What is also noteworthy is that the 'fearless leader' of the Free Muslims Against Terror' changes his allegiances as often as personalities. In the speech he made in Spain, he referred to himself as the representative of the Free Muslims Coalition Against Terrorism, and implied that the FMAT has now been expanded to include his cronies at the Saudi funded ADC. The ADC legal advisor ( a post Nawash once held) was also present at the event.
Political opportunist and Muslim moderate fraud Kamal Nawash has insinuated himself himself with White House officials, who seemed not to have noticed that Nawash's uber hyped' Million Muslim March Against Terror 'was a mere 999,990 short of the predicted number of moderate Muslims, who were apparently impervious to Nawash's charisma.
Nawash's sychophants have tried to spin the failure of the rally as ' a beginning', but the dismal showing proved that moderate Muslims are as much of a chimera as Nawash's own claims to moderation. Nawash's recent appearence at the Wahhabist funded ADC banquet, and reported continued attendence at the Wahhabist Dar Al Hijrah mosque, (which was also host to some of the 9/11 hijackers), gives his and the FMAT's "I am so sorry" 9/11 public apology gambit, which Nawash proudly recounted was the first of it's kind, crowing that it had brought 1,000's of letters from Christians saying 'they were moved to tears" (which makes one wonder why they were not published on the FMAT website.) The litany of "We are so sorry" has the air of a ghoulish SNL parody and exuded all the passion and sincerity of a laundry list...

On March 8th, Nawash went with a U.S. delegation appointed by Condoleeza Rice to the OCSE Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe conference in Madrid, which included seminars on Islamophobia ,anti semitism, and intolerance, and a meeting with the Spanish King, Not to be outdone by European royalty Nawash crowned himself the leader of 9 million Muslim and Arabs in America. Nawash also paid tribute to his Wahhabist funded friends at the ADC who were also represented at the event, and lauded the AAI the Muslim Public Affairs Committee for their 'outreach efforts to law enforcement' . Nawash neglected to thank Prince Al Saud bin Talal for funding the ADC's new building and his promised funding for CAIR, AAI and MPAC. He also took a swipe at the Bush administration who was footing the bill for his trip and declared that they had "made some mistakes" adding condescendingly that "most of those had been corrected' ,while cynically portraying the Islamist infilitration into law enforcement and politics as a sign of Muslim 'devotion' to the United States.
Now Nawash, in his megalomania, has declared himself the new' Messiah of Muslim Moderation' and crowned himself the "Prince of Peace" over' 9 Arab and Muslims in America ' during a speech in Spain . Nawash, who was proud of being called the Muslim Martin Luther, and told an interviewer that people think "he was sent by God". An article on the FMAT website portrayed Nawash as the selfless saviour of humanity who; "knew his political career was over" on 9/11 but "it didn't matter ..." and went on to describe Nawash's Islamist epiphany thus: "His vision on how he would respond came to him during his required haj, or holy pilgrimage to Mecca in 2003." http://www.freemuslims.org/news/article.php?article=691. In reality Nawash's first reaction to 9/11 was that if it involved Muslims - his political aspirations would be over. Nawash's run for Senate was indeed a debacle which explains why he has tried to resurrect himself in the personalities of Martin Luther/ Messiah/ and moderate Muslim guru.
Nawash's megalomania is only trumped by his capacity for dissembling, (tarqiyya) . His outlandish claim of 9 million Muslims exceeds even the phony stats of CAIR and the now defunct AMC whose leader Abdulrahman Alamoudi, now jailed for 23 years on terrorism charges was defended by his then lawyer Nawash. Nawash has subsequently lied and denied being Alamoudi's lawyer,( which affadavits prove otherwise) and portrayed his client as a "moderate Muslim who loves America'. Indeed Nawash's description of Alamoudi has turned out to be a prime example of 'it takes one to know one'. Now that Nawash has been welcomed back by his Wahhabist funded AMC cronies, as the Islamist prodigal son - one can only surmise that some of Prince Al Saud's largesse is finding it's way to the FMAT.
