U. S. State Dept. Disinformation Campaign Continues: Islamic Jihad Is Legitimate Response To "Economic And Political Needs"

April 24, 2013

By WILLIAM MAYER

April 23, 2013 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - During yesterday's State Department briefing, the subject of a recent attack in Nigeria by the Islamic terrorist group Boko Haram was addressed by Patrick Ventrell, Acting Deputy Spokesperson, in a manner indicative of this administrations twisted thinking regarding terrorism perpetrated by Muslims.

According to Mr. Ventrell, Islamic jihad is caused by government's not addressing long festering local social problems. State's thinking on this is dangerously simplistic in that it implies that absent societal grievances, jihad would not exist.

Below, some of the operative text of yesterday's exchange, see State Department Presser, April 22, 2013.

Q. "...But 200 people have been killed in an attack in Nigeria, and this is really the latest in a string of recent attacks related to Boko Haram. Are you concerned that there's been really an uptick in violence in recent months? And is the U.S. still supportive of President Jonathan's posture that Boko Haram is a group that can be negotiated with?

A. "...Well, thanks for the question, Guy. The United States does condemn the violence that took the lives of so many innocent civilians in Baga Borno state. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of those who died or were injured as a result of these attacks. We support the Nigerian authorities in their efforts to bring the perpetrators of violent acts to justice, and stress the importance of respecting human rights and protecting civilians in all security responses. So we urge all parties to refrain from reprisal attacks..."

Sure Mr. Ventrell, this weasel worded response [a condemnation it is not] to the killing of over 175 villagers in Baga Borno state, Nigeria will strike fear in the hearts of the Boko Haram butchers.

But Ventrell wasn't done making the case proving State's ineptitude...

[continuing] "...But really the context, Guy, here is that we've been very clear that we want them to respond - Nigerian authorities - but want them to do so respecting human rights and in that broader context. So they have to address these vulnerable communities' concerns. They have to do so in not necessarily a heavy-handed way, but in one that is effective and focused on their legitimate economic and political needs in the north as well...our response is that violent extremism requires more than just a security response. So the group as - Boko Haram exploits legitimate northern grievances to attract recruits and public sympathy. So the response should be to address some of those legitimate needs and concerns of the people in the north so that that's not being exploited by this group, who clearly has perpetrated some very awful violence..."

Huh?

These Islamic fanatics engaged in a fire fight with government forces [during a trial cease-fire, please refer to our April 18 piece, Nigeria Starts Process Of Amnesty For Boko Haram Butchers] and as a result the entire village burned to the ground. Many of those killed during the attack were aged and not very mobile and hence were roasted to death in their thatched huts, and yet the State Department seems to be directing much of its ire towards the soldiers whose job it is to end Boko's reign of terror - approximately 3,000 killed over the last 18 months.

Ventrell's carefully constructed response demonstrates that rather than placing the entire blame on the terrorists, State instead conflates the government's response with Boko's Medieval sense of Islamic justice.

But there was a follow-up...

Q. The reported use of rocket-propelled grenades by Boko Haram in this violence is an escalation for them. Is there any concern on the part of the State Department that this might indicate what – a fear that you have expressed before, that Boko Haram may be integrated more with this threat of al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb across the Sahel?

A. " I don't have any particular information on the munitions that were used. But clearly we're concerned about the context of them trying to have deeper ties with other violent extremists throughout the region, and that's something that we're very focused on and watching very closely.

This must be very reassuring to the shaky Nigerian government. The State Department, by this statement, seems to have no idea what really happened in Baga Borno state as anyone who has read the press reports knows that Boko Haram has been using RPGs for some time now, not just in this instance. It should be noted that it was probably these RPGs which started the conflagration.

Lastly we find it completely unacceptable that this [heavily Islamist influenced] administration will not publicly admit what everyone familiar with Boko Haram knows - that it's an al-Qaeda affiliate, so as to "deeper ties," we can't imagine how much more closely bound the two groups could be.

This is the kind of absolute bullshit which is being dished nearly every day by Obama and his lackeys and it's this manure which is consumed word-for-word by the MSM who simply regurgitate it on command because likewise, the press can't bring itself to call a Muslim terrorist...a Muslim terrorist.

It may defy belief but the folks in State [and their boss in the WH] actually think this way, that no matter what level of horror is involved, as long as Muslims are the ones doing the killing, Team Obama will always search for a motivation outside the obvious - Islamic scripture.

Hence, the operative concept, the brutal imposition of the Shari'a, will never be mentioned because it would lay bare as a sham, the entire thrust of this president's foreign policy.
