Dutch parliament will speedy debate over Islam conference

House will speedy debate over Islam Conference

The Lower House wants a speedy debate with Minister Ernst Hirsh Ballin (Justice) over a conference at the of May in Amsterdam over the future of islam in Holland. PVV'er Raymond de Roon who took the initative for the debate wants to know waht the connection is of the fundamentalist Muslim Brotherhood to the meeting. The congress has as title 'Islam in Holland, meditations over the present and future horizons'. One of the organisers behind the conference is the International Support Organisation.
According to the Telegraaf this is a 'front organisation for the International Union of Muslim Scholars, which is lead by sheik Yusuf al- Quradawi.' He has issued fatwas wherein suicide attacks were condoned.
"This is clearly incitement to violence" concluded De Roon. "And naturally we can't have that in Holland" He wants an explanation over what the government knows about this congress. If it was up to the PVV'er no visas would be provided to congress goers who support the call of the sheik.
The PVV'er also asks if foreign participants can be refused entry by not giving them a visa. The house will speak about this with the minister before the end of May.
In the yearly report from 2009 from the intelligence agency the AIVD, which came out Tuesday, the Muslim Brotherhood was described as a radical Islamist movement, which appears above all to be striving for a Muslim friendly climate in Europa. But it is "predictable that this very orthodox interpretation of Islam comes into conflict with the basis of a democratic rule of law."

UPDATE DEN HAAG - De Tweede Kamer wil een spoeddebat met minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin (Justitie) over een conferentie eind mei in Amsterdam over de toekomst van de islam in Nederland. PVV'er Raymond de Roon, die het initiatief nam tot het debat, wil weten wat de betrokkenheid is van de fundamentalistische Moslimbroederschap bij de bijeenkomst.
Het congres heeft als titel 'Islam in Holland, mediteren over de huidige en toekomstige horizonten'. Een van de organisaties achter de conferentie is de International Support Organisation. Volgens de Telegraaf is dit een 'frontorganisatie voor de International Union of Muslim Scholars, die wordt geleid door sjeik Yusuf al-Qaradawi'. Hij zou fatwa's hebben uitgevaardigd waarin zelfmoordaanslagen worden goedgekeurd.
"Hierdoor wordt duidelijk aangezet tot geweld", concludeert De Roon. "En dat kunnen we in Nederland natuurlijk niet hebben." Hij wil opheldering over wat de regering weet over dit congres. Als het aan de PVV'er ligt, worden er geen visa uitgedeeld aan congresgangers die de oproep van de sjeik steunen.
Ook vraagt de PVV of buitenlandse deelnemers kunnen worden geweerd door hun geen visa te geven. De Kamer wil er voor eind mei met de minister over praten.
In het jaarverslag over 2009 van inlichtingendienst AIVD, dat dinsdag verscheen, wordt de Moslimbroederschap beschreven als een radicaalislamitische beweging, die vooral lijkt te streven naar een moslimvriendelijk klimaat in Europa. Maar het is ,,voorstelbaar dat de zeer orthodoxe interpretatie van de islam op gespannen voet komt te staan met de beginselen van de democratische rechtsorde."
