Morsi And Terrorists Have The Same Goals

'Terrorists and Morsi have Identical Aims'

Tzvi Mazel, former Israeli Ambassador to Egypt, thinks Egypt won't prevent terror from Sinai.

Former Israeli Ambassador to Egypt Tzvi Mazel told Arutz Sheva Tuesday that he does not believe the Egyptian government will take effective action against the terrorists who operate in Sinai.

"We must remember that the person running Egypt today is the Muslim Brotherhood's Mohammed Morsi," he explained. "The Muslim Brotherhood is the group that laid the foundations for today's radical Islam and Islamic terrorism. The Muslim Brotherhood developed a theory that favors a return to 'the good old days' of the prophet Mohammed and establish a Muslim empire. Islamic law would be the constitution and then they would make an effort to conquer the world."

"The terrorists who came to carry out the attack from Sinai were raised upon the Muslim Brotherhood's fanatical theory," he said. "Morsi and the terrorists who carried out the attack have the same ideology and the same goal – to impose Islam on the Middle East and the entire world."

"Will the Muslim Brotherhood become pragmatic? Forget ideology and concentrate on Egypt? I do not believe that will happen. The radical Islamic ideology has been running in the blood of the Muslim Brotherhood for 80 years."

Mazel said that tough effective action by Egypt against the Sinai terrorists is unlikely. "Egypt thinks that Israel is responsible for Sinai and they do not want to take responsibility for what happens in Gaza as they clean up Sinai. If the Egyptians clean up Sinai, [Gaza] will become isolated and under Egypt's responsibility and therefore Egypt would prefer not to do that."

US: Morsi ‘Saying Right Things' after Brotherhood Blames Israel

The Muslim Brotherhood blames Israel for Sunday's terrorist attack, but the US says President Mohammed Morsi "is saying the right things." By Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu First Publish: 8/7/2012, 8:59 AM

The Muslim Brotherhood blames Israel for Sunday's terrorist attack, but the U.S. State Dept. said that President Mohammed Morsi "is saying the right things."

Morsi did not directly blame Israel, leaving that for his party's officials while he vowed to avenge the deaths of 17 Egyptian soldiers killed by a group of approximately 35 terrorists.

The well-planned attack was ended by quick IDF aerial and tank maneuvers that blew up one of the terrorists' vehicles as it sped with suicide bombers towards an Israeli farming community.

Egyptian soldiers also killed several of the terrorists inside its border.

U.S. State Department spokesman Patrick Ventrell, asked at the daily press briefing Monday to comment on the Brotherhood website's statement that the attack "can be attributed to the [the] Mossad, "President Morsi is saying the right things."

Pressed to answer if it is conceivable that the Israeli intelligence services could – would launch an attack on an Egyptian police station?." Ventrell answered, "Doesn't sound right to me."

He repeated previously stated concerns that "the security situation in Sinai is something that we've raised with Egyptian authorities, and added, "We stand ready to assist the government of Egypt as it acts on President Morsi's pledge to secure the Sinai and address the threats of violent extremism and border security."

He did not specify what assistance the United States would offer and declined to explain why Egypt has been unable to maintain security in the Sinai.

"We've seen significant change in Egypt through most of this transition" since the ouster of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, "but in terms of Egypt consolidating itself and moving into its next chapter, there are still some areas that continue to need attention, and the security in the Sinai is one of those."

Muslim Brotherhood Blames Israel for Terror Attack

The Muslim Brotherhood says that the Israeli Mossad was behind the terror attack along the Egypt-Israel border on Sunday night. By Elad Benari First Publish: 8/7/2012, 3:16 AM

The Islamist Muslim Brotherhood, which clinched power in Egypt after the fall of former president Hosni Mubarak, claimed on Monday that Israel was behind the terror attack along the Egypt-Israel border on Sunday night.

Terrorists attacked two Egyptian army posts in the Egyptian part of Rafiah with anti-tank rockets and gunfire, killing 16 Egyptian officers and soldiers. The terrorists then tried to infiltrate into Israel using two stolen Egyptian military vehicles, but were foiled by the IDF.

The Muslim Brotherhood said in a statement quoted by the Egyptian daily Al-Masry Al-Youm that the attack "could be attributed to the Mossad, which has been seeking to abort the Egyptian revolution, especially as it had several days ago instructed Israeli citizens who were in Sinai to leave immediately."

