Islamic Relief Worldwide operative arrested on charges of aiding Hamas 'terror charity' has offices in US and UK

Islamic Relief fund raised with Mormon church
June 16, 2006

MIM: For years Islamic Relief Worldwide has denied they were linked to terrorism . The group which is based in the UK and Burbank California raised money after 9/11 using the pretext of helping victims. With the arrest of one of their British operatives in Israel who admitted funding Hamas it is to be hoped that IRW will go the way of KinderUSA and KindHearts, which were closed down by the U.S. Treasury Department because of terrorism funding.

British Citizen Expelled for Aiding Hamas
13:03 May 30, '06 / 3 Sivan 5766

(IsraelNN.com) Iyaz Ali, a British citizen of Pakistani origin, was arrested by the GSS in cooperation with the police Gideonim Unit. Ali is to be deported very soon for his activities in an organization supporting Hamas.

At his GSS interrogation, Iyaz Ali, aged 36, admitted that he is an official operative of IRW, a British-based organization that aids Hamas. Ali also stated that in this capacity, he worked at the organization's branch in Gaza as a project coordinator, from December 2005. Part of his activities involved transferring funds and assisting Hamas institutions and groups, including Al Wafa and Al Tzalah, both of which are officially illegal in Israel.

Communicated by the Prime Minister's Office)

The Israel Security Agency (ISA) and the Israel Police, on 10 May 2006, arrested Iyaz Ali, a Pakistani-born British national, born in 1970. He admitted to being a member of the UK-based Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW), which is suspected of supporting Hamas. He admitted to working for IRW's Gaza branch as a project director since December 2005; he worked to transfer funds and assistance to various Hamas institutions and organizations, including the Al Wafa and Al Tzalah associations, which have been outlawed in Israel. He also admitted that he worked in Jordan and cooperated with local Hamas operatives.

Incriminating files were found on Ali's computer, including documents that attested to the organization's ties with illegal Hamas funds abroad (in the UK and in Saudi Arabia) and in Nablus. Also found were photographs of swastikas superimposed on IDF symbols, of senior Nazi German officials, of Osama Bin Laden and Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, as well as many photographs of Hamas military activities.

The IRW was established in 1984 in the British city of Birmingham. It has branches in Gaza and Ramallah. The IRW provides support and assistance to Hamas's infrastructure. The IRW's activities in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip are carried out by social welfare organizations controlled and staffed by Hamas operatives. The intensive activities of these associations are designed to further Hamas's ideology among the Palestinian population.

These associations' educational and religious institutions incite against the State of Israel and advocate terrorist actions against it and its citizens. The associations provide support to the families of terrorists who were wounded in actions against Israel, and to Hamas prisoners and detainees. These associations thus promote Hamas's goals including the destruction of the State of Israel.

Ali admitted that he was aware that several of the organizations supported by the IRW in Judea, Samaria and Gaza were indeed identified with Hamas. By agreement, Ali was released today (Monday), 29 May 2006, with restrictions on his movements. He will be deported from Israel in the coming days and will be barred from returning.

The foregoing attests to the involvement of international funds and NGO's in transferring goods and funds to organizations identified with Hamas, which have been outlawed in the State of Israel. Israel is tightening its supervision over the activities of such organizations.

Charity denies link to terror group

Jun 1 2006

http://icbirmingham.icnetwork.co.uk/0100news/0100localnews/tm_objectid=17159441&method=full&siteid=50002&headline=charity-denies-link-to-terror-group-name_page.html

A Birmingham-based charity yesterday denied being a supporter of a militant Palestinian organisation after one of its workers was held for three weeks in a top-security jail in Israel.

Ayaz Ali, from Bradford, was working for Islamic Relief Worldwide in Gaza when he was arrested on May 9.

Israeli police say he was detained on suspicion of aiding the militant group Hamas, which they class as a terrorist organisation. Security forces say they suspected Islamic Relief Worldwide of supporting the organisation and of transferring funds to some of its various institutions.

But a judge ordered that 36-year-old Mr Ali, who was being held at the maximum-security Ashkelon Prison, be released without charge on Monday and deported back to the UK. He returned on Tuesday.

A statement issued by the charity vigorously denied any links to Hamas.

-----------------

MIM: As to be expected the offices of Islamic Relief issue a denial of any terrorist involvement and add insult to injury by quoting their founder Hany Al Banna who has family ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, of which Hamas is a continuation.

An Islamic Relief worker who was released from an Israeli prison without charge has been deported indefinitely from Israel.

Ayaz Ali, 36, from UK-based Islamic Relief Worldwide, was arrested by the Israeli security services on Tuesday May 9, 2006 and held for three weeks. He was detained and interrogated at Israel's top-security Ashkelon prison before being released yesterday without charge.

An Israeli military judge ruled that there was no evidence against Mr Ali or Islamic Relief. However despite this, the Israeli Prime Minister's office last night issued a statement accusing Islamic Relief of providing "support to and assistance to Hamas's infrastructure." It also accuses Mr Ali of transferring "funds and assistance to various Hamas institutions."

The allegations against Islamic Relief and Ayaz Ali are entirely unfounded and Islamic Relief will be making representations to the Israeli authorities refuting these claims.

Mr Ali has worked with Islamic Relief for five years and was appointed Programme Manager for its humanitarian projects in Gaza in December 2005. His work is solely humanitarian and neither he nor Islamic Relief is involved in any political or politically-motivated activities in the Palestinian Territories.

Islamic Relief does not transfer funds to any organisation in the Palestinian Territories. All its financial transactions are externally audited and also go through rigorous checks both internally and externally by the UK Charities Commission and agencies such as the European Commission who fund Islamic Relief's work in the Palestinian Territories.

