He told Judge Victor Marreo of United States District Court that he sent military gear and money to South Waziristan, a tribal area near the border with Afghanistan, in the summer of 2003, and then travelled there himself with equipment and money in March of 2004. There, he turned over supplies, including night vision goggles, sleeping bags, waterproof socks and ponchos, to an unnamed al Qaeda leader.
"We got together with people, tried to raise money and supplies and tried to give them to high-ranking al Qaeda officials to be used with the ongoing war inside Afghanistan," Babar testified to the court on June 3rd. "I understood that the money and supplies that I had given to al Qaeda was supposed to be used in Afghanistan, you know, against U.S. or International Forces or against the Northern Alliance."
He also admitted to buying aluminum powder and trying unsuccessfully to buy ammonium nitrate fertilizer to make bombs, as part of a plot to blow up pubs, train stations and restaurants in Britain.
The plot was foiled in late March, when British authorities seized 1,000 pounds of ammonium nitrate from a storage locker in London and arrested eight suspects.
Babar also pleaded guilty to helping to set up a training facility for Islamic extremists in the tribal region and providing transportation for the trainees between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
"I set up a jihad training camp where those who wanted to go into Afghanistan where they could learn how to use weapons, and also, you know, any explosive devices that they wanted to test over there," he said.
Babar was arrested by a police sergeant, a detective and two agents from the FBI-NYPD Joint Terrorist Task Force shortly after returning from Pakistan in April. He was on his way to a taxi-driving school he had been attending in Long Island City, police said.
The investigators had been watching Babar ever since he gave an interview on Canadian television shortly after 9-11 in which he said that he wanted to travel to Afghanistan and fight alongside the Taliban against American soldiers.
The Queens native, who had spent a year studying at St. John's University in Jamaica Estates, said that his mother had escaped the attacks, fleeing from the ninth floor of the World Trade Center, but nonetheless his loyalty was to Muslims in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
"Yes, I'm willing to kill the American soldiers if they enter into Afghanistan with their ground troops. I'm willing to kill the Americans," he said in the interview. "And if the Americans use Pakistani soil as its bases, we will kill them in Pakistan, too."
Babar's grandparents emigrated from Pakistan, and infused him with a strong Muslim faith that turned extremist as he grew older, said published reports.
According to reports in the World News Daily, Babar was a member of the Queens branch of Al-Muhajiroun, which holds closed-door meetings and study sessions at a mosque in Jackson Heights.
An investigator who tracks Islamic extremists characterized Al-Muhajiroun as a religious group largely made up of devout Muslims, a small number of whom have been involved in terrorist activity. The group is linked to the Finsbury Park Mosque in London, where the radical cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri, who was arrested in June for hostage-taking and conspiracy, formerly preached. Al-Muhajiroun's worldwide leader, Sheikh Omar Bakri Muhammad, has long been suspected of ties to al Qaeda, according to published reports.
The Queens branch claims to be involved in "only peaceful activities." But at one Al-Muhajiroun event at Queensborough Community College in 2003, sponsored by the Muslim Student Association, Al-Muhajiroun speaker Muhammed Faheed said, "We reject the U.N., reject America, reject all law and order. Don't lobby or protest because we don't recognize Congress. The only relationship you should have with America is to topple it."
Two of the 19 hijackers on September 11th were members of Al-Muhajiron. An FBI agent named Kenneth Williams had warned the government that they were taking flight classes in Arizona prior to the attacks.
Officials said the men arrested in the British bombing plot were also linked to Al Muhajiroun. Babar returned to the United States in early March, several weeks before they were arrested, and his communication with them drew the attention of law enforcement officials.
In custody, Babar reportedly told investigators al Qaeda is planning more attacks in the United States, and he allegedly revealed a detailed plan to smuggle al Qaeda agents across the Mexican border. His assertions were reportedly part of the intelligence that led to recent warnings about a summer threat from the terror network.
Babar's lawyer, Daniel Ollen, could not be reached for comment.
Outside his two-story Queen Anne home on Cedarcroft Road, neighbors were shocked to learn they had a terror suspect living in their midst.
"You never know what's going on with people," said one resident, who wished to remain anonymous.

September 13, 2004 -- A blind terrorist sheik was able to issue an order to his militant Islamic followers from prison — calling for the "killing of Jews" everywhere just a year before the Sept. 11 attacks — thanks to help from a Staten Island postal worker, Manhattan jurors were told.
Sheik Omar Abdel-Rahman is serving a life sentence for conspiring to blow up city landmarks. He's barred from contacting anyone except his wife and legal team.