MIM: A recent puff piece about Kamal Nawash which was reprinted on the FMAT website which recounted that when 9/11 happened the thought of his political career going down the tubes was the first thing that crossed his mind.
"...It was a bright, clear morning in September in Virginia as Kamal Nawash undertook his morning rituals of taking a shower and enjoying his morning tea. He turned on his television to find that there was a large fire at the World Trade Center in New York. His sister, who was living with Kamal at the time screamed "Oh My God! A plane crashed into the building!" It wasn't long before his own building, two miles from the Pentagon, began to shake. As you all know, one of the four hijacked airplanes crashed into the Pentagon. He sat down in disbelief and held his head as the chaos enveloped not only him, but a nation.
Mr. Nawash was running for a seat in the Virginia House of Representatives at the time. As the reports trickled in that the hijackers were Islamic extremists, he knew in his heart that his political career was over but that didn't matter to Kamal..."

Indeed despite their public squabbles Nawash and Ibish are now becoming even closer through the AAI (where Ibish is a fellow ) and the ADC (which Ibish directed until last year).The ADC seems to be 'carrying up the rear' behind Nawash who is opening the door with his FMAT moderate Muslim 'schtick'. The recent inclusion of the ADC on a US government sponsored trip and Nawash's reported 'warm reception' at the ADC convention shows that they appear to have reestablished contact for political and pragmatic reasons. The Saudi largesse being extended to the ADC and the AAI, and MPAC may have oiled the path to reconciliation and cooperation between Nawash and his old cronies from the ADC. Any pretense Nawash has about moderation is belied by his contact with the ADC and their Saudi handlers.

Session 4: Fighting Intolerance and Discrimination against Muslims:
Facilitating Integration and Respecting Cultural Diversity
OSCE Conference on Anti-Semitism and on Other Forms of Intolerance June 8-9 in Cordoba, Spain
• Thank you, Mr. Moderator.
• My name is Kamal Nawash and as the president of the Free Muslim Coalition Against Terrorism, I am here representing the United States of America and more than six million American Muslims who are proud to call the United States home. I also represent three million Arab Americans, many of whom are Christian. The reason I mention Arab Christians is that they often are perceived as Muslims and often experience the same biases that Muslims face. Thus, the following comments about Muslims generally also apply to Christian Arabs as well.
• Like many Muslims around the world, American Muslims watched in horror as criminals attacked our beloved country on September 11, 2001. American Muslims were disgusted to learn that one of the worst crimes in the history of the United States was committed by criminals who claimed that their actions were somehow justified by the Muslim faith.
• On 9-11, American Muslims felt enormous grief and sadness for having to witness a symbol of our nation's freedom and strength being destroyed by a fire that was set by criminals who claimed to be Muslims. Most American Muslims vowed never to forget that day and the sight of innocent people jumping from two of the tallest buildings in the world hoping that they might survive certain death by fire.
• In addition to the enormous sadness we felt on 9-11, American Muslims also felt anxiety and apprehension at the thought that non-Muslim Americans might blame us for that horrible crime. Our sadness quickly turned into fear of possible "retaliation" against innocent Muslims -- who, in fact, condemned the actions of the terrorists.
• However, American Muslims quickly learned that our fear and apprehension were exaggerated. Immediately after 9-11, President George Bush took time from managing the worst crisis that any president can experience and visited a mosque to remind American Muslims and non-Muslims alike that we are all Americans. This demonstrated that even a tragedy like 9-11 will not shake the foundation on which America was founded. That foundation was built on religious freedom, tolerance, justice and a sense of fairness that is found in far too few places of the world. For those American Muslims who still felt fear and anxiety, our government reached out to them again by inviting an Imam to speak at a memorial for the victims of 9-11. Since then, President Bush has not passed up an opportunity to remind all Americans that Islam is both a great religion and a religion of peace.