Mr Ali arrived in the UK this morning. He said: "There is not a grain of truth in anything that Islamic Relief or I have been accused of by the Israeli authorities. I was interrogated for 20 days and every time I made it clear to them that we do not have any political links and are only interested in humanitarian work. In the end they found no evidence to support their claims and were forced to let me go."

Islamic Relief President Dr Hany El Banna, OBE said: "Islamic Relief has been working in the Palestinian Territories since 1994, providing humanitarian aid to vulnerable people. Any aid agency working in the region, particularly one with 'Islamic' in its title, undergoes regular scrutiny. We have been accused and cleared every time and will continue to do our duty to humanity."

Muslims, Mormons work together to rush aid to Indonesia quake victims

SALT LAKE CITY - Islamic Relief Worldwide and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are working together to provide urgently needed medical supplies to victims of the devastating earthquake that struck Indonesia on Saturday.

More than eight semi-truckloads of critical medical items from the Church's welfare and humanitarian storehouses in Salt Lake City were flown to Indonesia in a 747 cargo jet provided by Islamic Relief Worldwide. The plane left Salt Lake City International Airport on Tuesday evening and is expected to arrive in Indonesia by late Wednesday.

This rapid-response shipment includes critically needed supplies to care for the thousands injured in Saturday's disaster: first-aid supplies, materials for making casts to set broken arms and legs, walkers, canes, crutches, warm-weather clothing for hospital patients and hygiene kits.

Generous donations to the Church's humanitarian fund combined with volunteer labor from members and friends of the Church make possible the ongoing warehousing of disaster relief supplies. Having needed materials readily at-hand enables the Church to respond quickly to relieve suffering among the most needy during crisis situations.

Those interested in donating to the emergency response relief effort of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints can go to www.ldsphilanthropies.com.

Donations may also be mailed to:

MIM: Another major source of humanitarian terrorist funding was the Pakistani earthquake efforts - one example is that of ICNA, The Islamic Circle of North America which has been tied to Al Qaeda. The former President of ICNA, Zulfiqar Ali Shah was appointed the South Asian Affairs coordinator of a the 'Kind Hearts' charity which pretended to aid earthquake victims. Kind Hearts was closed down last month by the US Treasury because of terrorism funding.

Predictably ICNA has worked with Islamic Relief Worldwide .

ICNA Reliefs Earthquake Fundraising Accomplishments
Asalamualikum,

I just wanted to let everyone know that ICNA Relief and ICNA (http://www.icna.org - http://www.reliefonline.org) have collected $850,000 in less than a week. Our Short term goal is $1 Million and long term is $10 Million. If there are any doctors who want to go to Pakistan and volunteer (to do emergency surgeries etc) we are taking care of that. We are collecting medical supplies etc. If you know doctors who want to get involved you can point them to us. We have field reports and pictures available on our website. We are asking all sorts of organizations and individuals no matter how big or small to help fundraise. If you have a masjid which is raising money and doesn't know how to get it to pakistan you can refer them to us. If your MSA wants to do something and needs help in providing information and resources we can help.

Subhanallah we thought we were swamped with working for the victims of Katrina, and the Tsunami before that and this situation with the earthquake is truly devastating

We put a video up about the victims of Katrina -you can see it here: http://ramadan.icnait.com (scroll to the bottom)

MIM: In 2003 the head and founder of Islamic Relief Hany Al Banna visited Sheik Achmed Deedat in Durban. Deedat ran the International Center for Islamic Propagation and received money directly from Osama Bin Laden and his family. Deedat boasted of having met Osama Bin Laden several times. The building in which the ICIP was housed was named the Bin Laden Centre. The name was changed after 9/11. Al Banna's visit to Deedat and 'fundraising' in Durban makes a mockery of the organisations denials that they received $50,000 dollars from Al Qaeda via their London office . Al Banna"s visit to Deedat shows that Islamic Relief very likely received funding from Bin Laden via ICPI while in South Africa .

Healing Without Prejudice
Thursday 21st May 2003

Dr Hany El Banna, President of Islamic Relief, was invited to speak at a convention held by the Islamic Medical Association of South Africa (IMASA) in Johannesburg on the 26th to 29th April 2003.

This year's conference focused on the theme of ‘Islamic Rehabilitation and Relief'. Representatives from all over the world came together to discuss their approach to medical relief work.

As guest of honour, Dr Hany opened the IMASA convention by addressing the role of the humanitarian worker. Speaking about the duty of each and every person to help the less fortunate, he stressed that "the priority of our service should go to the poor, the homeless, the unattended sick, and others neglected by society." He also highlighted the importance of actively involving as many people as possible in raising awareness of social concerns.

A series of presentations then followed. A hushed silence fell over the room as slide images of shocking injuries, violence and agony crossed the screen. Iraq, Bosnia, Afghanistan…crises which have flooded the world's news pressed their undistorted reality upon the audience, moving some people to tears.

The dangers of medical relief work in war-torn areas were brought home when it was announced that IMASA's other guest of honour, Dr Jemilah Mahmood, President of Mercy Malaysia, was unable to attend the conference after she and a fellow doctor received bullet injuries in Iraq.

While in Durban, Dr Hany had the honour of visiting the eminent Sheikh Ahmed Deedat. On behalf of Islamic Relief, Dr Hany presented Sheikh Deedat with a beautiful piece of Islamic art as a token of appreciation for his work and the inspiration he has given to Muslims across the world.

Dr Hany also spoke at the IMA Batul Nur fundraising dinner, as well as giving presentations to students and professionals in Port Shepstone and Pitermertizburg. With every group he addressed, his message was a call for unity and international cooperation in a time of global conflict. Race, colour and religion need not be divisive, he reminded the audience – the universe was created "for us all to live in, and to push forward the wheel of development and prosperity for the sake of humanity as a whole."
