March 18, 2011
March 18 2011- Militant Islam Monitor-Bengladesh born Rajib Karim has been sentenced to 30 years in a plot to smuggle an explosive aboard a British Airways plane. Kareem used his employment as a British Airways IT worker to conceal his terrorist activities. He was in contact with the American born Al Qaeda cleric Anwar Al- Awlaki in order to coordinate the plan. Karim intended to attack the airline's infrastructure or bomb an airplane.
He applied for a job as a member of the cabin crew to better enable him to smuggle a bomb on board an aircraft.
According to the UK Telegraph the judge stated that:
" [D]uring the three years and three months Karim was living in Britain he "worked incessantly to further the terrorist purposes while managing to keep your real intentions concealed behind a quiet and unobtrusive lifestyle." "None of those you worked with at BA had even the slightest idea that anything like what you have been convicted of was going on," the judge added." http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/terrorism-in-the-uk/8391162/British-Airways-bomber-jailed-for-30-years.html
