Napolitano Continues Perfidy at Dept of Homeland Security

June 21, 2010

June 21, 2010 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Arguing in favor of continuing the electronic surveillance techniques brought into play post 9/11 by the GW Bush administration - furiously resisted by the Democrat party and this president - Dept. of Homeland Security Secretary Napolitano stated before the lefty American Constitution Society for Law and Policy that, "The First Amendment protects radical opinions, but we need the legal tools to do things like monitor the recruitment of terrorists via the Internet." [source, AP via Fox News, Napolitano: Internet Monitoring Needed to Fight Homegrown Terrorism, June 18, 2010, http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/06/18/napolitano-internet-monitoring-needed-fight-homegrown-terrorism/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+foxnews%2Fpolitics+%28Text+-+Politics%29]

Of course to this crowd any talk of actually interdicting communication between terrorists brings cries of outrage and threats of lawsuits.

Entirely missing from Napolitano's address was mention of the now officially banned terms "Islamic terrorism," or "jihadism" - wouldn't want to offend the terrorists, and that really is the question at hand.

Throughout the this administration's short term in office it has sought - under Obama's failed policy of rapproachement with an intransigent Muslim world - to underplay the blatantly obvious linkage between terrorism and Islam. This has been done for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is the president's curious inability to criticize a religion he claims to have long ago rejected.

It has been correctly observed in many venues - including this publication - that it is impossible to defeat an enemy which we are unwilling to identify and Napolitano's entire approach on the matter [obviously dictated by her boss] has been a disaster, with terrorist attacks markedly spiking under her tremulous stewardship.

All of this amounts to half measures at best, keeping the window dressing of Bush's security measures but failing to make them part of an internally consistent and effective whole because of crass ideological and political considerations.

With her every public utterance, this woman indicts - in a backhanded manner - the foolish policies of Mr. Obama and his bevy of clueless advisors. One might think that replacing her with a more circumspect individual would be a top priority for an administration already fully off-the-rails, that it has not yet happened is testament to the rapidly disintegrating team Obama.
