Rep Peter King To Hold Hearings On Islamic Radicalization

December 20, 2010

December 20, 2010 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - In an op-ed published today by Newsday [see, http://www.newsday.com/opinion/oped/king-what-s-radicalizing-muslim-americans-1.2550488] New York Representative Peter King poses the question, "What's Radicalizing American Muslims?"

In this piece, King, the incoming chair of the Homeland Security Committee and a frequent target of the multicultural thought police, carefully establishes that before 9/11 he had excellent and extensive dealings with Muslims.

"Before 9/11, few if any American politicians had a closer relationship with the Muslim community and its leadership than I did. During my first months in Congress in 1993, I traveled to the Balkans - including Bosnia, Macedonia and Kosovo - to support that region's Muslims from aggression by Serbian Orthodox Christians...I attended the Islamic Center of Long Island ...had Muslim students intern in my office...In the days following 9/11, I made several television and radio appearances supporting American Muslims, saying that they had nothing to do with the attacks and were as loyal and patriotic as any Americans..."

King was [mirroring the feeling of many Americans] therefore greatly troubled by the Muslim response to the September 11 terrorist attacks, seeing the emergence of a hard-line Islamist perspective which blamed everyone but those who were actually involved, primarily Saudi Muslims linked to al-Qaeda.

King became aware that despite claims to the contrary, U.S. Muslim leadership often was an impediment to law enforcement when it came to terrorism, "Federal and local law enforcement officials throughout the country told me they received little or - in most cases - no cooperation from Muslim leaders and imams..."

This continuing campaign, vilifying the American counter-terror effort by Islamist mouthpieces such as CAIR and ISNA, had led the representative to call for congressional hearings to investigate the causative factors behind Islamic radicalization in the United States, post 9/11.

Mr. King's effort is long overdue and we hope that such an investigation will lead to a permanent sub-committee within the Homeland Security Committee, which will continue to the increasing radicalization of American Muslims and why, nearly 10 years after this horrific event, 15% of U.S. Muslim men between 15 and 29 support suicide bombing, an unacceptable position for any citizen of the West.
