Free Speech To Go On Trial In Holland

On January 20 th 2010 Geert Wilders, the leader of The Freedom Party will be going on trial for inciting hate, discrimination and insulting Muslims. Wilders has called the case "the trial of the century" and is urging his supporters to come out in force and demonstrate in front of the Amsterdam courthouse where the trial is being held. http://www.pipelinenews.org/index.cfm?page=wilders9.14.09.htm

Last year Wilders made a short film called Fitna showing how Islam and the Koran incited to violence ending with the statement "Stop Islamisation. Defend our freedom."

Wilders has called for the Koran to be banned comparing calling it a "facist book" and comparing it to Mein Kampf.

Wilders is under 24/7 police protection as a result of threats on his life.

By ordering Wilders to court the Dutch public prosecutor has put free speech on trial.

Mr Wilders said the decision to prosecute him was an "attack on the freedom of expression".

"Participation in the public debate has become a dangerous activity. If you give your opinion, you risk being prosecuted," he said.

Not only he, but all Dutch citizens opposed to the "Islamisation" of their country would be on trial, Mr Wilders warned.

"Who will stand up for our culture if I am silenced?" he added. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/7842344.stm

Three Dutch judges said they had considered Wilders "one sided generalizations" versus his right to free speech and concluded he had gone beyond the bounds of the standard flexibility given to politicians.

According to a court statement:

"The Amsterdam appeals court has ordered the prosecution of member of parliament Geert Wilders for inciting hatred and discrimination, based on comments by him in various media on Muslims and their beliefs,"…

"The court also considers appropriate criminal prosecution for insulting Muslim worshippers because of comparisons between Islam and Nazism made by Wilders," it added. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/7842344.stm

Wilders is being prosecuted under Dutch "hate speech" laws and could face a very long sentence if he is found guilty.

Holland's regulations mimic similar legislation throughout Europe which have served to give governments the supreme prosecutorial tool; the ability to criminalize thought.

Though these strictures ostensibly grew out of the Nazi experience and the desire to prevent its recurrence, the blindness of dealing with such a complex phenomenon with reflexive legislation can't be underestimated. The supreme irony here is that the Islamists - many of whom are in large part in league ideologically with the Nazi fascists who preceded them - have now successfully used these laws to muzzle their critics such as Mr. Wilders.

The prospect of being jailed simply for speaking out about Europe's increasingly radical Muslim minority presents a daunting challenge in the struggle between civilization and barbarism. http://www.pipelinenews.org/index.cfm?page=wildersid=1.22.09%2Ehtm

At a recent appearance in Philadelphia Wilders said :

"I have nothing against Muslims...I make a difference between the people and the ideology...but I do have a problem with Islam...There is no such thing as a moderate Islam …Islam's heart lies in the Qur'an, an evil book that calls for violence and murder, for terrorism and war...and the problem is that the provisions in the Qur'an are not restricted to any time or place rather they apply to all Muslims from all times...The facts are that Mohammed was not a perfect man but a murderer and pedophile."

Wilders stated that the Islamic concept of migration is aimed at taking over the West by sheer force of numbers and asserted that "Europe is indeed in the process of becoming Eurabia," stressing that, "Time is running out we need to act. We need to stop the Islamization of our societies; we need to protect all our rights, our rights of free speech."

Towards that end he proposed five measures to "preserve our liberties."

1. Ending all forms of cultural relativism and state in our constitutions that our heritage is Judeo-Christian.

2. We have to stop mass immigration from Muslim countries.

3. Allowing Muslims to stay in our countries only if they subscribe to our values and norms.

4. Enact some version of the American First Amendment in Europe.

5. We have to elect great leaders.

In a rousing conclusion Mr. Wilders said "Let us have fewer Chamberlains and more Churchills...break the politically correct chains. Let's finally start fighting back."

A verdict in the Wilders case has far reaching implications for the fight against the Islamisation of the West. If intimidation by ‘legal lawfare' to silence Islam's critics is successful it will represent a huge victory for civilizational jihad.