But Ahmed Abdel Sattar, the postal worker who also serves as Abdel-Rahman's paralegal, delivered the sheik's chilling fatwa, or edict, to terrorists over the phone and via e-mail, according to calls intercepted by federal authorities. The phone calls were transcribed and viewed by jurors.
Sattar is on trial in Manhattan federal court for participating in terrorist activity. Two other defendants, Abdel-Rahman's radical lawyer, Lynne Stewart, and his interpreter, Mohammed Yousry, are also charged with aiding and abetting terrorist activity by helping smuggle the sheik's messages out of prison. Federal prosecutors said Sattar delivered the sheik's messages directly to terror supporters in Afghanistan and London, and through Arabic and Mideast Web sites, according to the wiretaps.
Sattar, with a copy of the sheik's fatwa in his hand, excitedly tells Yassir Al-Sirri based in London during an Oct. 4, 2000, phone call, "Do you want to listen to it?" Al-Sirri answers yes.
Sattar reads the fatwa: "A statement to the nation, the old and the young . . . calling on the Islamic nation to mandate the killing of Jews wherever they are." The sheik's edict said it is the "duty of every capable Muslim to wage the jihad against them . . . until the Jews are driven to their graves . . . either killing them as individuals or by targeting their interests and their advocates, as much as they can, adding, "assassinate them."

RAHMAN WITHOUT CHARGE.
PREPARES TO HAND HIM TO EGYPTIAN REGIME
US immigration and FBI agents arrested Brother Naser Ahmad, the
court-appointed para-legal for the respected Muslim Scholar
Dr. Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman, who is currently appealing a life
sentence in the US. Brother Naser was on his way for his immigration
hearing last Tuesday 23 April, 1996 when US government agents
arrested him without charge. Attorneys failed until now to receive any
response from the government to why he was arrested.
Brother Naser is considered a key person in the appeal case of Sheikh
Omar because he works in both a para-legal and a translator capacity to
help the Sheikh communicate with attorneys and the courts. He
visited the Sheikh few weeks ago in his Missouri high security prison.
Sheikh Omar was a victim of a conspiracy in which the US government,
mainly the FBI, the INS and the CIA along with the Egyptian regime
intelligence fabricated a case against him. The Sheikh was sentenced
to two lives in prison by the Jewish Judge Michael Mukasey, early this
year.
In April last year and while the hearings in the Sheikh's case were
ongoing, the US government arrested Brother Naser for what they called
immigration charges, they took him to INS offices and threatened him
with
deportation to Egypt and that he would be handed over with his family to
Egyptian security intelligence if he refused to become a witness against
the Sheikh. He was also told to call FBI agents and to say on the
witness stand what they want. Brother Naser told the US agents that he
would not lie. In the Face of this faithful and brave Muslim, the
US government had no choice but to release.
One day prior to the arrest of Brother Naser, the so called
"Terrorism Bill" was signed into law with the encouragement and
influence of Jews in Washington. The new law allows the government
to deport anyone after tagging him as a terrorist threat, it also allows
agents to arrest people without charge and without allowing them the
right to attorney. Before the victim knows and before he/she gets
a chance to defend him/her self, government agents, by this new law, can
deport him quickly. It now looks that Brother Naser Ahmad may be the
first victim of this law which was meant against Muslims especially that
Islam has become the fastest growing religion in America.
Brother Naser is an Electrical Engineer, married with three children who
live in New York, he was also an officer at Masjid Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq,
which has been the target of both US and Egyptian intelligence agents
for
the past few years, most recently the Mosque was targeted by law suites
in
order to destroy its unique Islamic identity. Naser Ahmad has never
committed
a crime or a violation since his lawful entry into the US in 1983. It is
now clear
that the US government want to do anything in its capacity to harm the
appeal case of Sheikh Omar, even if it means deporting his para-legal to
the
Egyptian security forces where he is surely to be tortured or even
killed. The
US government was involved in the arrest last year and continued
detention of Brother Yusuf Saleh, a US citizen, who was the para-legal
for Sheikh Omar and was visiting Egypt with his family.
Here is the blessed Eid Al-Adha (Sacrifice) coming to us while the best
of our Muslim Scholars and the best of our Muslim youth is spending
his time behind bars in the US and other oppressive regime prisons, away
from their families, children and people.
We condemn this US government cowardly act against Islam and Muslims,
and we see the fingertips of Jews all over this campaign. It was a
Jewish
judge who sentenced the Sheikh, and it will be a Jewish judge also who
will preside on Brother Naser's case, even the head of the CIA is a Jew,
and so are most of the senior officials in the Clinton's administration,
the
experts and the think tanks and influential legislatures. We say Hasbuna
Allah Wa Ni'ma Al-Wakeel, and this is an urgent call to every Muslim to
stand with his brother in this hard time and to assist in his defense.
