Regime of Saudi Arabia Finances Radical Schools In Belgium

Saudi Arabia finances 'a number of schools' in Belgium where teaching staff teach Arabic and a radical form of Islam. Minister Annemie Turtelboom (Justice) is concerned.

She warned about this Tuesday in the Flemish media. She based her concerns on information from the state security services. 'In certain cases the schools were founded on express requests of the regime and with funds from Saudi Arabia' said Turtelboom.

Prophet

The schools 'answer to the will of the Saudi authorities to propagate Wahabism the official Islam of the country'. 'This doctrine is based on a strict interpretation of the Islamic religion as it was lived in the time of the prophet.'

How many students attend the radical schools, is not known. 'We estimate there to be a number of them' said Turtelboom.

Threat

Through their investment the Saudi Arabia hopes to attract students to universities where they will be thoroughly schooled in Wahabism. So that they will in turn be better to propagate their religion here.

The head of the Belgium State Security Services Alain Winants said at the end of last month that salafism, a radical stream within Islam is the greatest threat to Belgian democracy.

Regime Saudi-Arabië financiert radicale scholen in België

Daarvoor waarschuwt Turtelboom dinsdag in Vlaamse media.
