Nationalist MKs Denounce Terror Attack, Demand End to Talks

The government must stop releasing terrorists, says MKs from the Likud and Bayit Yehudi following Psagot terror attack. By Elad Benari First Publish: 10/6/2013, 4:31 AM

MKs from the Likud and Bayit Yehudi parties strongly condemned on Saturday night the terror attack in which a nine-year-old girl was seriously wounded in the neck after being shot by one or more terrorists at Psagot, in the Binyamin region.

Housing Minister Uri Ariel (Bayit Yehudi) said the attack was a direct result of the renewed peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.

"We've gone back to the reality in which discussions with the Palestinians equal murderous terror attacks. This reality must not continue! I demand that the Prime Minister bring back for discussion the decision to release terrorists and allow the army to act firmly against the murderous terrorism that has raised its head," said Ariel.

Bayit Yehudi chairman Economy Minister Naftali Bennett said the attack is "a serious incident that joins a series of difficult and painful incidents. All of Israel prays for the wellbeing of the girl and for her full recovery."

MK Yoni Chetboun (Bayit Yehudi), who serves on the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, said that "the various shootings over the past month come down to one point - terrorism is raising its head. Yesterday it was soldiers being shot, today it is a girl. I demand that the Minister of Defense approve offensive military operations that will bring back the deterrence."

MK Nissan Slomiansky (Bayit Yehudi) said that the attack was further proof that continuing to talk with the PA out of weakness leads to increased terrorism.

"I call on the Prime Minister and on the Minister of Defense to enforce aggressive policies and stop releasing murderers. I wish the girl a speedy recovery," he said.

Deputy Transportation Minister Tzipi Hotovely (Likud) said, "The rise in Arab terrorism in Judea and Samaria requires Israel to stop the peace talks. Like previous attacks, the shooting in Psagot is the result of the continued incitement by the Palestinian Authority."

MK Ayelet Shaked (Bayit Yehydi) called on the government to stop releasing terrorists with blood on their hands .

"As the negotiating teams discuss peace over a glass of wine and baked goods, reality shows us something slightly different," said Shaked and added, "It's time we stop wasting precious time, put together plans that make sense and, first and foremost, stop releasing terrorists with blood on their hands."

Deputy Defense Minister Danny Danon (Likud) said, "Whoever harms a nine-year-old girl - his blood be on his own head. He who backs terrorists does not deserve to be called a partner for negotiations. We need to put an end to the duplicity of the Palestinian leadership which supports terrorism."

MKs: Psagot Attack Encouraged by PA MKs who gathered in Psagot on Sunday afternoon termed the attack on 9 year old Noam Glick an "attempted murder, by all definitions."

MKs who gathered in Psagot on Sunday afternoon termed the attack on 9 year old Noam Glick an "attempted murder, by all definitions." Glick was shot Saturday night in the neck at close range. The girl was badly injured, but is in good condition after surgery.

MKs and ministers who visited the town held a press conference discussing the attack Sunday. Deputy Foreign Minister Ze'ev Elkin said that he was "not surprised at what happened, in light of the events in Judea and Samaria in recent weeks," where there has been an uptick in rock and bomb attacks by Arabs against Israeli drivers.

The Palestinian Authority (PA), Elkin said, was responsible for the terror attacks, including Saturday night's shooting.

"Those who engage in incitement in the schools and name town squares after terrorists, and pays huge sums to the families of imprisoned terrorists," as the PA does, "should bot be surprised that such events take place."

Israel, said Elkin, must remain firm in negotiations going on now with the PA under American auspices.

"We will not compromise on anything when we are pressured and terrorized," he said.

Deputy Transportation Minister Tzipi Hotovely said that the shooting was very reminiscent of the attack on the Fogel family of Itamar in 2011, when two terrorists murdered five people in the family.

"We are in an intolerable situation," she said.

"We survived Yasser Arafat, but his heir Mahmoud Abbas is no better when it comes to supporting terror groups. We should tell the world that there will be no negotiations if terror continues."

Several leftist MKs are scheduled to meet with PA chief Abbas Monday, and Hotovely slammed them.

"This will damage the government, which is trying to fight terror," she said. "It damages our legitimate struggle to ensure safety for our citizens."

Deputy Minister Ofir Akounis also attacked the PA, which has not even condemned the attack.

"Abbas speaks of a Palestinian state ethnically cleansed of Jews," he said. "The first thing to do in response to this attack is to halt the release of terrorists," he added, referring to a group of terrorists the government is slated to release later this month.