• The proactive leadership of our government in reminding all Americans that Muslims are neither to be targeted nor blamed for the crimes of a few deranged criminals was very successful and influenced a nation during a time of grief. Immediately after 9-11, Americans of all backgrounds began reaching out to their Muslim neighbors by inviting them to churches and town hall meetings. Many non-Muslim women even went so far as to wear head scarves to show solidarity with American Muslim women and to remind all Americans to not cast blame on the innocent.
• The type of leadership exercised by the U.S. government immediately after 9-11 is a good example of how government action can foster tolerance and respect for all people, even under the most difficult of circumstances. Unfortunately, some American Muslims did suffer attacks and discrimination as a result of 9-11. Even our government made some mistakes, but most of those were later corrected. The point here is that the discrimination and other difficulties faced by American Muslims were minimized by President Bush's and the U.S. government's swift and intelligent actions to pre-empt and combat a potential backlash against the American Muslim community.
• As a consequence of our Government's outreach to the American Muslim community after 9-11, many American Muslims today feel more American than they ever felt before. American Muslims showed their appreciation and devotion to the United States by joining our military, joining various law enforcement agencies, establishing non-governmental organizations and doing all they could to make certain that the 9-11 terrorist acts would never be repeated again on U.S. soil. In fact, the founding of the Free Muslim Coalition Against Terrorism was a direct consequence of the 9-11 attacks. Our goal is to defeat and discredit the ideology that leads to extremism and support for terrorism.
• U.S. government agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice have continuously reached out to American Muslim and Arab organizations in order to build mutual understanding, and fight intolerance against Arabs and Muslims. American Muslim and Arab organizations have also initiated programs to assist our government. For example, the American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee and the Arab American Institute have organized numerous town hall meetings with law enforcement officials; the American Islamic Forum for Democracy and the Muslim Public Affairs Committee have initiated projects to reach out to American mosques and work with them to discredit intolerant and extremist rhetoric from within our community. These initiatives have substantially reduced intolerance against American Muslims and assisted the U.S. Government in developing a mutually beneficial working relationship with American Muslims and American Arabs.
• Unfortunately, the 9-11 attacks and the subsequent war on terror did not end the use of terror and mass murder in the name of Islam. Following 9-11, the world again witnessed mass murder of hundreds of train passengers here in Spain and other, smaller terrorist attacks. I am certain these evil acts caused many in Spain and throughout Europe and the OSCE region to be suspicious of their Muslim compatriots. While it may be human nature to react to crimes or tragic events by punishing those who are perceived to be members of the group who committed terrorist acts, it is always wrong to blame an entire group for the actions of individual criminals. It is also counter productive. The OSCE and participating States must continue to combat any retribution or discrimination stemming from such instances.
• The war against terrorism and, in particular, terrorism committed by Muslims is an ideological battle that cannot be won without the help of Muslims themselves. American Muslims are playing a crucial role in fighting the ideology that leads to terror. We urge European and Eurasian Muslims to join in that cause. If European governments are not proactive in eliminating bias and discrimination against European Muslims, the European Muslim community will become marginalized. Rather than focus their energies on helping Europe fight terror and intolerance, European Muslims will instead withdraw from society and Europe may lose an essential element in the war on terror. Moreover, the marginalization of European Muslims through bans on religious expression will substantially slow or even bring to a halt the process of integrating European Muslims into the fabric of Europe. For these reasons, we ask the OSCE and its participating States to do all they can to distinguish between the criminals who justify evil in the name of Islam and Muslims who want nothing more than to provide for their families and raise their children to be productive citizens. The OSCE and its member states must continue to play their vital role in promoting tolerance of Muslims and combating discrimination and abuses of Muslims.
• Finally, when it comes to anti-Semitism, it is not the exclusive responsibility of Jews to combat it. This is a shared responsibility and I urge my fellow Muslims to combat anti-Semitism wherever it occurs. Similarly, I urge Jews, Christians and all other persons of faith to be just as outraged at intolerance toward Muslims. When any intolerance occurs, we all should respond. Only if we work together can we hope to eliminate intolerance against all people.