The statement also said that the incident "aims to add problems at the border to those already plaguing the country internally following the collapse of a corrupt system, and attempts to claim the failure of the new Egyptian government that was formed only three days ago."

"The incident is also an attempt to disrupt the president's reform project and drive a wedge between the Egyptian administration and its people, and the Palestinian government and the people of Gaza," the statement concluded.

Dr. Hilmi al-Gazar, a member of the Supreme Council of the Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice party, told a local network that the Israeli Mossad was able to penetrate into the organization which carried out the attack and direct its activities.

He claimed that the timing of the attack, which took place during the meal which marks the end of the Ramadan fast day, and the lack of preparedness on the part of the Egyptian soldiers who were killed, proved that the Israeli intelligence service was behind the terrorist act.

Meanwhile, an organization identified with the Salafi movement in Egypt condemned the IDF for destroying the two Egyptian armored vehicles stolen by the terrorists, and argued that Israel should have taken over the vehicles, refrained from attacking them and detained the terrorists so they could be questioned.

The organization claimed that perhaps Israel's intention by attacking the armored vehicles was to destroy evidence of its involvement in the attack.

An IDF investigation of the terror attack indicates that the terrorists were able to blow open a fence on the Gaza border by blowing up 500 kilograms of explosives, that were stored inside a truck.

The operation, top IDF officials said, presents a "worrying picture of the intentions of terrorist groups to attack Israel."

A previously unknown group, the Shura Mujahadeen Council, took responsibility for the attack. The group posted a Facebook message praising the attack, and saying that "there is no place in the Arab and Muslim world for liberal and secular democratic values," and that they were "dedicated to the struggle against Zionism." The perpetrators are suspected to be Sinai Bedouin.

The head of Egyptian intelligence said on Tuesday that Egypt had received intelligence about Sunday's attack on the Egypt-Israel border before it took place.

Mourad Mowafy told a Turkish news agency that "Despite the detailed information about the attack, we never imagined that a Muslim would kill a Muslim during the meal to end the Ramadan fast day."

He added, "But this does not diminish the ability of our security agencies and their vigilance in Sinai." He added that preliminary information suggests that the terrorists belong to a group in Sinai and Gaza.

Egypt's state-run MENA news agency quoted medical and security sources on Tuesday as saying that the bodies and body parts of the attackers were transferred from the Arish General Hospital morgue to the Department of Forensic Medicine in Cairo.

MENA quoted unnamed sources as saying autopsies would be conducted to identify the bodies. Israel on Monday handed over four bodies to their Egyptian counterparts through the Awja crossing, most of which were completely burned, the report said.

Sunday's terror attack began when terrorists attacked two Egyptian army posts in the Egyptian part of Rafiah with anti-tank rockets and gunfire. The terrorists then tried to infiltrate into Israel using two stolen Egyptian military vehicles, but were foiled by the IDF.

The Muslim Brotherhood claimed that Israel was behind the terror attack, saying it "could be attributed to the Mossad, which has been seeking to abort the Egyptian revolution, especially as it had several days ago instructed Israeli citizens who were in Sinai to leave immediately."

The movement's statement added that the incident "aims to add problems at the border to those already plaguing the country internally following the collapse of a corrupt system, and attempts to claim the failure of the new Egyptian government that was formed only three days ago."

Hamas' de-facto Prime Minister in Gaza, Ismail Haniyeh, repeated the Muslim Brotherhood's claims, saying, "Israel is responsible, one way or another, for this attack to embarrass Egypt's leadership and create new problems at the border, in order to ruin efforts to end the [Israeli] siege of the Gaza Strip."

Meanwhile, Reuters reported on Tuesday that Egypt began to seal off smuggling tunnels into Gaza.

A Reuters reporter said heavy equipment was brought to the Egyptian side of the tunnels, which are used to smuggle people to and from Gaza as well as food and fuel.

A security source told the news agency that "the campaign aims at closing all the openings between Egypt and the Gaza Strip that are used in smuggling operations."

However, Israel's Former Ambassador to Egypt Tzvi Mazel expressed doubt that the Egyptian government will take effective action against the terrorists who operate in Sinai.

"We must remember that the person running Egypt today is the Muslim Brotherhood's Mohammed Morsi," he told Arutz Sheva.
