July 14, 2015

ISNA President Speaks At Dallas City Hall Iftar (Plainfield, IN 07/07/15) Last night, the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) President Azhar Azeez spoke at an iftar event at Dallas City Hall.

The event was hosted by a committee of key community leaders including Akram Syed, Amir Ali Rupani, Mohamed Suleiman, Mohsin Mandavia, and Arman Rupani.

Azeez highlighted the experience and contributions of the American Muslim community: "The American Muslim experience is a very unique experience as we have many opportunities to grow, advance and thrive in pluralistic society and in the vibrant democracy of our great nation."

He continued to highlight the advances of American Muslims across all industries and fields including the armed forces. In closing, Azeez shared a quote with the audience "America is not like a blanket-one piece of unbroken cloth, the same color, the same texture, the same size. America is more like a quilt-many patches, many pieces, many colors, many sizes, all woven and held together by a common thread."

In addition to ISNA president, the event featured Mayor of Dallas Mike Rawlings and Mayor of Plano Harry LaRosiliere along with Imam Sphendim Nadzaku of Dallas Central Mosque and Imam Khalil Abdul Rashid of Islamic Association of Collin County.
