Made Public

Terrorists who killed Israeli hikers, terrorist who swam from Jordan to Eilat in order to murder are among 26 to be released on Tuesday. By Elad Benari First Publish: 10/28/2013, 1:14 AM

The Israel Prisons Service on Sunday night published on its website the list of 26 terrorists who will be freed as part of the latest "gesture" to the Palestinian Authority.

The list was made public 48 hours before the release is to take place, so that the Israeli public can appeal to the Supreme Court against the release. The Court, however, usually does not get involved in the release of terrorists and rejects the appeals.

Among the terrorists on the list one can find two Arabs who shot and killed Israeli soldier Aharon Avidar in Ramallah in February of 1985.

Also on the list is a terrorist who murdered Isaac Rotenberg as he was fixing a floor in Petach Tikva on March 31, 1994. Another terrorist who was involved in the murder was released in the previous round back in August.

Also to be released are two terrorists who murdered Meir ben Yair and Michal Cohen as they were sitting in their car in a forest near Beit Shemesh in 1985.

A terrorist who swam from the port of Aqaba in Jordan to the beach in Eilat, where he murdered Yosef Shirazi, security guard of the Institute for Marine Sciences, will also be released.

The murderers of Leah Almakeis and Yosef Eliyahu, who were murdered while hiking in a forest on Mt. Gilboa in 1985, will be released, as will one of the murderers of Ian Sean Feinberg, a lawyer who was murdered by a group of axe and gun-wielding terrorists in Gaza in 1983. One of Feinberg's murderers was released in the last round.

Earlier on Sunday, a committee of ministers decided that 26 terrorists serving jail sentences of 19 to 28 years will go free in 48 hours.

Five of the terrorists to be freed Tuesday are from Gaza and 21 are from Judea and Samaria.

The decision on which prisoners to release came hours after the Ministerial Law Committee voted down a law, proposed by Bayit Yehudi MK Orit Struk, that would prevent the release of terrorists.

The planned terrorist release and the proposed law have caused tensions between the Bayit Yehudi and Hatnua parties.

Hatnua head Justice Minister Tzipi Livni strongly opposed the Bayit Yehudi's proposed law and had tried to prevent it from even coming up for a vote.

Kol Yisrael radio reported on Sunday that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu had instructed Livni to bring the law to a vote in the Ministerial Committee, then instructed Likud ministers to vote against it, thus burying the law.

Bayit Yehudi Chairman, Economy Minister Naftali Bennett, explained Sunday that the bill his party introduced was not meant at stopping the release of 104 terrorists in the "gesture" the government has decided to make to the Palestinian Authority.

Bennett said that, while disagreeing with the gesture, the members of his party are bound to it as members of the coalition. He explained that the bill was meant to prevent future similar gestures from being made.

Interior Minister Gideon Saar of the Likud lashed out at Bennett earlier Sunday, telling him that if the Bayit Yehudi members find it difficult to abide by government decisions, they should resign.