Washington -- A member of the Saudi royal family, billionaire investor Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Alsaud, has told Arab Americans they are role models for the Arab world.
"You have proven that Arabs can be successful, and not only that, to be ahead of other ethnic groups," the businessman-philanthropist said, ticking off statistics from the latest U.S. census that showed Arab Americans exceeding the U.S. average in such areas as percentage of college degrees and of professional and managerial positions, median family income and home ownership.
"We can look at you here in the United States and see our role model," Alwaleed declared. "If you can do it in the United States, we should be able to do it in the Arab world."
Alwaleed served as keynote speaker at the 25th anniversary gala held during the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) annual convention here May 27-29.
He called for a transfer of "power and knowledge from here to there" that would bring the Arab countries reforms in government, law, finance and education. Above all, he said, "We have to mention the notion of civil society . civil society in the Arab region is very primitive."
Alwaleed detailed some of the serious problems he sees in Arab society.
"Many of the so-called institutions of higher learning are in reality no more than adult day care centers," high unemployment rates pose a threat to stability and women are "marginalized," he said.
Despite all these problems, he said, "there is, of course, nothing in Islam or Arab culture that predisposes us to permanent failure. My purpose is to affirm that we have the capability to escape from our current malaise."
But, Alwaleed stressed, making the needed changes will require the help and support of the West, including the United States -- and especially of Arab Americans who can be instrumental in building bridges between the two societies.
"Our relations with the American people cannot be allowed to fluctuate in tandem with the rise and fall of the price of oil," he said.
Much of Alwaleed's talk focused on the same two issues that dominated the three-day convention: the U.S. public's perception of Arabs and Muslims, and the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians.
He decried what he saw as the destructive impact of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, on the U.S. public's attitude toward Arabs, including Arab Americans.
Saudi Arabia, has been "the primary target of this onslaught," although the terrorists who came from there do not in any way represent the bulk of the Saudi people, he said. But Alwaleed said he is pleased that "a moderation of attitudes can now be discerned."
"What unites us is infinitely greater than those elements that divide us," he said.
On the Palestinian issue, however, Alwaleed complained that "the United States has not been fair and objective with the Palestinian cause."
Arabs, and more specifically Arab Americans, cannot rest until a state of Palestine has been established, the prince said. "Let us hope that a resolution to the Palestinian issue will soon be found and that a Palestinian state will emerge before long," he declared.

Alwaleed received ADC's Global Achievement Award, citing him for "success in the global business community and outstanding humanitarian and philanthropic work for those in need throughout the world."
The citation said that Alwaleed -- not a member of the government -- has been a strong supporter of causes including women's rights and empowerment.
ADC quickly got its own indication of his philanthropic bent, especially toward Arab causes.
Former U.S. Senator James Abourezk, ADC's Arab-American founder, had told the gathering that $700,000 had been raised toward purchasing a $3.3 million headquarters building in Washington.
Hearing this, Alwaleed threw an unexpected line into the opening part of his speech: "James, you'll get the $2.6 million next week," he said to sustained audience applause.
The ADC is a civil rights organization committed to defending the rights of people of Arab descent and promoting their cultural heritage. Since its founding in 1980, it has become the nation's largest Arab-American civil rights organization.
The 2005 convention drew more than 1,000 participants from around the country.
Among those on the dais for the silver anniversary gala were the ambassadors of Kuwait, Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and the League of Arab States, and other high-ranking diplomats from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Libya.
Abourezk read a congratulatory letter from former President Jimmy Carter and former New Hampshire Governor John Sununu read one from former President George H.W. Bush, whom he had served as White House chief of staff.
Also participating was H. Delano Roosevelt, grandson of the late President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. It was a 1945 meeting aboard the USS Quincy between the president and King Abdul Aziz, Alwaleed's grandfather and founder of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, that launched the close relationship between the two nations.
