Israeli Special Operations Scuttles Iranian Plot To Supply Gaza With Long Range Missiles

March 5, 2014

March 5, 2014 – San Francisco, CA – PipeLineNews.org – Special units of the IDF have intercepted a shipment of Syrian manufactured M-302 rockets in the Red Sea which were destined for Gaza.

"…the special operation, directly overseen by IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz, took place in the Red Sea 1500 kilometers away from Israeli shores…" [source, Yaakov Lappin, Israel Navy intercepts Gaza-bound Iranian rocket ship near Port Sudan , J Post]

The country's security experts say they have proof that the operation was directed by Iran which had engaged in an elaborate plot to hide the weapons, transporting them via, ground, sea and air intending the elaborate shuffle would fool IDF Intel.

The ordnance had been stored in Syria until commandeered by Iran which then, "flew the rockets to an Iranian air field, trucked them to a sea port, and shipped them to Iraq, where they were hidden in cement sacs. The ship then set sail from Iraq to Port Sudan, near the Sudanese-Eritrean border, on a journey expected to last some ten days…"

Of major concern is that these missiles have a range far in excess of those typically deployed by Gaza's jihadists, being able to travel nearly 200 kilometers which could put major Israeli population centers at risk.
