Congressman Frank Wolf "Deeply Concerned" Obama Plan To Try 9/11 Terrorists Will "Put The U.S. On Trial" Instead

November 14, 2009 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Congressman Frank Wolf [R-VA] on Friday blasted team Obama's decision to prosecute 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed and four other terrorists in a New York civilian court proceeding.

"It is a mistake to bring such dangerous people to the United States for trial. Khalid Sheik Mohammed is the mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks that killed more than 3,000 people, 30 of whom were from my congressional district. He also is the person who took pleasure in beheading Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl…Because these terrorists have no defense for their unconscionable role in 9/11, they will use this civilian trial as an opportunity to put the United States on trial…"

Wolf expressed concern that the terror defendants, "will push for the release of sensitive intelligence and defense information in an effort to disclose U.S. anti-terrorism tactics to their terrorist brethren abroad," further stating, "this is just a bad decision."

The Congressman challenged AG Holder's assertion that terrorists pose no threat to the U.S. justice system, citing the 2000 trial of Mahmud Salim, one of the terrorists accused of the 1998 bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Kenya. Salim, one of the original followers of Osama bin Laden and the highest ranking al-Qaeda member held in the U.S. at the time, stabbed New York prison guard Louis Pepe in the eye during an escape attempt. Though Salim is currently serving time for his attack on the guard, the judge ruled that he could not be prosecuted for terrorism.