H. Delano Roosevelt pledged to work with Alwaleed toward "a greater understanding between grassroots Americans" and Saudis.
Adapting his grandfather's famous words to the post-September 11 situation of fear and mistrust, Roosevelt said, "If there was ever a time where we needed to reinvigorate the concept of 'freedom from fear,' now is the time."
The issue of Palestine surfaced frequently during the conference, once in a talk by former Senator George McGovern, the Democratic presidential candidate in 1972.
McGovern deemed United Nations Resolution 242 to offer "still the most logical and fair-minded solution of the so-called Arab-Israeli conflict."
The U.N. resolution, adopted by the Security Council in November 1967, calls on all parties to work toward "a just and lasting peace in the Middle East." It contemplates withdrawal of Israeli armed forces from territories occupied earlier that year, coupled with the Arab parties' recognition of Israel's "right to live in peace within secure and recognized boundaries free from threats or acts of force."

Bush, Jr. for meeting with group that has expressed "pride" and "respect" for organizations that th State Department regards as terrorists and which have murdered hundreds of Americans. That group is the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committ (ADC). In a letter to all of the announced and presumed candidates for th Republican and Democratic presidential nominations, ZOA National President Morton A. Klein wrot "No presidential candidate should meet with, and thereby grant legitimacy to, any organization that has expressed sympathy for groups on the U.S. government's own list of terrorists, such as Hezbollah and Hamas, which have murdered hundreds of Americans and Israelis. Giving legitimacy to those who sympathize with terrorist groups is not the way to fight terror. "The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee has expressed sympathy for Hezbollah and Hamas and therefore no candidate should meet with its representatives until they publicly and explicitly repudiat Hezbollah and Hamas. We assume that Governor Bush's staff either did not know, or failed to alert him, as to the true pro-terrorist nature of th ADC, and we hope now that he has learned of ADC's actual positions, that h will publicly call on them to denounce Hezbollah and Hamas." The ZOA noted that Hezbollah was responsible for the mass-murder of 283 U.S. Marines in Lebanon in 1983, and Hamas has murdered 12 American citizens in Israel since 1993. The ADC's leaders have said that they ar "proud" of Hezbollah as a "legitimate defense organization" and hav praised Hamas as "very respectable" and "not a violent organization"; have accused the United States of committing "genocide" against Iraq; have made openly anti-Semitic remarks, such as claiming that "Jews run Hollywood"; have accused then-Prime Minister Shimon Peres of "killing and maiming Lebanese civilians for the satisfaction of the Israeli public which seems to be pleased only at the sight of Arab blood being spilled"; and have accused Israel of "racism," "apartheid," and "ethnic cleansing." This topic is as thorny as previous ones hav been, and many people have experienced great difficulty in trying to understand it. I pray to Allah (SWT) that this discussion will help loosen some of the intellectual rust that has accumulated over the years in many peoples' minds. The interminable negative propaganda that people ar bombarded with on a daily basis serves to nurture feelings of animosity and disbelief towards the Shia; additionally, it may promote the explicit denial of proven facts and truths. Nonetheless, you owe it to yourself to search for the truth; and, indeed, Allah (SWT) has commanded that you do. As such, it is your prerogative to believe or reject everything that th Shia claim; but my plea is that the next time you hear a discussion about the Shia in your Mosque, or any place else, please remember my posts, and question the person who is discussing the topic. Only then, will you see my point, In Sha' Allah (SWT). I intend to demonstrate and prove that the concept of "al-Taqiyya" is an integral part of Islam, and that it is NOT a Shi'ite concoction. As usual, the two perspectives, the Sunnis and the Shia, will be presented to maintain a level of fairness and integrity in the reporting