Hezbollah Spokesman Due to Enter the UK
Centre for Social Cohesion Press Release 25 February 2009

The Centre for Social Cohesion can reveal that Dr. Ibrahim el-Moussaoui, spokesman for the terrorist group Hezbollah, is to travel to the UK in March.

Douglas Murray, Director of the Centre for Social Cohesion, says:

"Given the recent Home Office decision to bar Dutch MP Geert Wilders from the UK, it is astonishing that they could even contemplate allowing Dr. el-Moussaoui into the country. We appear to have reached the point at which an elected Dutch politician cannot enter the UK, but a spokesperson for a terrorist group can."

Dr Ibrahim el-Moussaoui

  • Dr. el-Moussaoui was until recently one of the heads of al-Manar TV, the official media wing of Hezbollah. Al-Manar's official website described him as a spokesman for Hezbollah as recently as 21 February 2009. Sky News has also referred to him as a Hezbollah spokesman.
  • In 2002 The New Yorker reported that Dr. Moussaoui said that Jews were "a lesion on the forehead of history".
  • In 2006, when el-Moussaoui was still head of al-Manar's foreign department, the U.S. Treasury Department designated al-Manar as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist entity. The designation states:
"In addition to supporting Hizballah, al Manar has also provided support to other designated Palestinian terrorist organizations, including the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) and al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, notably transferring tens of thousands of dollars for a PIJ-controlled charity. PIJ is listed as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist and a Foreign Terrorist Organization by the U.S. Government, and is also named on the European Union's list of terrorist entities."
  • According to The Washington Institute for Near East Policy, an al-Manar official has stated that the channel aims to "help people on the way to committing what you call in the West a suicide mission. [They are] meant to be the first step in the process of a freedom fighter operation."
  • In November 2008, Germany banned al-Manar because of its promotion of violence.
  • In 2004, France banned al-Manar due to its repeated incitements of racial hatred.
  • The channel has also been banned by European satellite providers, Eutelsat, Globecast, Hispasat and New Skies Satellite.
