Imam Kareem Irfan Says His Emanuel Inauguration Speech Was "a Critical Opportunity for Wise Da'wah"

May 24, 2011

Imam Kareem Irfan was chairman of the Council of Islamic Organisations of Greater Chicago. (CIOCG) After the beheading of American engineer Paul M. Johnson Irfan provided an apologist's view of such atrocities by describing them as being based on "a primordial sense of retaliation and revenge."

In a CNN interview Irfan admitted to sending $5,000 to the Al Qaeda "charity" the Benevolence International Foundation (BIF) proclaiming that "I definitely do not regret it because I did it in the understanding that this was an outstanding institution."

According to the website of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) a Saudi funded Muslim Brotherhood linked group and the largest da'wa organization in North America whose goal is to turn the United States and Canada into an Islamic Society. Irfan claimed that his speech at the inauguration of the "first Jewish Mayor" of Chicago was "a critical opportunity for wise da'wah." Irfan is a member of ISNA's Masjid Al Shura (religious council).

"Mayor Emanuel chose to include representatives from many religions at his inaugural ceremony as a symbol of the value of diversity in his vision for Chicago. "It was both inspiring and humbling for me to speak as the first Muslim President of the Council of Religious Leaders of Metropolitan Chicago as over 6,000 Chicagoans gathered yesterday in Millennium Park to inaugurate this wonderful city's first Jewish Mayor in Mr. Rahm Emanuel," states Imam Kareem. "Considering this a critical opportunity for wise da'wah, I pray that inshaAllah I was able to provide an informed, firm and professional Muslim perspective reflective of our heritage of sensitive outreach and compassion for all."

Da'wah (Islamist proselytizing) is a form of stealth jihad. Sheik Yusuf al- Qaradawi, a Muslim Brotherhood leader who is now banned from entering the United States told a youth conference that :

"We will conquer Europe, we will conquer America! Not through (the) sword, but through Da'awa"

"Jihad can be with the pen and the tongue just as it can be with the sword and the spear. Islamic Jihad is not limited to military efforts only; it extends beyond this, including several means that Muslims need to utilize now more than ever."

Use Modern information media to spread Islam's message: Al-Asheikh

JEDDAH: Islamic Affairs Minister Saleh Al-Asheikh has emphasized the need for utilizing modern information media including the Internet and FM radio stations to spread the message of Islam.

"FM radios with shortwave have been found more effective in propagating Islam," the minister said, adding that it has been successfully used in African, East Asian and Southeast Asian countries.

"We can reach a large number of people through FM radios than satellite channels and at lesser cost," he said and urged philanthropists to make use of this dynamic media for dawa work.

He said Islamic scholars in the Kingdom can give classes and lectures through the Internet, targeting audience in different parts of the world. "Many people all over the world wanted to know more about Islam."

Al-Asheikh also stressed the need to use social media such as Facebook and Twitter for Islamic propagation, saying the younger generation uses this media for communication and exchange information.

He expected satellite channels would slowly disappear within 10-15 years as people would shift their focus to the Internet. "So, we should have a greater presence on the Internet and we should spend more money to develop this media," the minister said.

Last Monday, Al-Asheikh launched a new website for Hadith named to highlight the life and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The website also offers religious rulings and legislative consultations, which are answered by a group of specialist scholars.