of thi topic. ============ Introduction ============ The word "al-Taqiyya" literally means: "Concealing or disguising one' beliefs, convictions, ideas, feelings, opinions, and/or strategies at time of eminent danger, whether now or later in time, to save oneself from physical and/or mental injury." A one-word translation would b "Dissimulation." The above definition must be elaborated upon before any undertaking of thi topic is to ensue. Although correct, the definition suffers from an apparent generalization, and lacks some fundamental details that should b construed First, the CONCEALMENT of one's beliefs does NOT necessitate an ABANDONMENT of these beliefs. The distinction between "concealment" and "abandonment" MUST be noted here. Second, there are numerous exceptions to the above definition, and they MUST be judged according to the situation that one is placed in. As such, one should NOT make a narrow-minded generalization that encompasses all situations, thereby failing to fully absorb the spirit of the definition. Third, the word "beliefs" and/or "convictions" does NOT necessarily mean "religious" beliefs and/or convictions. With the above in mind, it becomes evident that a better, and more accurat definition of "al-Taqiyya" is "diplomacy." The true spirit of "al- Taqiyya" is better embodied in the single word "diplomacy" because it encompasses a comprehensive spectrum of behaviors that serve to further th vested interests of all parties involved. ================================== al-Taqiyya According to the Sunni ================================== Some Sunnis assert that al-Taqiyya is an act of pure hypocrisy that serv to conceal the truth and reveal that which is the exact opposite (of th truth). Furthermore, according to those Sunnis, al-Taqiyya constitut lack of faith and trust in Allah (SWT) because the person who conceals hi beliefs to spare himself from eminent danger is fearful of humans, when, in fact, he should be fearful of Allah (SWT) only. As such, this person i coward. ====================================== Sunni Sources in Support of al-Taqiyy ====================================== The following exposition will Insha Allah demonstrate the existen of al-Taqiyya in the Quran, Hadith, the Prophet's (PBUH&HF) custom, and th companions' custom. As usual, Sunni books will be used to further th argument. This is in keeping with the commitment to reveal the truth by showing that the Sunnis reject the Shia's arguments, while THEIR OWN book are replete (full) with the SAME ideologies that the Shia uphold! Although some Wahhabis staunchly argue their aforementioned statements, and aggressively defame the Shia and refute their doctrines, they have failed to explain the validity of their argument vis-a-vis the existence of th SAME doctrines in their own books, as has been demonstrated in ALL the past posts about the Shia. Those who think that they are the true protectors of the custom of the Prophet (PBUH&HF) and the only guardians of the Islami Faith, how can they explain their own rejection of that which they ar supposed to protect? Rejecting al-Taqiyya is rejecting the Quran, as will be shown shortly. Let's Begin... Reference 1 ----------- Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti in his book, "al-Durr al-Manthoor Fi al-Tafsir al- Ma'athoor," narrates Ibn Abbas', the MOST renowned and trusted narrator of tradition in the sight of the Sunnis, opinion regarding al-Taqiyya in th Quranic verse: "Let not the believers take for friends or helper unbelievers rather than believers: if any do that, (they) shall have no relation left with Allah except by way of precaution ("tat-taqooh"), that ye may guard yourselves ("tooqatan") from them....[3:28]" that Ibn Abb said "al-Taqiyya is with the tongue only; he who has been COERCED into saying that which angers Allah (SWT), and his heart is comfortabl (i.e., his TRUE faith has NOT been shaken.), then (saying that which he has been coerced to say) will NOT harm him (at all); (because) al- Taqiyya is with the tongue only, (NOT the heart)." NOTE: The two words "tat-taqooh" and "tooqatan," as mentioned in the Arabi Quran, are BOTH from the same root of "al-Taqiyya." NOTE ALSO: The "heart" as referred to above and in later occurrences refer to the center of faith in an individual's existence. It is mentioned many times in the Quran. Reference 2 ----------- Ibn Abbas also commented on the above verse, as narrated in Sunan al- Bayhaqi and Mustadrak al-Hakim, by saying "al-Taqiyya is the uttering of the tongue, while the heart i comfortable with faith." NOTE: The meaning is that the tongue is permitted to utter anything in time of need, as long as the heart is not affected; and one is still comfortable with faith. Reference 3 ----------- Abu Bakr al-Razi in his book, "Ahkam al-Quran," v2, p10, has explained the aforementioned verse "...except by way of precaution ("tat-taqooh"), that ye may guard yourselves ("tooqatan") from them....