Federal Refugee Program Involved In Forcing U.S. Employers Into Shari'a Compliance

By WILLIAM MAYER and BEILA RABINOWITZ

September 15, 2008 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - A little known, much less discussed, federal program designed to aid some of the world's most needy is being used by some of its participants to force American companies to become Shari'a compliant.

The program - authorized by Congress - is administered by the State Department's Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration . It facilitates fast track access to permanent resident status for certain groups designated as political refugees.

The legislation was originally intended to set up a methodology for accommodating the Vietnamese "boat people," who left Southeast Asia after the fall of Vietnam to the communists, understandably fearful of political retribution.

Since then other groups have been added to the program, often at the insistence of influential Congressmen. Among these are refugees from the strife-torn African country of Somalia.

In numerous examples [all of which these authors have written about, see Ingrate Somali Muslim Workers On Rampage - Again - This Time At Colorado Meat Packer, JBS Swift, Creeping Shari'a Turned Back - Tyson Reinstates Labor Day, Shari'a Comes To Shelbyville Tennessee, Are Minneapolis Taxi Fares Going To Support Al-Qaeda?, Muslim Taxi Drivers At Minneapolis International Airport Subjecting Fares To Sharia] after finding work, these Somali refugees have demanded from their employers the "right" to conduct elaborate Muslim prayer rituals [and other elements of Shari'a] regardless of the cost to their employers or the harm such activity might have in a production environment. In many cases what seem to be good will efforts by these employers to address their Muslim worker's concerns have seemingly fallen on deaf ears.

In the case of JBS Swift, approximately 100 Somali workers were fired on September 10 after having conducted a walkout the previous week in a dispute over breaking the Ramadan fast.

Over and above pressure applied by the labor unions representing these low-skill workers there are two other forces at work. One is American Islamist organizations such as the Council on American Islamic Relations [CAIR, named as an unindicted co-conspirator in U.S. vs. Holy Land Foundation, et al, the country's largest terror funding prosecution] who are involved in providing legal counsel in some cases to the Somalis. Such groups have a vested interest in seeing that Islamic law becomes inextricably bound into the weave of U.S. labor regulations. The second is the legal arm of the U.S. government, in this case attorneys for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission [EEOC] which is browbeating employers such as Gold'n Plump into accepting the Somali worker's demands.

The involvement by the federal government [the EEOC] in this matter is of special concern, since it seems to grant a special "seal of approval," recognizing Shari'a-centric considerations and expanding, in an ominous way, what have been the traditional boundaries of labor law considerations while blurring the classically held Western distinction between church and state.

In a breaking development, the Greeley Colorado Tribune is reporting that flyers have been seized at the JBS Swift company cafeteria which display the type of Islamic fundamentalism that heretofore has been well hidden from the public in this matter. The existence of such extremist sentiment speaks loudly as to the degree to which apparently, at least some members of the Somali community have embraced the most radical interpretation of Shari'a, not a good precedent as this controversy continues to unfold.

"Meanwhile, an investigation continues concerning threatening fliers that were distributed in the plant's cafeteria on Wednesday night that appeared to show people in a protest with signs reading 'Behead those who insult Islam.'"
