Al-Awlaki Inspired Knife Attacker of British MP Gets Life

November 3- Militant Islam Monitor- British student Roshonara Choudhry has been jailed for life in the stabbing on MP Stephen Timms who said she was "smiling" at him before the attack. She tried to kill the MP because of his support for the Iraq war.Choudhry told police she wanted to die as a martyr after watching hours of videos by radical cleric Anwar al-Awlaki.The knifing is considered the first Al-Qaeda inspired attack on a politician on British soil.

According to the BBC:

"Mr. Timms said he was "alarmed" that such a bright woman could "throw it all away" by becoming radicalized via the internet so quickly….Choudhry, who was described as an outstanding student, dropped out of her English degree at King's College London weeks before the attack….The Muslim student is understood to have become radicalised watching online sermons by Anwar al-Awlaki, a radical American Muslim cleric of Yemeni descent." http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-11686764

Timms said that it should be looked into what "legal mechanisms" could be applied both domestically and internationally to remove the radical content which is being disseminated on the internet.