[3:28]" by affirming that al-Taqiyya should be used when one is afraid for life and/or limb. In addition, he has narrated that Qutadah said with regards to the abov ver "It is permissible to speak words of unbelief when al-Taqiyya i mandatory." Reference 4 ----------- It has been narrated by Abd al-Razak, Ibn Sa'd, Ibn Jarir, Ibn Abi Hatim, Ibn Mardawayh, al-Bayhaqi in his book "al- Dala-il," and it was corrected by al-Hakim in his book "al- Mustadrak" that "The nonbelievers arrested `Ammar Ibn Yasir (RA) and (tortured him until) he (RA) uttered foul words about the Prophet (PBUH&HF), and praised their gods (idols); and when they released him (RA), he (RA) went straight to the Prophet (PBUH&HF). The Prophet (PBUH&HF) said "Is there something on your mind?" `Ammar Ibn Yasir (RA) said: "Bad (news)! They would not release me until I defamed you (PBUH&HF) and praised their gods!" The Prophet (PBUH&HF) said: "How do you find your heart to be?" `Ammar (RA) answered: "Comfortable with faith." So the Prophet (PBUH&HF) said: "Then if they come back for you, then do the same thing all over again." Allah (SWT) at that moment revealed the verse: "....except under compulsion, his heart remaining firm in faith...[16:106]" NOTE: The full verse that was quoted partially as part of the tradition above, is: "Any one who, after accepting Faith in Allah, utters unbelief, EXCEPT UNDER COMPULSION, his heart remaining firm in faith -- but such open their breast to unbelief, -- on them is Wrath from Allah, and their will be a dreadful Chastisement [16:106]." (Emphasis Mine) Reference 5 ----------- It is narrated in Sunan al-Bayhaqi that Ibn Abbas explained the above ver "Any one who, after accepting Faith in Allah, utters unbelief....[16:106]" by saying "The meaning that Allah (SWT) is conveying is that he who utter unbelief after having believed, shall deserve the Wrath of Allah (SWT) and a terrible punishment. However, those who have been coerced, and as such uttered with their tongues that which their hearts did not confirm to escape persecution, have nothing to fear; for Allah (SWT) holds His (SWT) servants responsible for that which their hearts hav ratified." Reference 6 ----------- Another explanation of the above verse is provided by Jalal al-Din al- Suyuti in his book, "al-Durr al-Manthoor Fi al- Tafsir al-Ma-athoor," vol. 2, p178; he say "Ibn Abi Shaybah, Ibn Jarir, Ibn Munzir, and Ibn Abi Hatim narrated on the authority of Mujtahid (a man's name) that this verse w revealed in relation to the following event: A group of people from Mecca accepted Islam and professed their belief; as a result, th companions in Medina wrote to them requesting that they emigrat to Medina; for if they don't do so, they shall not be considered as those who are among the believers. In compliance, the group left Mecca, but were soon ambushed by the nonbelievers (Quraish) befor reaching their destination; they were coerced into disbelief, and they professed it. As a result, the verse "...except under compulsion, hi heart remaining firm in faith [16:106]..." was revealed." Reference 7 ----------- Ibn Sa'd in his book, "al-Tabaqat al-Kubra," narrates on the authority of Ibn Sirin that The Prophet (PBUH&HF) saw `Ammar Ibn Yasir (RA) crying, so h (PBUH&HF) wiped off his (RA) tears, and said: "The nonbeliever arrested you and immersed you in water until you said such and such (i.e., bad-mouthing the Prophet (PBUH&HF) and praising the pagan god to escape persecution); if they come back, then say it again." Reference 8 ----------- It is narrated in al-Sirah al-Halabiyyah, v3, p61, that After the conquest of the city of Khaybar by the Muslims, the Prophet (PBUH&HF) was approached by Hajaj Ibn `Aalat and told: "O Prophet