Holland Girds For Protests After Geert Wilders Announces "Anti-Quran" Film

By Beila Rabinowitz

November 30, 2007 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - The Dutch government has begun taking measures to deal with anticipated protests months prior to the release in January of Geert Wilders' "anti-Quran" film entitled "Surrender" and has tried to talk the Dutch legislator out of completing the project.

Dutch Muslims have already gone a long way in proving the thesis for the film, threatening disturbances, with one member of the Muslim Dutch Council warning:

"…should the film actually be made, and it could provoke similar reactions abroad to those seen over Danish cartoons depicting the Prophet." [source, http://www.reuters.com/article/filmNews/idUSL2861404320071128]

According to the Telegraaf:

"Wilders' film plans have reportedly caused great unrest in cabinet circles. "Behind the scenes, Wilders is being worked on by three departments involved: foreign affairs, justice and home affairs…The national anti-terrorism coordinator Tjibbe Joustra is also said to be involved in the talks."

Foreign Minister Maxim Verhagen met with him to point out the risks in making such a movie for himself and his entourage, and for the Netherlands and the Dutch interests abroad." [source, http://www.thetimes.co.za/News/Article.aspx?id=642466]

Wilders, the head of the Freedom Party [PVV] who lives under 24/7 guard because of constant death threats from Islamists. He recently called for the Quran to be banned and said he wants to show in his film that:

"… the Koran is a "frightful and fascist book." If he thereby insults people, that is "a pity, but not my problem….I hope that it will open people's eyes to the fact that the Koran should be banned, just like Mein Kampf." [source, http://www.nisnews.nl/public/291107_1.htm]

The fear shown by Dutch politicians and public officials alike, at the prospect of incurring Muslim wrath, reflects the degree of dhimmitude to which the Dutch have grown accustomed. If those seeking to suppress the film are successful, it will be seen as a victory for the Muslim radicals whose power has been in ascendancy since Mohammed Bouyeri slaughtered film maker Theo van Gogh in 2004. As a coda to that brutal murder, Bouyeri stabbed a note into van Gogh's chest which called upon Muslims to murder Geert Wilders as well.

That Wilders is being pressured by the Dutch government and law enforcement officials to shelve his film is a searing indictment of the national lack of will to defy Holland's enemies. http://www.pipelinenews.org/index.cfm?page=wilders11.30.07%2Ehtm
