September 7, 2009 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - On September 25 a movement calling itself "Islam on Capitol Hill" will stage a massive Jummah [Friday] prayer event outside the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., as " a day of Islamic unity" under the motto " Our Time Has Come."

The organizers expect 50,000 Muslims, according to their website:

"The objective of this gathering is to invite the Muslim Communities and friends of Islam to express and illustrate the wonderful diversity of Islam. We intend to manifest Islam's majestic spiritual principals as revealed by Allah to our beloved prophet Muhammad (PEACE BE UPON HIM) of Arabia. Likewise; we intend to inspire a new generation of Muslim to work for the greater good of all people. We shall serve all people, regardless of race, religion or national origin." The prayer session is primarily being organized by Hassen Abdellah, president of Dar-ul-Islam, a New Jersey mosque, who states his intent to, "expose Americans to how Muslims pray." [source, http://www.nj.com/news/ledger/jersey/index.ssf?/base/news-14/1251729908173130.xml&coll=1]

This is the first time that Muslims have organized such an event and if the thousands of Muslims show up as expected it will be the largest da'wa [Islamic conversion] exercise in history, with Abdellah claiming that the event was inspired by president Obama's Cairo speech, "it was President Obama's words at his inauguration in January, and then his speech in Egypt in June, that led Abdellah and an area imam, Abdul Malik, to begin discussing the idea,...For the first time in my lifetime," Abdellah said, "I heard someone of his stature speaking about Islam and Muslims not in an adversarial sense..."

SHEIKH AHMED DEWIDAR was born and raised in Rashid (Rosetta), a port city on the Mediterranean Sea coast. By age 12, he had memorized the Qur'an with the help of his father, Sheikh Sayed Al-Tantawy Dewidar. He later studied law at the University of Alexandria, and completed his master's degree in Shariah (Islamic law) in 1993. Dewidar traveled to New Jersey nearly a decade ago to lead a small Muslim community in their nightly tarawih prayers during the holy month of Ramadan. Only six years later, he stood shoulder to shoulder with US President George W. Bush and UN Secretary General Kofi Anan at Ground Zero as Imam of the Islamic Center in Mid-Manhattan to speak on behalf of the Muslim community to condemn the September 11 attacks. Dewidar, an instructor at Manhattanville College, made New York his home and soon established the Islamic Center in mid-Manhattan.

MUHAMMAD AL SAID HUSSAYN JEBRIL is known in the Islamic world as "Sheikh Jebril". He got the B.A degree in Islamic Law at Al-Azhar University. He learned Koran by the age of 9. More that once, Sheikh Jebril won the Egyptian and international competitions of Koran recitation. He was named as Imam of the famous mosque Amr Ibn Al'Ass in Cairo in 1988. Every year, thousands of people rush to the mosque during Ramadan to attend the Tarawih prayers that are lead by him. Sheikh Muhammad Jebril is, also, a University professor in Jordan. He has plenty of complete recitations of Koran. He took part and organised several TV shows in lots of Arab channels around the Koranic theme. At last, Sheikh Jebril is especially admired for the quality of his "Dou'as Al Qunût" (Invocations during prayer).