of Allah: I have in Mecca some excess wealth and some relatives, and I would like to have them back; am I excused if I bad-mouth you (to escape persecution)?" The Prophet (PBUH&HF) excused him and said "Say whatever you have to say." Reference 9 ----------- It is narrated by al-Ghazzali in his book, "Ihya `Uloom al-Din," that Safeguarding of a Muslim's life is a mandatory obligation that should be observed; and that LYING is permissible when the shedding of Muslim's blood is at stake. Reference 10 ------------ Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti in his book, "al-Ashbah Wa al-Naza'ir," affirm that "it is acceptable (for a Muslim) to eat the meat of a dead animal at time of great hunger (starvation to the extent that the stomach i devoid of all food); and to loosen a bite of food (for fear of choking to death) by alcohol; and to utter words of unbelief; and if one i living in an environment where evil and corruption are the pervasiv norm, and permissible things (Halal) are the exception and a rarity, then one can utilize whatever is available to fulfill his needs." NOTE: The reference to the consumption of a dead animal is meant to illustrate that EVEN forbidden things become permissible in a time of need. Reference 11 ------------ Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti in his book, "al-Durr al-Manthoor Fi al-Tafsir al- Ma'athoor," v2, p176, narrates that Abd Ibn Hameed, on the authority of al-Hassan, said: "al-Taqiyya i permissible until the Day of Judgment." ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Reference 12 ------------ Narrated in Sahih al-Bukhari, v7, p102, that Abu al-Darda' said "(Verily) we smile for some people, while our hearts curse (those sam people)." Reference 13 ------------ Narrated in Sahih al-Bukhari, v7, p81, that the Prophet (PBUH&HF) said "O `Aisha, the worst of people in the sight of Allah (SWT) are tho that are avoided by others due to their extreme impudence." NOTE: The meaning here is that one is permitted to use diplomacy to get along with people. The above tradition was narrated when a person sought permission to see the Holy Prophet (PBUH&HF) and prior to his asking permission the Prophet (PBUH&HF) said that he was not a good man, but still I shall see him. The Prophet talked to the person with utmost respect, upon which Aisha inquired as to why did the Prophet (PBUH&HF) talk to the person with respect despite his character, upon which the above reply w rendered. Reference 14 ------------ Narrated in Sahih Muslim (English version), Chapter MLXXVII, v4, p1373, Tradition #6303 Humaid b. 'Abd al-Rahman b. 'Auf reported that his mother Umm Kulthum daughter of 'Uqba b. Abu Mu'ait, and she was one amongst the first emigrants who pledged allegiance to Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him), as saying that she heard Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: A liar is not one who tries to bring reconciliation amongst people and speaks good (in order to avert dispute), or h conveys good. Ibn Shihab said he did not hear that exemption w granted in anything what the people speak as lie but in thr in battle, for bringing reconciliation amongst persons and th narration of the words of the husband to wife, and the narration of the words of a wife to her husband (in a twisted form in order to bring reconciliation between them). The (Sunni) commentator of this volume of Sahih Muslim, Abdul Hamid Siddiqi, provides the following commentary Telling of a lie is a grave sin but a Muslim is permitted to tell lie in some exceptional cases, and this permission is given especially on three occasions: in case of battle for bringing reconciliation amongst the hostile Muslims and for bringing reconciliation between the husband and the wife. On the analogy [Qiyas] of these thr ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ cases, the scholars of Hadith have pointed out some other exemption ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ for saving the life and honor of innocent person from th ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ highhandedness of tyrants and oppressors if one finds no other way to ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ save them. ^^^^^^^^^ Notice that neither the above tradition nor the commentary are concerned with dealing with non-Muslims only.
